Chapter 99 - Ch.99

One Month Later... Raccoon City

"Welcome to tonight's news bulletin. I'm your beautiful host, Ms. Natasha. Tonight, I have thrilling news for the citizens of Raccoon City. After tireless, round-the-clock investigation and searching by our Raccoon City Police Department officers, the recent serial killings that have plagued our city have been completely resolved."

"The perpetrators, as brilliantly surmised by our Raccoon City Police Chief Brian Irons, were members of a foreign cult organization. They attempted to use these murders to sow fear and threaten our citizens into accepting their religious beliefs. But alas, their conspiracy ultimately failed. Under the investigation and containment efforts of our heroic Raccoon City officers, this cult organization was dealt a decisive blow and completely eradicated. Therefore, citizens of Raccoon City, tonight you can finally open your doors and enjoy a vibrant night out! Don't worry, don't fret; fully enjoy your nightlife. Raccoon City's brilliant officers are your best umbrella of protection!"

"...Meanwhile, there is more good news. The Umbrella Corporation's newly developed medicine has achieved huge success. It is gentle, and its speed in curing diseases is astonishing. Global sales are currently skyrocketing. Citizens who have not yet purchased the product, please buy with confidence. The Umbrella Corporation has even introduced a subsidy clause to alleviate any concerns about after-sales service. Well, that's all from your beautiful host, Ms. Natasha. Join us for the next news bulletin. Goodbye!"

The day's news was broadcasting on a large, fuzzy television. The blurry screen made the female news anchor's face look extremely distorted, like a monster wearing a human mask. The TV static was also quite obvious and messy.

Exasperated, a hand slowly reached out to the remote control and turned off the rickety television.

"..."

"The virus is about to break out, isn't it? In the end, we couldn't expose them. It seems the Umbrella Corporation's influence is still too great. They managed to suppress the news so that not a single word could leak out of Raccoon City."

A hoarse voice murmured faintly.

Leaning back in a chair in front of the TV was a lazy man—an Asian with black hair, dark eyes, and slightly pale skin. He was wearing a black police cap and a blue uniform, yawning listlessly.

The man was Javier Li.

The uniform he wore was no longer the special S.T.A.R.S. uniform but an ordinary blue police uniform. His surroundings were not the police station, but a storeroom for weapons, parts, and various other items.

Yes, he had been demoted.

The S.T.A.R.S. team had been summarily disbanded by the piggish Police Chief Brian Irons. From now on, S.T.A.R.S. no longer existed in Raccoon City. Javier had been instantly demoted and assigned to guard the armory. This was both a good assignment and a bad one, as it was the best way for Irons to monitor him. Javier had no field duty rights; he had to stay in the warehouse during his shift and could not leave for half a step.

The Aftermath

The day they returned, Jill and Rebecca immediately reported Umbrella's atrocities to Chief Irons. Already bought off by Umbrella, Irons chose to conceal everything. He instantly dissolved S.T.A.R.S. and suspended Jill and Rebecca's badges, claiming they were mentally stressed. Their attempt to expose Umbrella was completely shattered and buried by Chief Irons, whose power in Raccoon City was absolute.

Javier was demoted and assigned to the warehouse.

Chris and Enrico resigned in anger and left Raccoon City to fight Umbrella elsewhere.

Rebecca was invited to the small town of Caliban Cove to attempt to expose Umbrella's conspiracy through other means.

Barry left Raccoon City to rescue his wife and daughter, who had been kidnapped by Wesker.

Jill was placed under house arrest in her apartment for one month.

Brad Vickers, the cowardly pilot, was spared the worst of the retribution.

Javier was currently alone and monitored, with no plan but to wait for the inevitable T-Virus outbreak.

Javier's New Abilities

Javier had earned a large number of points from clearing the Resident Evil 1 dungeon and completing side quests. He acquired three new skills:

Riding (B-Rank): Can skillfully ride and pilot common vehicles and mounts (cars, planes, horses, elephants, lions, etc.). He realized this could be conceptually powerful, potentially allowing him to ride creatures like Lickers or Tyrants if upgraded to its maximum rank of EX ("Ride All Things").

My OK Band-Aid: Applying a band-aid to a wound initiates healing and restores 2% of health after one minute. By applying enough of them, it effectively becomes a powerful Continuous Healing ability.

Ancient Martial Art - Bājíquán: Purchased to bolster his close-quarters combat ability, which he realized was crucial after facing Wesker.

Javier felt his new abilities prepared him for the chaos to come.
