Chapter 13 - Blackboard

(A diary found in an abandoned classroom, belonging to Haruto Sato, age 16.)

---

Day 1

I stayed late again today. Everyone laughs when I say I like empty classrooms, but it feels safer than home. Father will probably be drunk by now.

Something strange though—when I came back from washing my hands, there was a word written on the blackboard: "Stay."

I'm sure I erased it, but when I turned around, it was there again.

---

Day 2

She was there.

A girl, standing near the blackboard. Pale… almost see-through.

She didn't say anything, just looked at me with eyes that felt… heavy, like she had seen too much.

When I blinked, she was gone.

Maybe I'm just tired.

---

Day 4

I saw her again. This time, she smiled faintly and wrote something on the board.

"Do you see me?"

I nodded. My throat felt tight, but I managed to whisper back, "Yes."

Her smile looked sad.

---

Day 6

She stays longer now. We don't talk much. I just sit there, and she writes on the blackboard.

She asked my name today. I told her: Haruto.

She didn't give me hers.

---

Day 9

I think… she's lonely too.

When she's here, I don't feel invisible anymore.

I almost feel happy.

---

Day 12

She wrote: "Don't go home."

My chest tightened. I don't know why, but I listened. I stayed late, until the janitor chased me out.

When I finally went home, Father was asleep on the floor with a bottle in his hand.

If I had gone earlier… I don't know what would have happened.

---

Day 15

She touched my hand today.

It was cold. So cold, like winter.

But for the first time in years, someone touched me gently.

---

Day 19

Something is wrong.

She was angry tonight. Her face looked different. Shadows crawled across her eyes, and she wrote violently on the board until the chalk snapped.

"Why do you look like him?"

I don't know what she meant.

---

Day 22

I think I understand.

Her eyes, when she looks at me—there's hate, but also something else. Longing?

I feel both safe and doomed in her presence.

But still… I keep coming back.

---

Day 25

She whispered for the first time.

Her voice was broken, like glass.

She said, "Your blood will set me free."

I couldn't breathe.

---

Day 26

I don't want to write anymore.

But my hands keep moving, as if someone is guiding them.

The blackboard had one sentence written tonight, in strokes so deep the chalk cracked the surface:

"Tomorrow."

---

Day 27

(Empty page. Only faint smears of chalk dust pressed into the paper, as though the diary had been closed too quickly.)

---

📓 The diary ends here. Haruto never came back to class. The abandoned classroom remains locked, but sometimes… students whisper that when the blackboard is left unwiped, the word "Stay" appears again.
