"In your World, you were the greatest hero, weren't you?"
After hearing about Fang Yuan's Vought experience, Bruce looked at him with a complex expression.
Although the schemes Fang Yuan described weren't particularly sophisticated and Bruce had understood them before, Fang Yuan was shameless and unscrupulous enough that Batman, at least, could never bring himself to do those things.
"Of course!" Fang Yuan tilted his head up, his face full of pride.
He was also observing Bruce's reaction. Seeing that Bruce only shook his head in sighing wonder without showing rejection, Fang Yuan knew he had made the right move.
If he were in front of any other Superhero, even another version of Batman, Fang Yuan certainly wouldn't have exposed his true nature.
But this Bruce Wayne was a Batman from a fusion of multiple Universes. Not only were Fang Yuan's methods a bit villainous, but Bruce himself had been a villain before, so his tolerance for Fang Yuan was naturally very high.
Furthermore, Bruce had lived through the Darkseid crisis and knew what kind of dangers this Universe would face in the future. Therefore, he was already using various means to bolster Earth's defensive forces.
Monitoring various superheroes was one of those methods.
So, since this path worked for Fang Yuan, Bruce could also learn a thing or two from it.
For Fang Yuan, if Bruce accepted his true nature, he would have an excellent helper when it came to doing dirty work in the future.
Now this is what you call a win-win situation.
When night fell, Batman began his patrol again, and Fang Yuan followed along out of curiosity.
He discovered that even now, many people couldn't accurately state Batman's name.
"Ah, it's the Bat-Man!"
"Black Bat!"
"The Midnight Phantom!"
If it weren't for the Gangs being competent enough later on, Fang Yuan would have wondered what kind of "fame" Bruce's character card meant when it said he was known far and wide.
The Gangs were truly terrified of Batman. Upon spotting Batman's shadow, the lackeys began firing wildly, while the Gang leader immediately prepared to retreat. It was evident just how much Bruce had done to the gangs; he had traumatized the leader into a stress response.
Naturally, these people's attacks had no effect on Batman. They couldn't even find his position; appearing and disappearing unpredictably was practically a passive skill for Batman.
This group of gangsters was actually quite lucky. Just as Batman was halfway through dealing with them, he heard the sound of Police cars approaching and stopped his attack.
Fang Yuan raised an eyebrow, somewhat incredulous. "Gotham's Police response is this fast?"
Gordon is doing a good job.
To his surprise, Batman shook his head. "No, they are all corrupt cops. The Gang paid them a lot of money to rush over as soon as I raid them. On the surface, they're there to arrest the Gang, but in reality, they're there to stop me from continuing my assault."
Fang Yuan couldn't help but laugh.
As expected of Gotham; they'd actually unlocked a new way to play. Even he was seeing this for the first time.
Gordon really has his work cut out for him.
Even though the Police had arrived, Bruce had achieved his goal. He quickly rushed to the Gang's holding cells, released several kidnapped hostages, and only left with Fang Yuan once the hostages were safe.
Despite knowing they were corrupt cops, he didn't clash with the Police. After all, Gordon didn't fully trust him yet.
They spent a few days following a standard schedule: sleeping during the day, exchanging experiences and developing equipment together upon waking, and patrolling at night. Then, one evening, Bruce did something unprecedented—he put on a suit.
"Is there a banquet?" Fang Yuan asked.
"No, we're going to see a circus performance," Alfred replied while adjusting his tie.
He was very happy; Bruce finally had some nighttime activity other than beating up criminals.
Fang Yuan naturally tagged along.
On the way, the billionaire Bruce drove the car, Fang Yuan sat in the passenger seat, and Alfred was in the back.
So what if he was a billionaire?
He still had to be a chauffeur for the Black King. (Laughs)
Knowing Fang Yuan was an outsider, Alfred began introducing the circus performing tonight.
"This circus is very famous in Gotham. Their star act is the trapeze; the Grayson family of three are all top-tier aerial acrobats!"
"Grayson... huh?"
Fang Yuan winked at Bruce.
As soon as he heard that name, he knew exactly why Bruce had come.
The Flying Graysons, composed of a father, mother, and son.
The son, Dick Grayson, would eventually become Batman's first sidekick—the First Robin!
Who in the World loves young boys the most?
Is it the Pope acting as an unacknowledged partner?
Or the land of the rising sun where acquaintances are everywhere?
Fang Yuan felt that regardless, Batman must be on that list.
Because Batman and Robin were a classic duo for decades, and Robin was a famous underage Superhero loved by many.
However, in most versions, the Robins were orphans adopted by Batman, except for the fourth Robin, Damian, who was his biological son.
Thus, the Robins all had very tragic backgrounds.
Dick Grayson's origin involved his parents dying in an accident during a performance. He then helped Batman investigate the cause of their deaths and was eventually adopted by him.
It seemed that tonight was the night.
Fang Yuan looked at Bruce, curious about his choice.
Bruce cared for Robin and surely couldn't bear to let Dick suffer the pain of losing both parents again.
But at the same time, Batman recognized Robin's abilities; Robin truly could help him a lot. If Dick's parents didn't meet their ends, he wouldn't follow his destined life path and would never cross paths with Bruce again.
"Tonight, no one will be killed."
After getting out of the car, Bruce leaned toward Fang Yuan and spoke softly, declaring his choice.
"Though I am eager to expand the strength by my side, I have not forgotten the true intention behind why I protect the Earth."
Bruce's gaze moved to Alfred, who had gone over to greet some acquaintances.
"I want to protect those around me so they no longer suffer such misfortunes!"
"Even if they leave my side because of it!"
To be honest, hearing these words from Bruce actually made Fang Yuan feel ashamed for a few seconds.
"I thought everyone was dark, but it turns out you really are secretly playing the knight!"
However, Fang Yuan's shame didn't even last five seconds. His pursuit was to gain more superpowers and experience different sights; he felt no psychological pressure at all when it came to setting people up.
Just as he finished speaking, Bruce's eyes fixed on Alfred's location.
To be precise, he was looking at the little boy held by the family Alfred was talking to.
Noticing Bruce looking over, Alfred began the introductions.
"Master Bruce, this is Mr. Jack Drake. He is a man of integrity." Alfred rarely spoke so highly of a Gotham local.
"I know."
Bruce shook hands with Jack, as well as Jack's wife, Janet.
Bruce naturally knew that Jack was one of the few good people in Gotham. Although this was their first meeting, Bruce was very familiar with their son.
"This is my son, Timothy Drake. He's three years old!" Jack picked up his son to introduce him. "Tim, say hello to the uncles."
Watching little Tim wave his small hand before shrinking back into his father's arms, Bruce couldn't help but smile.
"Hello, Tim!" he greeted.
Tim Drake, the Third Robin.
Fang Yuan chuckled inwardly. Tonight would surely be a very sentimental experience for Bruce.
