16-1 Mariana Traps the Corrupt Police
Kembang Setaman Discotheque, manager's room inside.
A beautiful woman sat facing the table. In her right hand, she slowly moved a paper fan. On the table were a glass of cold cocktail and some company documents.
In front of her sat a tall, bearded man with a serious face.
Mariana: "Broto, lately our businesses have been frequently raided by the police."
Broto: "That's true, Ma'am. There have been many raids and arrests."
Mariana took a deep breath.
Mariana: "What are Arizal and Diono's duties, Broto?"
Broto: "They're supposed to protect our businesses and people, Ma'am."
Mariana sipped her cocktail. The paper fan continued to flutter, fanning her face though she wasn't really hot.
Broto: "But all they do is enjoy the protection money from us."
Mariana: "Yet they don't secure our businesses, Broto?"
Broto: "Exactly, Ma'am."
Mariana gave him a sharp look.
Mariana: "Arizal is playing both sides, Broto."
Broto: "What do you mean, Ma'am?"
Mariana: "I got intel from Kuntadi. Arizal is spying on our operations."
Broto: "But now Kuntadi is in police custody."
Mariana: "That's right, Broto."
Broto took a long breath and tried lighting a clove cigarette, Ji Samsu brand.
Broto: "No wonder... no wonder..."
Mariana's jaw tightened, her eyes burning sharp. The paper fan snapped open sharply.
Mariana: "Provide proof of the bribes Arizal and Diono received from us to the KPK."
Broto: "Understood, Ma'am."
Mariana: "But don't involve us in it. Can you do that?"
Broto: "Of course, Ma'am."
Mariana narrowed her eyes.
Mariana: "Oh, really?"

Mariana: "Broto, have you heard anything about the woman in the red jacket? The one who deflected my attack 1n those two twin girls in pink jackets?"
Broto took a deep drag from his cigarette while sipping his coffee.
Broto: "Yes, Ma'am."
Mariana smiled satisfied.
Mariana: "Did you also investigate who the man with her is?"
Broto nodded.
Mariana: "And do you know who the twin girls that threw knives at you are?"
Broto nodded again.
Mariana smiled slyly. She opened her paper fan.
Mariana: "Explain one by one, who are they?"
Broto sipped his coffee.
Broto: "Alright, Ma'am."
Mariana took a sip from her large glass of cold cocktail.
Mariana: "Explain about the Red Jacket?"
Broto: "The woman in the red jacket is named Nagini, Ma'am."
Mariana fanned her face, though she wasn't really hot.
Broto: "The man with her is named Burhan. He's a police officer with the rank of IpTU."
Mariana: "Good, Broto!"
Broto smiled thinly.
Broto: "According to our informants, Nagini beat the Red Gang led by Tarno."
Mariana: "Hmm."
Broto: "She even beat armed robbers at the Kemang Raya Cafeteria."
Mariana took a deep breath. The paper fan still fluttered.
Mariana: "Do you know Kuntadi was arrested by the police?"
Broto: "That was also the work of the woman in the Red Jacket."
Mariana: "You mean the one who beat Kuntadi?"
Broto: "And stopped the shipment of female workers to Thailand."
Mariana: "How dare she!"
Mariana's face flushed red, holding back her anger.

Broto took a deep breath, reached for his coffee cup, and took a sip.
Broto: "The two twins are named Rani and Rina. They beat the Cobra Gang led by Darko."
Mariana: "Using flying knives?"
Broto: "Yes, Ma'am."
Mariana: "No wonder your men couldn't withstand their flying knives."
Broto: "You mean Reno, Riko, Rifai, and Rendi?"
Mariana: "Yes!"
Broto turned his face away, embarrassed that his huge men couldn't defeat two teenage girls.
Mariana: "Do you know their addresses?"
Broto nodded.
Broto: "Nagini lives in Pondok Gede Indah apartment. Police officer Burhan often visits her."
Mariana: "And what about Rani and Rina?"
Broto: "They study at UI and live in Seroja Indah apartment."
Mariana: "Isn't UI very close to Seroja Indah apartment?"
Broto: "That's right, Ma'am."
Mariana: "Good, Broto. We will teach them a lesson!"

KPK Building.
A closed room on the seventh floor of the KPK building. Senior Police and KPK officials sit together.
They sit facing each other, separated by a long large table. At the end of the table, a large monitor is mounted on the wall.
They are holding a joint Polri-KPK meeting.
File folders containing documents are neatly arranged in front of each participant. Their faces look tense.
On the right side sit Inspector General Haryono, next to Commissioner Fadli and AKBP Aditya, representing the Police.
On the left side sit AKBP Satrio, Rustam, and Tina representing the KPK.
Inspector General Haryono, representing the Police, opens the meeting with a deep voice.
Haryono: "Colleagues, we meet here to align our perceptions about our investigation..."
AKBP Satrio: "We from KPK also have important information to follow up on together."
Haryono: "We have long allowed these gangs and mafias to operate."
Commissioner Fadli: "Now is the time to sweep them all away. No matter if some of our own are involved..."
AKBP Satrio: "We will eradicate them to the root."
Fadli: "Not only the field executors but also the networks behind them."
A moment of silence.
AKBP Satrio sips his still-hot coffee.
Satrio: "We have investigated some of our members involved in bribery."
Fadli: "According to police intel, they are Commissioner General Arizal and IpTU Diono. Is that correct?"
Satrio: "Yes, Mr. Fadli."
Haryono lights a cigarette and takes a deep drag. Smoke slowly curls.
Haryono: "What did you find, Satrio?"
Satrio: "Arizal and Diono are not just accepting bribes but also protecting illegal businesses."
Fadli: "So police intel and KPK intel match."
Haryono: "The investigation so far points to Arizal and Diono."
Satrio: "Seems we share the same understanding."
Haryono: "This is not just an individual case."
Fadli: "We are talking about networks that have penetrated our institution."

Police Superintendent Aditya
AKBP Aditya, a police investigator, sips his coffee and opens his laptop. Thick glasses help him see the screen more clearly.
Aditya: "We already have several names of drug gang bosses."
Rustam, a KPK investigator, adds.
Rustam: "Not only drug gangs, but they are also involved in gambling and human trafficking."
Aditya: "The latest info is they are suspected of being involved in weapons trafficking sent to Papua."
Rustam: "However, so far we have no clues who the big boss behind these illegal businesses is."
Tina: "Let's look at the monitor."
Tina, an investigator and member of the KPK Cyber Team, presses a button on her laptop. A beep sounds.
Blip!
The large monitor on the wall lights up automatically.
All participants focus on the screen.
The display shows suspicious bank accounts and money flows, including the names of the recipients.
Tina: "These are proof of bribe accounts for Arizal and Diono."
Rustam, KPK investigator, sips his coffee again. His face looks tense.
Rustam: "These funds come from groups we suspect as big mafias."
Aditya widens his eyes behind his thick glasses.
Aditya: "Information about Arizal and Diono's accounts is very sensitive..."
Tina adjusts her glasses.
Tina: "Someone hacked our system, Sir. They inserted large transactions into Arizal and Diono's accounts."
Satrio sips his coffee. His face is equally tense.
Satrio: "Is there any mention of who owns the funds?"
Tina: "The sender is fictitious, Sir."
Satrio: "Is the information valid?"
Tina: "Definitely valid, Sir. Everything has been confirmed with the related banks."
Inspector General Haryono clenches his fist.
Haryono: "If that's the case, we can no longer delay!"
Satrio: "We need a joint operation to arrest the disturbing gangs."

Deputy Director of Security Intelligence, Commissioner Fadli, interrupted.

The meeting fell silent again. Some participants sipped coffee and smoked.

After the tension eased, they continued the discussion.
Satrio: "Alright. The KPK will first take action against Arizal and Diono."
Haryono: "The Police will move to dismantle drug gangs, gambling rings, and human trafficking networks."
Fadli: "For gangs involved in weapons trafficking, we will cooperate with the military."
Aditya smiled faintly.
Aditya: "I like the KPK's approach. Straight to the heart of the problem."
Tina: "If we cooperate, we will quickly gather information, then execute."
Haryono and Satrio exchanged glances. Both smiled, seeing their subordinates highly competent in their duties.
Haryono: "Today we will decide on the joint Police–KPK operation."
Satrio: "We will conduct a large-scale operation to eliminate all gangs, syndicates, or mafias that cause unrest."
Finally, the meeting ended with one decision:
