Chapter 81 - Chapter 81: The Bombardment of the North Sea

After arriving in the North Sea, Viola was stationed at the entrance to Reverse Mountain.

Doflamingo's overwhelming power had crushed her with despair. For her father's life, she had no choice but to serve under him.

A trace of pain flickered across Viola's face.

Obeying the commands of her sworn enemy—yet she had no other choice.

Toward Don, she felt gratitude.

But she also knew the gulf between Don and Doflamingo was still far too vast.

This time, her true purpose was to secretly deliver a warning.

To remind Don that Doflamingo had already dispatched two of his officers to the North Sea.

She was well aware that Doflamingo did not trust her—he only valued her ability.

If she made any suspicious move, her family still in Dressrosa would be in mortal danger.

Viola's heart twisted in torment.

And just then, her ability caught sight of it.

The power of her Giro Giro no Mi allowed her to observe the situation at the entrance of Reverse Mountain from far away.

A ship, wreathed in flames, shot down the mountain's current.

Two figures stood aboard. At a glance, Viola recognized the man at the stern, setting the ship ablaze—Don, the very same from the photos.

"An ability user, fire-type!"

Viola's eyes widened, her thoughts racing.

"He's here—coming down Reverse Mountain right now!"

Her mind spun rapidly, and then she immediately spoke up.

The surrounding guards stiffened and quickly pulled out their Den Den Mushi.

Moments later, pirate ships moored at the base of Reverse Mountain opened fire.

Through her ability, Viola saw the eruption of flame and thick smoke, fire surging toward the heavens.

Her gaze locked tightly onto the battlefield, waiting for the outcome to reveal itself.

"Torch!"

A blazing dragon twister spiraled across the sea, with Don standing at the prow, blade in hand.

Incoming cannonballs collided with the flames and exploded midair.

In one move, he completely blocked the barrage.

"What… is this?"

Robin gripped the side of the ship to steady herself, eyes fixed on Don with his sword.

"Looks like they've been waiting for me."

Don's tone was casual as he replied to Robin's words.

Doflamingo's business in the North Sea was arms trafficking—producing weapons and selling them across the Four Seas and the Grand Line.

The sheer scale of this bombardment alone told Don it could only be that damned flamingo who had sent men to stop him.

Of course, it might also just be a probe.

The wall of fire dissolved, but the bombardment did not stop.

The roar of cannons thundered across the sea, waves of cannonballs raining down over Don's ship.

He swept his eyes across the waters—dozens of ships bristling with cannons were clustered together, firing in unison.

"You stay here!"

Don ordered, then leapt into the air. Flames erupted from his body, spiraling onto the long blade in his hand.

He swung.

A wall of fire surged higher and thicker than before.

From within it, a slash of blazing flame shot forth, streaking toward the distant fleet.

Boom!

The terrifying strike tore through one ship, splitting it apart.

The flames spread instantly, igniting the ammunition aboard.

The ship was engulfed in a violent explosion, shattered into fragments that crashed down onto the surrounding vessels.

Panic erupted as men scrambled to flee.

But then—one fiery slash after another rained down from the heavens.

Explosions rang out in succession, firelight piercing the sky.

Standing upon the blazing wall, Don unleashed slash after slash.

The surrounding fleet was engulfed in flames, ship after ship splitting apart and detonating in chain explosions.

Boom! Boom! Boom!

The sea below became a hellscape of fire and ruin.

The wall of fire beneath Don's feet vanished.

And below him, the fleet that had been bombarding moments ago lay annihilated by blade and flame.

Thud!

Don landed back onto the ship.

Robin looked past him at the ocean, now a sea of burning wreckage, then turned her gaze back to him.

"I thought you'd at least leave a few alive to question."

Her tone carried curiosity.

"No need. I already know who they are. And this time, I came precisely for them, so there's no point keeping stragglers alive.

Doflamingo's making such a racket in the North Sea, there's no hiding it anyway."

Don sheathed his blade, the flames around him propelling the ship forward through the fire.

The sea of flames parted to make way, his ship advancing as his slashes cut aside massive wreckage in their path.

"There's an island nearby, isn't there?"

After cleaving a hulking piece of debris, Don turned and asked.

"Yes, there is one."

Knowing Don planned to come to the North Sea, Robin had memorized the sea charts in advance. She immediately gave him an answer.

"We'll dock there and rest."

Don said firmly.

Robin nodded, pointing him in the direction.

The ship cut through the fire. Standing on deck, Robin glanced back at the blazing sea, its glow painting her face red.

"From here on, expect one battle after another. You need to be prepared. The techniques I taught you—use them in combat."

Don's voice carried over the flames.

"Yes, I understand. I'll do my best. And that… Bajiquan, right?"

Robin nodded

"That's a martial art from my homeland—a method of channeling explosive power. Try incorporating it when you use your Hana Hana no Mi."

With proper application, Robin's abilities could grow rapidly. At the very least, she would be able to easily handle pirates with bounties in the tens of millions.

This trip, Don intended to make good on his words.

If he said he'd ruin Doflamingo's business, then he would.

The fastest way was to destroy as many of his weapons factories as possible.

Even if a few survived, his trade would be crippled.

It would take time, and resistance was inevitable.

Perhaps Doflamingo himself would even show up.

For Robin, though, this was an opportunity to accumulate real battle experience—and to master her powers.

And, of course, to awaken Haki.

Time was short, and Robin likely had never trained in Haki before.

She may have read the term in old texts, but knowing the name and knowing how to cultivate it were very different things.

The Hana Hana no Mi had immense potential, but Robin also needed to strengthen her body.

After all, both Haki and her powers consumed tremendous stamina—especially the more advanced techniques.

Physical strength could not be neglected.

Still

Don glanced sidelong at Robin, his eyes trailing over her form.

He had to make sure she didn't end up a musclebound brute.

Noticing his gaze, Robin felt uneasy. His look seemed odd, though she couldn't guess what he was thinking.

"I'll work hard!" she said seriously, misinterpreting his intent.

"Eh, well… don't work too hard," Don replied.

As long as her figure stayed the same, that was enough!
