Chapter 148 - Chapter 148: Flame Emperor’s Fire Fist and the Thunder God

Feeling the rapidly expanding thunderball before him and the immense power contained within it, Don's eyes gleamed with curiosity.

"Two Hundred Million Volts — Raijin (Thunder God)!"

Enel's enraged voice echoed from within the sphere.

The lightning orb suddenly shifted shape

a giant made entirely of thunder replaced it.

So… this is Enel's awakened Logia form?

Don narrowed his eyes, observing the scene while a theory formed in his mind.

When he looked up, the skies above seemed to react to Enel's technique. Countless arcs of faint lightning flickered in the air, while dark thunderclouds began to gather once more.

Perhaps I can find inspiration from Enel to push my Flame-Flame Fruit even further.

His progress with the Mera Mera no Mi had been stuck at the "complete mastery" stage for quite some time.

Though by normal standards, that was already fast—Don himself wasn't satisfied.

He hadn't improved in too long.

His ability development had clearly hit a bottleneck.

Do I need to trigger "Unyielding" again to find a breakthrough?

But activating that wasn't easy—not anymore. With his current physique, even if he stood still and let someone hack at him, his natural recovery might outpace any damage.

As for asking for help—from Mihawk or Issho?

Don quickly dismissed the thought. He could already imagine their strange looks.

Enel, on the other hand, made for a perfect sparring partner.

A battle fought purely with Devil Fruit powers—just what he needed.

With that thought, Don swung his arm, tossing the sword in his hand back toward the ship.

Mihawk caught it midair, glanced down at the blade, and frowned slightly. Then, he turned toward Robin.

"Looks like Don has another idea."

Robin sighed, taking the sword from Mihawk's hands.

"Knowing him, that's exactly what this means."

"Move the ship farther away. Things might get a bit loud."

Don's calm voice carried over the sea.

"I'll handle this."

None of the three argued. Issho immediately used his gravity powers to move the ship to a safe distance.

Wreathed in lightning, Enel—now a colossal thunder giant—glared furiously at the retreating ship.

He hadn't forgotten what Mihawk and Issho did to him earlier.

Now, having unleashed his "Thunder God" form, his arrogance had returned in full force.

He drew his left arm back, aiming straight at the ship

BOOM!

A massive fist of lightning extended outward in a flash.

"Torch!"

BOOM!

A towering wall of fire erupted from the ground, intercepting the lightning punch midair.

In Don's grasp was a blade forged entirely of pure flame.

The burning wall clashed against the thunderous fist, exploding violently

a gaping hole burst open in the fiery barrier.

In an instant, flames surged back in to fill the breach.

Now enveloped in fire, Don floated upward until he was face to face with the thunder giant.

"Your opponent is me."

His tone was calm, even.

Enel's answer came as a massive blast of lightning that slammed directly into Don.

His body was blown apart into scattered sparks of fire

but instead of extinguishing, the embers ignited even brighter, as though the very air was fueling them.

Within moments, a massive fireball formed in the sky

as large as Enel's thunder giant itself.

It hung there, an orange-red sun blazing high above God's Island.

The heat scorched the land below.

Moisture evaporated from the plants; their leaves withered and turned yellow.

Enel's eyes widened at the sight.

Another Logia… fire?!

"Fire Fist!"

Don's voice thundered from within the sun-like sphere.

A gigantic fiery fist burst forth, smashing directly into the Thunder God's face.

BOOM!

Half his face was obliterated.

Bolts of electricity surged as Enel's form rapidly regenerated.

BOOM!

Another punch.

This one struck his chest—another explosion.

A gaping hole tore through him.

Enel stumbled backward, trying to lock onto Don's presence with his Mantra.

But inside the massive fireball, he could sense Don's aura everywhere

as if Don was the fireball itself.

Across Skypiea, all eyes turned toward God's Island.

There, high in the sky, a blazing fireball battled a giant of thunder.

"It's those people!"

Gan Fall, riding his bird-horse, watched the clash in stunned disbelief.

He recalled the ship that had sailed toward God's Island not long ago.

No one on Skypiea possessed such power

they had to be warriors from the Blue Sea.

Could they actually defeat Enel…?

Gan Fall's heart wavered between hope and fear.

At the island's edge, Issho guided the ship into position while the three aboard watched the battle unfold.

Mihawk rose to his feet, his sharp eyes fixed on the two clashing forces of nature.

Both wielded Logia powers—fire and lightning.

He had already tested Enel's strength earlier:

his fruit was powerful, yes, but he was inexperienced. Too reliant on ability, too little combat sense.

Don, though… was another story.

Their brief exchange in Alabasta had left Mihawk deeply wary.

When Don got serious, he was dangerous.

"He intends to defeat Enel using only his Devil Fruit power."

Issho spoke calmly.

"Or rather," Robin added, "he wants to shatter Enel's pride."

Her eyes glinted as she read Don's intentions.

Flame and thunder collided again and again

pure, unrestrained Devil Fruit might against Devil Fruit might.

Each clash drained their stamina, but Don's body could endure what Enel's could not.

He didn't even need to shape his flames into a form like Enel's thunder giant—though he could, if he wished.

With every impact, the fireball grew larger, not smaller.

It floated above God's Island, swelling until it nearly touched the thunderclouds themselves.

Countless bolts of lightning crashed into it, vanishing without a trace

like pebbles thrown into the sea.

When flames finally began to erupt across the island below, Don stopped.

The enormous fireball—large enough to cover all of God's Island—began to shrink rapidly.

"Flame Emperor!"

Don's form reappeared, his raised fist holding a whirling sphere of condensed fire.

The air around it shimmered and distorted from the unbearable heat.

Enel, barely holding himself together, stared at the blazing sphere.

The sheer pressure of death and destruction rolled toward him.
