A few days had passed since Lorenzo was imprisoned, and Jack, along with Everton, was having coffee at a detective bar near home.
"So, how has your investigation been going? I still haven't found any more clues about who might have killed my father."
Glub Glub[1]
"Look, Everton, I didn't have time to tell you, but I did find a clue."
"Oh! Really? What did you find?"
Jack grabs his bag and takes the photos out of it.
"As you can see, this photo of your father's body and this other one taken before he died seem to show no traces or even any changes around the crime scene."
"Yes I see. Then?"
"Then you'll have to come to my place to find out. It's already getting dark come on, let's have dinner together tonight, bro. I still have some of that pizza you like so much."
"Alright, let's go then!"
After arriving home and having dinner, Jack takes Everton to his room.
"So… Jack, what are we going to do here?"
Jack stays silent while setting up a microscope.
"Can you just tell me, bro? I'm getting confused."
"Everton, I want you to look at this photo of your father's body carefully. Use the microscope."
Everton then positions the photograph, puts his eye to the lens, and begins to go into shock.
"Wha wha wa wa wa WHAT IS THIS?!"
"Exactly I had the same reaction. That day, when we were looking for clues, something about these photos didn't seem right to me, so after you went to sleep, I decided to try looking at the photo through the microscope to see the pixels more clearly."
"This is something that even science can't explain how on earth, at the actual crime scene, nothing could be seen, yet here we can see traces of footprints?"
"I don't know. I believe this is some kind of magic that can control the rain to create an illusion and hide the killer's escape route. That's why I had the idea to ask my boss for permission to interrogate those crazy prisoners who claimed to be witches, but unfortunately, after torturing and trying to extract information from 20 prisoners, I got nothing."
"Jack, I think I finally understand one of the reasons you're obsessed with the rain… it's like the rain takes the truth away. Whenever we're about to catch the criminal, the rain hides him in the shadows."
"Everton, I need your help."
"Yes, brother, tell me what you need. We're in this together, whenever you need help count on me."
"Tonight will definitely be a night with heavy rain, heavier than usual. I need you to call as many men as you can to help us patrol the city… I feel that someone is going to die tonight!"
