Chapter 67 - Chapter 67: The Magic of Clouds

"Phew, at least it's not Erza…"

Happy let out a relieved sigh, patting his little belly.

"Erza's here too!"

"What!?" Happy's fur stood on end, and without missing a beat, he threw his teammates under the bus. "Kira, this has nothing to do with me! Natsu and Lucy made me do it!"

Kira smirked, his eyes glinting with mischief. "Nothing to do with you? Happy, Laxus saw you take the mission slip! Don't be surprised if they say you were the ringleader when we get back!"

He got caught?! Happy froze, trying to play cute to wiggle out of it. "I was forced, I swear! Waaah!"

Kira rolled his eyes. "Alright, drop the act. Save your excuses for when we're back at the guild. Don't worry, you're definitely getting punished!"

"But right now, we've got a job to finish." Kira turned to the girl floating in the air. "This is the target? A demon?"

"How'd you know?" Natsu was surprised. Kira pegged her as a demon right away, even though she looked human. How could he tell?

Kira grinned smugly. "I've seen more demons than you've seen dragons, kid. You just know after a while."

Chloe didn't have obvious demonic traits—she looked human enough—but Kira could sense the difference in her aura and the frequency of her magical energy.

After returning from Galuna Island, Kira had studied the samples he brought back: blood, tissue, and hair from the island's demon residents. After the Lullaby incident, he ran multiple comparison experiments and made some breakthroughs.

His biggest discovery? The demon factor.

The demon factor was unique to demons, like a genetic marker for humans. Each one varied slightly, but they shared core similarities.

Of course, Kira wasn't exactly a genius scientist. His experiments were limited to basic biology mixed with magic, nothing groundbreaking enough to write into magical history books. Still, distinguishing humans from demons? That was easy enough.

Glancing at the clouds swirling around them, Kira asked, "Her magic—it's clouds?"

"Yup, and the worst part is her body can turn into clouds. Natsu can't even hit her!" Happy said.

Turn into clouds? Elemental transformation? Now that was interesting!

A demon with elemental magic? It almost made Kira wonder if she'd eaten some kind of "Cloud-Cloud Fruit" or something.

Elemental transformation magic was rare in the Fairy Tail world. Across the entire story, only Juvia could fully turn her body into her element—water. Well, her and Keith, the necromancer from the Nine Demon Gates, who used a similar curse-based ability.

Kira had figured he wouldn't see another elemental mage anytime soon, but here was Chloe, proving him wrong.

A demon with water-based, elemental magic? It made him briefly wonder if Juvia had some demonic connection. Nah, he shook his head. Just a coincidence.

While Happy fretted, Natsu felt a spark of unease. Is Kira gonna steal my fight again? No way! Not happening!

Almost in perfect sync, they both spoke up.

"Let me handle this fight!" Kira said.

"This is my fight, Kira! Stay out of it!" Natsu shot back.

Kira turned to Natsu, pulling rank as an S-Class mage. "This is an S-Class mission, Natsu. You're not an S-Class mage, so guild rules say you shouldn't even be here. The moment I showed up, she stopped being your opponent."

"I don't care!" Natsu snapped, clearly pissed
