Chapter 61 - A Generous Harvest

"Argh… damn monsters!"

"I'm taking you all down with me!"

"Fire Magic, Falling Starfire!"

The casualties from the sea monsters' assault were far worse than anyone expected. In an instant, nearly thirty percent of everyone present had been wiped out.

Most of the fallen were rookies, but that didn't make the survivors any less furious. So the moment they dodged the first wave, they immediately launched a counterattack.

In an instant, countless magic streaked toward the creatures churning in the water. Sea monsters were called sea monsters for a reason: most of them were mutated sea creatures, and though they existed in swarms, they still could not survive outside the water.

Which meant that to a mage, they were little more than living target dummies.

In mere moments, the monsters crowding the shoreline suffered devastating casualties. The water turned red with their blood. Yet even so, they showed no sign of retreat. If anything, they grew more frenzied, surging toward the shore without the slightest instinct for self-preservation.

After a while, the mages on land noticed it too. Most of them had known from the start that killing these low-level creatures was pointless. They were venting their rage. Their anger spent; there was no longer any reason to keep slaughtering them.

Besides, these ocean creatures couldn't get onto land anyway.

Once the first mage lowered his staff, more and more followed suit. In the end, only a handful remained, still hurling spells into the sea with reckless abandon.

Those few had lost people dear to them in the earlier ambush. That was why they fought with such desperation.

But Ur was not one of them. He was among the last few still attacking.

Though his reason had nothing to do with revenge.

It was the magic he gained from devouring the monsters.

Strictly speaking, these creatures weren't even real monsters. At best, half-formed aberrations. Because of that, each one provided only a pitiful amount of magic power when devoured.

However, what they lacked in quality, they more than made up for in quantity. Since they weren't even trying to run away and only kept charging toward land like idiots, this was practically a free grinding session delivered straight to his doorstep.

How could Ur ever pass that up?

Water Bullet.

Water Bullet.

Water Bullet.

Against these half-baked creatures, Ur couldn't be bothered to waste his mana on higher-tier spells. That would be ridiculous.

Blue water bullets rained from the magic circle before him, pelting the surface of the sea. Before long, the surface was littered with floating monster corpses.

At the same time, the magic power stat on Ur's panel began spiking upward at ridiculous speed: +1, +1, +1, +1...

In barely ten minutes, his magic value jumped from 175 to over 200, and it was still climbing. Feeling the rising power coursing through him, a faint, satisfied smile appeared on Ur's face.

The few people nearby had been watching him, wondering why he seemed to hold such a deep hatred for weak monsters. But then they saw the grin on his face, a grin that looked utterly perverse.

A chill ran down their spines.

Holy crap.

Is this guy a maniac?

Does he… have some sort of twisted hobby?

Yeah… better keep some distance from that one.

Ur had no idea.

In the time it took him to "kill some fish," he had already left everyone present with the impression that he was someone who absolutely should not be provoked.

After all, in this world, provoking a powerful mage might not get you killed, but provoking a powerful lunatic? That was another matter entirely.

No one knew how long he kept killing. He only stopped once the monsters in front of him thinned to a few scattered stragglers.

He could feel the fatigue pricking at his mind, but the moment he sensed the immense magic swelling within him, that exhaustion vanished like smoke.

Summoning his system, Ur eagerly checked the results of his massacre.

Invincible Passive System

Host: Wei Yi (Ur)

Passive Abilities:Void Hunger, Behemoth's Power, Evil Equilibrium, Lava Body, Perseverance, Way of the Wanderer

Health: 25

Magic Power: 248

Mental Strength: 30

Magic Resistance: 1%

Armor: 2%

When Ur saw the magic value on his panel, he froze.

248.

That was already the magic capacity of an A-Class mage, barely A-Class, yes, but still an undeniably powerful level.

Not every guild was a monster-filled powerhouse like Fairy Tail. In many small, irrelevant guilds, even the guild master was only A-Class, and often a very weak A-Class at that.

This trip had been more than worth it.
