Chapter 53 - Chapter 53: The Beautiful Lake Reflecting the Starry Sky

"Pfft—" Lisanna covered her mouth, her small shoulders shaking as she tried to stifle her giggles, her big eyes curving into crescent moons. "Mira-nee's embarrassed!"

Though she lowered her voice, in the quiet house, her playful teasing was clear as day, making Mirajane want to crawl into a hole.

"Lisanna!!" Mirajane's face burned, her pale cheeks turning as red as a ripe apple. She lunged forward, pretending to grab the little troublemaker who'd called her out.

"Eek! Mira-nee's mad! Help!" Lisanna giggled, darting behind Roger like a nimble bunny, peeking out and sticking her tongue out at Mirajane.

Watching the sisters—one flustered, one mischievous—chase each other around Roger, everyone else couldn't help but laugh.

After the laughter died down, Roger glanced up at the ceiling-less house and scanned the rickety walls around them.

"This place looks like it could collapse any second. Let's camp outside tonight. I happen to have some tents. We can rest and head to the guild first thing tomorrow."

"Camping?" The three siblings said in unison, their faces lighting up with curiosity and confusion.

"Camping…" Erza took over, closing her eyes as she recalled past camping trips, a faint blush on her cheeks and a warm smile tugging at her lips.

"It's when you go out into the wild with your closest friends, listening to good music, sharing tasty food, lying on soft grass, and counting the stars in the sky."

"You sing together, cook together, play together, and take in the most beautiful sights… It's really, really amazing!"

"Wow!" Lisanna and Elfman's eyes sparkled instantly, and even Mirajane forgot her earlier embarrassment, a hopeful smile spreading across her face.

"Yay! Camping! Let's all go camping!!" Lisanna bounced up first, clapping her hands excitedly and spinning around the group, her clear laughter echoing through the room.

Mirajane watched her sister's boundless energy with a fond smile, gently reminding her, "Calm down, Lisanna. We still need to pack the things we're bringing."

"Oh! Right!" Lisanna skidded to a stop, raising her left hand with a burst of enthusiasm. "I'll go pack right now!"

She grabbed Elfman, who was still chuckling, and tugged him along. "Elf-nii! Hurry, hurry! The sooner we pack, the sooner we can camp!"

Elfman, equally excited, nodded eagerly and followed her, jogging toward the small, still-intact room in the back. "Yeah! I don't have much stuff. I'll be quick!"

"Mira-nee/sis, we'll help you pack!" their voices called out in sync from behind the door.

"Make sure to grab everything important!" Mirajane shouted after them. Not entirely reassured, she glanced at Roger and Erza with a nod. "I'm going to check on them." She hurried after her siblings.

In less than five minutes, the three emerged, each carrying a small bundle on their backs. Lisanna was practically hopping, her face brimming with uncontainable excitement.

"Big brother Roger!" She ran up to him, tilting her head back, her blue eyes sparkling under the starlight.

"I heard from Grandma Liya that there's a beautiful lake deep in the forest! At night, all the stars in the sky fall into the water—it's super, super pretty! Can we camp there?"

With Roger's affirmative nod, Lisanna let out a cheer, darting off like a bird freed from its cage. Her small figure melted into the forest's night shadows, leaving behind a trail of bright laughter.

Led by Lisanna, the group soon reached a dense patch of waist-high bushes.

"This is it!" Lisanna stood before the thicket, lowering her voice with a mischievous air. "Grandma Liya said the lake's just past these bushes! Only a few people know about it."

She swallowed nervously, anticipation bubbling up. Taking a deep breath, she closed her eyes, mustered her courage, and dove into the bushes!

Rustle, rustle… The leaves brushed against her arms and legs. When she felt no more branches, she cautiously opened her eyes—

"WOW!!!"

The sight before her stole her breath, her mouth forming a perfect little "O," unable to make another sound.

The deep night sky wasn't just black—it was a velvety blue, studded with countless diamond-like stars forming a dazzling silver band: the Milky Way, stretching clear and vivid across the heavens!

Below, a massive lake lay smooth as a mirror, reflecting the entire starry sky perfectly. Sky and lake merged seamlessly.

Standing by the shore felt like floating in the heart of a vast galaxy.

A gentle breeze rippled the water, making the reflected stars shimmer and sway softly.

In that moment, it was as if the entire universe was breathing gently before her eyes.

"So… so beautiful…" Lisanna murmured, entranced, her blue eyes filled with the radiant starlight and shimmering lake, glowing with awe.

"I… I've never seen anything this beautiful…"

Snapping out of her daze, she spun around, eager to share this breathtaking beauty with those closest to her.

"Mira-nee! Elf-nii! Look! It's just like Grandma Liya said!"

"No! It's a hundred times prettier!!"

She waved her little hands excitedly, her voice trembling with joy.

Everyone stood rooted in place, captivated by the dreamlike lake and starry sky, speechless.

Mirajane responded softly, almost to herself, "Yeah… it's really too beautiful…"

They were all lost in the silent grandeur until a loud gurgle shattered the starry quiet.

Startled, everyone turned toward the source.

Elfman rubbed the back of his head, his tanned face flushing slightly as he gave an awkward chuckle. "Uh… I… I'm kinda hungry…"

"Scenery won't fill your stomach," Roger said with a laugh, breaking the brief embarrassment.

He stepped to a flat clearing by the lake and waved his hand. Several foldable tents, a pile of packaged food and drinks, a few boxes of fresh ingredients, and a small stack of peculiar cards appeared out of nowhere.

"There's ready-made sandwiches, cake, and drinks, plus fresh meat for grilling," he said, pointing to the ingredients.

Elfman eagerly raised his hand. "I can go gather firewood! I saw tons of dry branches on the way!"

"No need," Roger said, picking up a card. A spark of magic flickered at his fingertips, and with a soft pop, a glossy black piece of charcoal appeared on the ground.

"This is 'Everflame Charcoal.' Light it with fire magic, and it'll burn steadily. Douse it with water magic, and it'll stop, ready to use again next time."

"Whoa!! That's so cool!!" Lisanna and Elfman gasped in unison, their eyes wide with wonder, like they'd never seen anything so amazing.

Lisanna raised her hand enthusiastically, her face beaming with pride. "I'll grill the meat! Mira-nee said my grilled meat smells awesome!"

Mirajane rolled up her sleeves and stepped forward. "I'll help."

Elfman glanced at the pile of food, then at his sisters, scratching his head awkwardly. His fingers fidgeted as he mumbled, "I… I'm not great at cooking…" His voice carried a hint of shame.

"No worries," Erza said, handing him a skewer of meat. "Grilling together is about the fun and lively process! Tasty food is great, but even if it's… well, less than perfect, it's still something we made together!"
