"Young Man! What technique do you wish to exchange for?" An aged voice.
"Well! Can I check through the list and the descriptions of the techniques?" Meng Chao was indeed interested in this.
"What is the point of checking? Aren't they just low-level entry techniques? You can select randomly, and once you have reached a sufficient level, you will have to exchange for a good one." The old voice this time carried a hint of disdain for the techniques on display.
"Does senior mean that the techniques in this place are not important, and the effect is the same whichever I choose?" Meng Chao asked doubtfully.
The voice had yet to reply when another one came from the entrance, and Meng Chao could see that it was a woman with a spear and intense pressure.
"Don't listen to that old ghost. Not all of the free entry combat techniques in this place are useless. Old thing! Bring out the catalogue for this young brother to see." The woman ordered.
"Instructor Mu! Don't you have anything important to do other than come to my place to cause trouble! Get lost before this old man decides to unwind my old bones!" The aged voice sounded again, only this time it had some majesty to it.
"He! Old thing, just as I want! My master just told me to come and check out my new junior brother, and you're already bullying him. Either bring out the catalogue or take a few spear strikes from this lady! Besides, why are you calling me Instructor Mu! I'm clearly only eighteen this year, when did my age match you old thing!" The woman turned even disrespectful, and her aura was not rising, but her momentum was.
It was so strong that Meng Chao felt as though he was going to be pushed to the ground, and he didn't even offer any resistance, letting himself fall to the ground. This action caught both the old man inside the library and female instructor Mu.
The pressure had not even reached that point that it could push him to the ground, and he just lay down flat. This action caused the old man in the library to twitch a few times.
When he felt the pressure had vanished, clearly these two weren't really going to fight. But a slight cough echoed from within the library, and as it reached his ears, it was like a massive drum being struck next to his head.
"Young man! Why did you lie on the ground? That does not match the demeanor of a spear practitioner." The voice had a bit of inquiry as well as blame.
It was just that Meng Chao, as he stood up from the ground, showed no embarrassment, "Senior is joking! How could the younger generation lying on the ground and the spear have anything to do with each other? Besides, what spear skills have I practiced?" He retorted fast and then seemed to have grasped the essence of the spear from the old man's words.
He instantly lost interest. He had heard rumors that the saber deity among humans possessed the strongest attack power. One thing that impressed Meng Chao about this person was their ability to assess the situation and know when to advance and retreat.
Deep down, he scoffed at it and thought. "A real man is steady but unyielding!" Clearly, this meant learning to adapt to the situation.
"Senior! I want a catalogue of all saber techniques and movement techniques."
With just these words, he made the woman before him pause and look at him with a strange gaze. He had not yet agreed to take on any mentors; as such, it was premature for any mentor to send their disciple to pick him up.
"Are you sure?" The aged voice asked again.
"Didn't the senior just say there was no difference with what I chose? Is there a problem?" He asked back.
The meaning was apparent; he was telling the old man to mind his own business. Even though it wasn't said directly, it made the woman standing on the side smile slightly, finding this new student interesting.
Suddenly, Meng Chao heard another voice, and, turning his head, discovered it was a young man with a scar across his left brow.
"I want to exchange for Xiantian resources!" The man didn't speak much, but he stated these words.
"Come in!"
To Meng Chao's surprise, the old man's voice responded without the previous disdain.
The man looked at Meng Chao and nodded slightly before walking up the stairs and pushing open the door.
Seeing this scene, he was amazed and wondered who he was.
"Who is that? Is he also a student at the Xiantian Class?" He asked in a low voice.
"That is indeed a student among the Xiantian class. He is called Mad Saber King. He is not ranked among the top ten in the Xiantian rankings, but his combat power is undeniable. He has the highest hope of attaining saber deity designation before the age of fifty." Instructor Mu replied with some hint of jealousy in her tone.
"Oh!" Meng Chao was impressed with this information and, at the same time, seemed to have grasped onto something.
Xiantian class students really could visit beyond the boundary wall, a place of danger and numerous opportunities. He was, however, not in a rush to head there at all. His priority was to take advantage of the Xiantian class resources to push his realm even higher in the Xiantian stage first.
It was also important to improve other skills, and then he would make plans to proceed from there.
"You're wondering why he was allowed to enter, and you are still standing outside, right?" he didn't know if Instructor Mu felt it was time to show off his knowledge or if she was being nice.
Meng Chao didn't let her down as he nodded.
"Haha! It's actually simple. This is the Xiantian privilege, and you can also obtain it after you manage to reach the fourth heaven of Xiantian before the four years of graduation." She provided him with another crucial piece of information.
It seemed that the threshold for graduation was reaching the fourth heaven of the Xiantian realm. In the past, he always thought his sister was below this level, but the leaderboard seemed to portray a different picture.
He was also able to tell that the requirements for graduation might not reflect the actual situation of the best students. Perhaps before graduation, some would already be closer to the grandmaster realm.
The thought did make his eyes shine brighter, as he had decided to also push all the efforts into leaving behind his name on the leaderboard, too.
It was only after some time that there was a voice asking him to enter the hall.
"Come in!"
He walked in and the first thing that came into his sight was the table wall, and on it, he could see a section with saber techniques, while the other section contained movement techniques.
The saber techniques were listed with their characteristics—those who focused on speed and some power.
"For me, the most important thing is to attain power, as for speed, it should be left for movement techniques." He had already made up his mind, and it wasn't difficult to make his decision.
It was just that he chose the two best among these mediocre entry-level techniques, and the reason for this selection was that they were incomplete.
Ninefold saber Technique
Deer Chasing the Moon
When the old man saw his selection a strange expresion appeared on his face. He knew better than anyone that these techniques were nowhere on the entry level. The reason they had been thrown in this list was simple: they were incomplete.
The Nine-fold saber technique, for instance, lacked the earlier parts and only contained the last three moves of the nine moves. Such a technique was impossible to practice, and thus it was considered a waste of time.
The deer chasing the moon was even more so, as it had been damaged, with only the middle sections present.
If he didn't have the secret of the Nine coloured branch, he might not have taken such broken techniques.
But with the nine coloured branches, perhaps he might be able to get something as long as he used the chance to comprehend them.
He might not understand the limit of this branch, but he knew that ever since it entered his body, it had brought about a lot of transformation for him.
Now, he wasn't eager to break through in the cultivation techniques; as such, he was going to give attention to these skills.
He hadn't forgotten about the booklet with four strange symbols inside; instead, he was eager to solve something that would enhance his strength.
He had more chances to check the golden symbols, but he wasn't in a rush.
"Are you sure you want to select these two techniques? Young man, even though these techniques might have been of a higher quality, what is left behind are only fragments." The old man decided to offer his final persuasion.
"Im determined!" Meng Chao had no plans to change this decision in the slighest.
