HISD Chapter 49 Fogbound, The Unspeakable

Star Dragon Calendar, Year 0200.

The day after the Federation's college entrance exam.

6:10 a.m.

The night had already been dissolved by the soft morning light, yet the city was still blanketed in cold, heavy fog. Streetlights, headlights, and neon billboards all shone dimly through the haze.

Today.

Eastern jurisdiction, Daqin Autonomous Prefecture, Tianhe City.

Fog.

…

Tianhe City, South District, Supernatural Department branch base.

"What a pity!"

"He's a top scorer, and a genius with potential in science."

"Truly a loss."

"The Federation is losing a talent, a genius, tomorrow's hope."

In the surveillance room and hallway outside the top-level isolation chamber, agents of the Supernatural Department sighed with regret.

They all knew: once a containment subject was transferred to the main state of the Eastern jurisdiction—Tianlong Autonomous Prefecture—that person would 'vanish forever' from this world.

Whether through eternal imprisonment, experimentation, or research dissection, they would no longer be Federation citizens.

The young female agent stared blankly at the silver-haired boy in isolation and suddenly blurted, "We could actually cooperate, borrow his intrusion power…"

Her words cut off. As a newcomer, she immediately sensed something wrong.

Most of the agents fell silent, giving her strange looks.

Several veteran agents who knew her well shook their heads and signaled for her to stop.

She bit her lip but stubbornly pressed on. "If he still has reason, couldn't we harness his power, like borrowing the strength of the Guardian, to resist more intrusions—"

Faces in the room changed instantly.

"Shut your mouth!!"

The middle-aged captain, silent until now, barked. His hand shot to his holster, drawing a large-caliber pistol and pressing the cold barrel against her forehead.

Her youthful face drained of color. It was the first time she'd seen her usually composed superior show such a terrifying side.

"Captain, she's just a rookie!" a male agent quickly tried to intervene.

"Remember this."

The captain's eyes were ice. "The Guardian is our homeland's miracle, the true supreme awakened one, who has protected the Federation Empire since Year 200."

"Modern intruders are evil, tumors trying to seize the world, and must all be contained!"

The female agent's lips turned pale as she trembled and nodded.

The captain, usually calm and steady, suddenly felt like a stranger.

The veins on his forehead faded as he coldly warned, "No next time. If you ever again raise thoughts that waver loyalty or confuse the will, you'll be expelled from the department and subjected to further mental evaluation."

He lowered the pistol and gave firm orders. "Prepare. Senior officials from headquarters are on their way. We'll be handing over the intrusion subjects, including high schooler Yi Meng."

"Yes, Captain!" the agents answered in unison.

Only the young female agent stood frozen, visibly shaken.

Inside the isolation chamber, Yi Meng watched it all through the surveillance system. From his God's-eye view, he analyzed calmly.

"So that's how it is."

At that moment, Yi Meng understood much.

Since two hundred years ago, beings like Homelander had descended into this world. That explained the thirty-year blank in history before the Federation was established.

The earliest cinematic invaders were likely villains—who then ruled and founded the Federation Empire.

To secure their own power and status, they must have established rules.

For example: all intrusions after theirs were deemed evil and required their inspection and control.

Even the global supernatural foundations might be led by indoctrinated followers.

Now everything made sense.

"In that case, this Federation… is not worth staying in!"

Yi Meng sneered inwardly. In such a world, he would resist regardless. Whether now or later, flipping the table made no difference.

He had already made his decision.

Once he left the Supernatural Department, he would become a wanted fugitive. He could flee to deep mountains or deserted islands while dealing with his Doomsday assimilation.

If he failed and reality collapsed into Doomsday, it wouldn't matter—his consciousness would die with it.

After death, let the floodwaters rise.

If he succeeded in becoming Doomsday Superman, then nothing in this reality—neither Homelander nor any hidden invader in the Federation—could bind him.

He would write the rules himself.

…

Just as Yi Meng resolved to leave, an agent suddenly called out, "Captain, near-earth satellites report the region is covered by heavy fog, visibility extremely low."

"It'll clear soon," the captain replied steadily. He had noticed the fog earlier outside. After all, Tianhe was in a basin, morning fog wasn't unusual.

But another anxious report quickly followed:

"Captain, our communication with the outside world has been cut off!"

"What?" the captain frowned. "The city's network and phone signals, or the satellite line?"

"Both—all of it!"

The agent swallowed nervously.

"That's impossible!" Others scrambled to pull out phones and laptops, only to find no signal.

"Even the satellite line?"

Now the captain truly felt alarm. Satellite lines did not disconnect from ground stations unless the satellite itself failed—and for them to go down along with the city's network at the same time?

If both failed simultaneously, it meant the entire Supernatural Department—and even all of Tianhe City—had become an isolated island, cut off from the world.

One agent opened a window in the third-floor hallway.

Whoosh!

A strong gust blew in, bringing dense fog that blurred the lit interior.

"This…"

The agents froze.

They had seen fog before, but never anything like this.

The blinding white mist reduced visibility to almost nothing, like a tide of darkness at night, flooding every corner inside and out.

"Close the window!"

The captain's pupils shrank as he gave the order.

But the agent who had opened it stood motionless, eyes vacant, staring into the fog outside.

"What are you doing?"

The captain rushed forward, slammed the window shut, blocking the fog, though the room was already murky white.

"Captain, outside… there are strange creatures."

The dazed agent finally snapped back, trembling violently as he pointed at the city beyond the fog—where he had glimpsed something unspeakable.
