HISD 82 The Most Terrifying Existence in the Mist
Whoosh!
Homelander flew into the mist-shrouded zone. The dense white fog churned, forced aside by the gale trailing behind him, opening a narrow passage.
He maintained an altitude of a hundred meters, his super-vision and x-ray sight cutting through the near-zero visibility. His eyes swept across the abandoned world below.
The outer edge of the mist, spanning thousands of kilometers, was littered with deserted highways, abandoned vehicles, and scattered belongings—remnants left behind by residents who fled only days ago.
But there were no signs of life. Silence. The land looked as if humanity had abandoned it for decades.
Homelander pushed further inward. A few kilometers later, the white mist abruptly darkened to gray-black.
"Oh?"
He raised his gaze. That wasn't fog at all—it was a flock of monstrous, vulture-sized birds packed so densely they resembled a rolling black cloud.
He recognized them instantly. Mist Birds—known in the invasion reports as Wing Thrush.
Each one classified as F-rank: corrosive saliva, claws sharper and deadlier than hawks, and a vicious pack-hunting instinct. Even the military considered them a nightmare to face in swarms.
"Come!"
Smiling coldly, Homelander spread his arms before crossing them over his chest, bracing himself as the flock lunged.
The next moment—
He accelerated tenfold, shattering the sound barrier. With the Federation's flag flaring like a comet behind him, he shot forward like a living cannonball.
In an instant, shrieks filled the sky. Explosions of blood mist burst all around, painting a crimson trail through the swarm. Countless shredded carcasses rained into the fog below.
"That's it?"
He lowered his blood-soaked hands and smirked with arrogance.
Without slowing, he rocketed straight toward the center of the Mist Zone—the fallen city of Tianhe, ground zero of the invasion and the nuclear strike.
The deeper he went, the more monsters appeared.
Mist Spiders: webbing laced with searing heat, classified F-rank.
Mist Mantises: towering six or seven meters, blades capable of cleaving streetlamps in two, rated D-rank.
Mist Tentacle Beasts: at least ten meters tall, their bodies bulletproof, their writhing limbs striking faster than whips.
…
Boom!
Homelander dove, caving in a mantis's skull with a single punch. He spun midair, eyes glowing, unleashing searing heat vision that split a massive Tentacle Beast in half.
"That's it?"
One strike each. Every monster fell like weeds before the scythe.
His hidden bodycam captured everything. Homelander's grin widened. This footage alone would make him humanity's savior—a god in the eyes of billions.
Coming to the East had been the right choice.
Ten billion new fans? At least.
…
Finally, he reached Tianhe City, the invasion's birthplace.
The moment he crossed into the outskirts, his expression darkened. The air reeked of blood and rot, carried on the icy mist.
Below, the ruins sprawled like an apocalypse. Corpses of humans and monsters alike littered the broken streets. Colonies of Mist Spiders and Worms bred unchecked, while hulking Mantises and Tentacle Beasts roamed freely.
Only a week had passed, yet the city looked abandoned for decades—claimed by the Mist's ecosystem.
This was no longer human land. It was a true forbidden zone.
Then—he froze.
Through the fog moved a colossal silhouette. Goat-like horns scraped past skyscrapers. Pillar-like limbs stomped across the ruins, each step quaking the ground.
The Mist Black Goat.
Classified in the invasion files as the apex predator. A-rank. A city-destroyer.
Even with the reports in mind, the creature's sheer size stunned Homelander. It was far larger than he'd imagined.
But the cameras were rolling. He couldn't retreat now.
"Let me test you—the so-called strongest monster of the Mist!"
From a kilometer away, his eyes burned red. Twin beams of heat vision cut through the fog, blasting holes into the beast's titanic body.
But compared to its enormity, the wounds were pinpricks.
Scowling, Homelander streaked forward, fists crashing through one of the creature's legs in a shower of gore.
This time, the wound was serious. The Black Goat bellowed, its roar shaking the city, before abruptly turning and fleeing into the distance.
The earth quaked as it ran.
Homelander hovered midair, stunned. That beast could've forced him into a brutal battle. Yet it was retreating?
He clenched his jaw, suppressing the urge to laugh out loud.
"That's it?"
The most terrifying monster recorded in the invasion files—and it ran from him?
A perfect stage. A perfect recording.
No need to chase. With enough footage, he could already cement his myth.
Bloodied but smiling, Homelander soared toward the city center.
Then—he stopped dead. His blue eyes glazed over, fixed on the scene below.
At the heart of Tianhe, the nuclear blast had left a massive crater, spanning over ten square kilometers.
But the crater wasn't empty. It was filled—and overflowing.
Black mountains piled high.
Thirty or more corpses of Mist Black Goats.
Each one slain brutally: heads severed, bodies cleaved in two, limbs mangled beyond recognition.
All stacked like offerings in the pit.
For the first time since adulthood, Homelander felt something unfamiliar.
Fear.
All the way here, he had wondered—where were the Mist monsters? The reports said they spawned endlessly, yet he had seen far fewer than expected.
Now, he had the answer.
They were all here.
Slaughtered.
Even the Black Goats.
"What… is in this city?"
His mind replayed the fleeing Black Goat's terrified roar. It hadn't run from him.
It had run from something else.
A chill prickled down his spine.
And then—he sensed it.
Turning sharply, he spotted a figure standing atop the half-collapsed ruins by the crater.
A humanoid creature, two meters tall.
Its body covered in jagged bone spurs.
Something not found in any invasion report.
Something unknown.
