Chapter 23 - Whisper of Guilt

Azer watched Lidien's face frowning every now and then.

"Building a Coreflux is hard... even for me, especially since that method of meditation is the most basic of all... and could absorb all kinds of Elements, making your Coreflux full of impurities... slowing down the verve passing through your Sparkline while also having a chance of failed Spell that could have a drawback straining it."

Lidien opened his eyes and stared daggers at Azer.

"Then why give me this kind of meditation?"

Azer laughed and fisted Lidien's head.

"Do you think I have another meditation method? Even I used that one, and slowly learned how to adjust it, making it appropriate for my own needs... and also, Advanced Meditation Methods can only be learned in the Eastern Continent... and good luck going there without them knowing you're a Demon..."

Lidien learned the geography of the world while listening to the woman in the Knowledge Spire.

The World is a Globe like Earth and is called the Mortal Realm... but unlike Earth, this New World is divided into two major continents called West and East.

The West Continent is considered the home of Demons and Magical Beasts, and Humans living here can only become Demons themselves or slaves to them, and worst, feed for Magical Beasts.

And the East Continent is ruled by the Life and Light Churches in the Arcane Dominion, Northern part, and the never-ending warring Kingdoms in the Celestial Empire, Southern Part.

While the Savage Expanse could be considered at the center of both continents, however its land is connected to the Western Continent, making the influence of Demons have much more impact than the Churches.

As an independent region, the Savage Expanse became a warzone of Blessed and Demons, making every Tribe in its region their slaves fighting for their own cause, dividing it into four Major Clans.

However, Lady Rose established the Blood Rose Clan, with the sole purpose of being freed from both Western and Eastern Continent influence, slowly expanding her force.

"So, I also need to Master using this method if I want to freely travel the Eastern Continent?"

Azer laughed, thumping his legs.

"Is that all you could think of, to Travel? Meditation is one thing, but knowing how to properly use the verve in your Coreflux is the same as having two Dreamflows... one with the Intense Emotion of your Wrath, while the other is the Elemental Essence..."

Azer once again raised his hands and faced his palm against the wall, as a vortex of red-like verve congregated, mixing with hazy ghost-like faces; he sent it towards the wall.

Suddenly, a golden thin film blocked the verve ball.

As the grinding and screeching sound was produced, sending sparks of verve burning its surroundings.

Before the golden thin film protecting the wall vanished, making the wall explode so powerfully that it shook the whole floating castle.

Yet, Lidien focused his eyes on the vanishing ghost as he heard what they were saying, being thankful for being released.

'Now I know, it wasn't my Soul whispering... but the ghost near me telling me what to do... so that's why, it's either mischievous or a guide... it depends on the one who is actually whispering to me...'

As his realization struck, another barrier in his soul lifted... upgrading his Whisper of Soul one stage higher, the same as his Echoes of the Flesh...

Now, the only remaining skill that hasn't been upgraded from his Crimson Shard was the Incite of Blood.

'I should thank my Brother for helping me realize what my Whisper of Soul is... sadly, I need to keep my ability secret, for this could be my trump card in the end.'

Azer stared at Lidien smiling, staring at the gaping hole as the shattered mirrors outside were crashing into each other.

"You seem not surprised... or is that your reaction when you're excited?"

Lidien gazed at Azer still smiling; although the destructive power of the verve ball was overshadowed by Lidien's skill advancement, he couldn't neglect the result of having a Coreflux rather than none.

Until a sound of a hundred footsteps resounded through the corridor, as the Training Room door opened; Lidien was surprised when a woman, dressed in Leather Armor, came in battle ready.

As the woman gazed into the eyes of Azer, she immediately knelt and gestured for the soldiers behind her to leave.

"Ah right, disturbances..."

Azer laughed and shook Lidien's head, who was still sitting in lotus position.

"Blame this kid for being idiotic; tell Mother he will compensate for the broken wall and barrier."

Lidien frowned while gritting his teeth before pointing at Azer while looking at the woman.

"He was the one who destroyed the wall! Why should I be the one to compensate for it..."

Lidien stood and left the Training Hall, leaving Azer, who was still laughing, explaining everything to the woman.

Leaving the Rift of the Shattered Mirrors, Lidien was welcomed by the purple sky of dusk.

He then proceeded towards the direction of the Knowledge Spire when he noticed that the stares of the people looking at him were either hatred or fear; still, they maintained their distance.

Lidien didn't linger on it, and stood in front of the Knowledge Spire where the middle-aged man greeted him with excitement.

"My Prince... Are you here to listen to stories again? I have already prepared a good reader that could satisfy your boredom."

Lidien glanced at the woman, young and beautiful; she eyed Lidien with innocence and grace, making Lidien unconsciously smile at her.

"How mindful you are... okay, follow me... I want to relax my mind from frustration today; I hope your voice can help me maintain my sanity..."

Lidien proceeded towards the first floor of the Knowledge Spire with the woman; as he entered, the same kind of stare greeted him, either fear or hatred.

Though it was understandable for being a Prince, Lidien was still too lazy to confront them, and it would only make him seem weak if he got provoked just by it.

Listening to the soft voice of the woman reading him stories, Lidien closed his eyes and relaxed... making him feel the verve around him slowly fill up his lower abdomen.

When suddendly Lidien's meditation was disrupted by the Whisper of Soul echoing deep within him.

As he opened his eyes, a woman, the same person who first read for him, was there standing beside him.

Yet, as Lidien's stare went down...

He saw something that is impossible for a living being.

Her chest, where the heart should have been, was hollowed with a gaping hole.

"You... Killed... Me..."
