I stared at the code-like display, my programmer brain immediately understanding the structure. It was showing me the chest's properties like a database entry.
"Holy shit," I whispered. "I can see the actual data of objects."
Then a new panel popped up in front of me.
[Debug Vision]
[Description: Allows user to view object/entity data in readable format. Shows properties, stats, and hidden information.]
[Limitation: Cannot see through magical concealment above user level.]
I read through the contents and nodded. The skill was straightforward enough, basically a scanner that showed me the underlying data of whatever I looked at.
"So, if I can see it... can I edit it too?"
I muttered while focusing on the chest again. This time, I tried to mentally alter the value, changing the silver coins from 3 to 5.
But...
"Argh!"
A sharp pain shot through my brain like someone had driven a nail into my skull. My vision blurred and I gripped the chair's armrests, knuckles going white.
My heart pounded as the pain slowly receded, leaving behind a dull ache.
[Warning: Unauthorized edit attempt detected]
[Current user level insufficient]
I stared at the error message, rubbing my temples.
[Host needs to level up and unlock more system functions before attempting to alter the values of non-living things.]
"Great, couldn't you just have told me about this earlier?" I clicked my tongue in irritation.
[Host shouldn't have been so careless.]
Then I sighed and stood up, my legs still shaky. As I walked back to the bed and laid down on the fresh sheets Agnes had put on, my body still throbbing from the failed editing attempt.
"So, what next? Will you give me quests?" I asked, staring at the ceiling.
And it was just as I thought.
[Yes. Host will be given a series of quests and will be rewarded accordingly. The system is designed to help host.]
"Then can you tell me who designed you?"
[...]
The system fell silent for a moment, the interface flickering slightly.
[Host level is insufficient.]
Typical.
I thought. Every game had information locked behind level gates.
[Host should focus on completing tasks and leveling up quickly if he wants to know more about the system and its functions.]
[Ding!]
A new quest window materialized.
[Main Quest: Survive the Poison]
Objective: Reduce poison damage to below 2 HP/hr
Current Damage: 5 HP/hr
Reward: 150 EXP | ??
I studied the quest parameters.
"Any hints on how to actually do that?" I asked.
[Use available resources. Think creatively.]
"That's not helpful at all."
The system didn't respond.
I closed my eyes and tried to think. Agnes's healing broth had restored some HP, but it hadn't healed the poison effect. I needed something stronger, or I needed to find the source and stop it entirely.
Then I opened my eyes and walked back to the mirror.
I stood in front of my reflection and took a deep breath.
"Debug Vision," I whispered, focusing on my own reflection.
The familiar interface materialized, but this time the data was far more detailed than the simple status window:

bone_density: 67% (normal: 95%)
immune_system: 12% (normal: 100%)
toxin_buildup: 89% (critical_threshold: 95%)
}
I stared at the code, my reflection blurring as the implications hit me.
The toxin buildup was at 89%. Six percentage points away from what the system labeled as "critical threshold." Whatever that meant, it probably wasn't good.
Then I closed the interface and sighed, running my hand through my greasy hair.
"That's a minor poison. Probably not lethal enough to kill quickly, but given the toxin buildup, this body's been poisoned for a long time. I need some kind of antidote or detoxifier."
I looked around the sparse room, searching for anything that might help.
The wooden chair groaned as I moved past it. My eyes swept over the furniture, the chest, the nightstand, the small washbasin in the corner.
Nothing medicinal. Well, its obvious, there's not going to be any antidote sitting around waiting to be discovered.
I walked to the washbasin and splashed some water on my face.
Think. What resources do I actually have?
Agnes knew about healing herbs, she'd put them in the broth. But asking her for poison antidotes would raise questions I wasn't ready to answer.
The system had said to "use available resources" and "think creatively." Maybe I didn't need a traditional antidote.
I could try to find Vivienne's poison stash and analyze it with Debug Vision. Understanding the exact compound might give me clues about how to neutralize it.
But first, I needed to understand this house better. Where was everyone? What was my daily routine supposed to be? How much freedom did I actually have to move around?
Though I had seen memories of Jin Raith, but they're fragments, not the whole picture.
I needed information before I could make any real plans.
And I needed to be careful. One wrong move, and the people who'd been slowly killing Jin Raith might decide to speed up the process.
