Chapter 29 - The Deal Beneath The Blood

Ares's POV

 The rain hadn't stopped since last night. It beat against the glass like it was trying to wash the whole city clean… but some stains didn't go away that easily.

 I sat on the edge of the leather couch in my penthouse, the same spot I had been in for hours. A mug of untouched coffee sat on the table, cold now. The news was playing low in the background… something about market fluctuations, a merger rumor… but my head wasn't there.

 For once, business wasn't the noise.

The silence was.

 I leaned forward, elbows on my knees, staring at nothing. My knuckles still ached from punching the wall last night after Zara left my office with that smirk… the one that said she knew something I didn't. The one that made my blood burn.

A soft sound came from the hallway.

Then the click of shoes

 Nathan, my personal assistant… stepped in quietly, holding a tray. "You should eat something, sir." he said. "You've been sitting there since four."

 "I'm not hungry." I muttered.
