Chapter 61 - Allies and Enemies

Ares's POV

The morning after the storm was quiet, but the city didn't feel calm.

It felt tense… like the silence before another strike.

I hadn't slept. The same line kept echoing in my mind, Zara's voice smooth but sharp:

"You don't even know what she is capable of."

I was not sure if she meant Jasmine… or herself.

By 7 A.M., I was already parked outside Jasmine's building. I didn't call, didn't text. I just needed to see for myself that she was safe.

When she opened the door, she didn't even look surprised. Her eyes were tired but alert, shadowed from another sleepless night.

"You didn't sleep either." I said quietly.

She shook her head, stepping aside just enough for the morning light to catch the faint bruise beneath her eye. "After someone tells you to stop before it's too late, sleep isn't exactly easy."

I frowned. "You got a message?"

She nodded, crossing her arms like she was trying to keep herself together. "An email. No sender. Just that line."
