Chapter 56 - Chapter 56: Returning to the Field

The morning sun shone warmly over Ravenshire, glinting off the dew-soaked grass of the training ground. Hunnt stepped onto the familiar clearing, stretching his shoulders as he surveyed the open field. The crisp scent of morning air mixed with the earthy smell of freshly turned soil, and for a moment, he allowed himself a small smile. [It's good to be back here… but I've changed. I need to test what I've learned.]

From the far edge of the clearing, Corwin waved energetically, swinging his new hammer casually, while Pyro darted forward, tail flicking excitedly. The little Felyne leapt onto a tree stump and landed gracefully on his shoulder with a soft "mrrp!" of recognition.

"Hunnt! You're back!" Corwin called, breathless with excitement. "Where have you been hiding all this time?"

Hunnt chuckled, rubbing the back of his neck. "Sorry, I've been… busy. The forge has been keeping me occupied." [Busy isn't even the word. Coerl's lessons have pushed me further than I imagined.]

Hunnt's lips quirked. "It's not just learning. Coerl is teaching me to integrate monster materials into weapons and armor. Bone, sinew, scales… I'm experimenting with ways to make weapons stronger, lighter, and more adaptable." He glanced down at Pyro, who purred approvingly, brushing against his legs. [Every lesson at the forge has a purpose. I can feel it.]

Corwin's eyes widened as he took in the implications. "You've been learning… and applying it? That's… amazing. Even I didn't think we'd see this kind of growth so quickly."

Hunnt's expression softened slightly, but a frown crossed his brow. "Yeah… but there's a problem. Coerl is running low on raw monster materials. I can plan, design, experiment all I want, but I can't create fully functional weapons without the materials themselves." [So it's not enough to just learn. I'll need to hunt, gather, and plan…]

Corwin scratched his head thoughtfully. "So… you need to go hunting? Or trade with other hunters?"

Hunnt chuckled softly, letting out a long exhale. "Exactly. Until then, I can only sketch and refine designs. But the real test comes when we have the materials to apply these techniques."

Pyro leapt to his shoulder again, brushing his golden eyes against Hunnt's cheek as if encouraging him. "Yeah… we'll figure it out," Hunnt murmured, scratching behind Pyro's ears. [One step at a time. First, we train. Then, we hunt. Then… the real work begins.]

Corwin hefted his hammer and grinned. "Alright! Enough talking. Let's see how all that forge work translates out here on the field."

The trio moved across the clearing, each demonstrating their skills in fluid coordination. Hunnt tested his agility and precision, Pyro darted between dummies with catlike grace, and Corwin's hammer strikes landed with controlled force. The air rang with the rhythm of their training, the forest beyond silently observing.

Hunnt's mind, however, never stopped analyzing. [Each movement I make could be improved if the weapons and armor were optimized. Each strike could exploit momentum better. Coerl's lessons aren't just about materials—they're about anticipating reactions, understanding weight, and predicting outcomes.]

Hours passed in a blur of motion, sparks of determination and sweat flying from every exertion. By midday, Hunnt paused, wiping his brow, feeling the strain of training. Yet, beneath it, he felt a quiet satisfaction. [I've grown stronger—not just physically, but mentally. Every strike, every dodge, every coordinated movement… it's all part of the craft.]

Corwin noticed the thoughtful expression. "You've changed, Hunnt. You're… calmer, more precise. Feels like you're moving differently, thinking differently."

Hunnt offered a small nod, glancing at Pyro, who perched lightly on a stump, tail flicking. "Coerl's lessons… they teach more than just forging. Anticipation, control, understanding the materials you work with… and the ones you fight against."

Pyro let out a soft, approving "mrrp," and Hunnt allowed himself a small grin. [Yes… we're ready for the next step. But first, I need to find more materials. The forge will wait… and so will the hunt.]

The training continued, laughter and exertion mingling with the morning breeze. For the first time in weeks, Hunnt felt fully present, fully alive—ready to face whatever challenges lay ahead, both at the forge and in the fields beyond Ravenshire.
