Chapter 22 - Ends and New Beginnings

VEILA

I have never seen anyone like him. It is sheer madness to just give your life up like that for someone you don't even know until today. I will never understand what he was thinking in that moment. The moment he said he was going to fight the phoenix I knew something was off about him! No one dare to face a beast about 5 classes above his current rank!

Judging from the aura I can feel from him, he should be an A+ Rank, though most of the maagi skills he shows seems to be above that rank by far, but still it's nowhere close to the power of the phoenix. Phoenix are rumoured to be beasts that can never be killed. If they die, they will rise from the ashes and become more ferocious. He is only a human, how can he survive such a fight?

The wolf like hybrid beast that the boy tamed takes us so far to the top of a mountain that even supersenses can't reach this far away. We are safe here, at least for now. Beasts aren't meant to relate with other beasts not to talk of having a child with one. What exactly is the beast before me? A mystery like it's tamer.

Pacing crazily the beast increases my agitation. The beast looked more than just a ferocious pet. It acted wise, intelligent, like it had a brain like us. It keeps pacing and everywhere its paws touch the ground, frost is left there until half of the place we were was frozen totally.

"You pacing isn't helping!" I release through gritred teeth as the cold starts seeping into my body. The beast turns to glare at me, but seeing me shivering it release a breath from its nose and falls on the floor. Instantly all the ice retracts into its body. Fascinating. Only a few beast have abilities that connect to elements and those beasts are always the most powerful of their kind, but the beah before me looked even more powerful than any of its kinds.

We remain in silence for a long period. I wish I could speak to this beast, but even beast tamers can only communicate with their tamed beasts. I just keep staring at the beast fur, ithe streaks, the ice forming around its paws and the rocklike protrusion around his body. Because they are the same silver color as his fur they looked like diamonds.

I wa still thinking when the beast jumps to its feet with wide eyes and a clearly shocked expression. It barks at me and I don't need anyone to tell me he wants me to get on his back! But where are we going? As the Phoenix killed the boy and is after us! That thought sends shivers down my bones as I get on the back of the beast!

To my utmost shock the beast carries me towards where we are coming from previously. I pull it's fur to stop it or turn it around but all I get is a loud growl that shuts me up. This beast cab kill me and with my depleted Maagi I stand no chance. I let it continue running through the realm we are in and I admire it.

Thick blackness covers everywhere, no sign of light around. The only reason I can see is because Elves get night vision once their maagi is awakened. The landscape is covered by rocks, mountains, a few trees here and there, but most of the beasts here are carnivores so trees don't matter to them.

We finally arrive at the scene and I couldn't believe my eyes. The Phoenix was nowhere to be seen. Its like it dissapeared into thin air. All left is the tangy scent of ashes in the air. The boy was laying in a pool of his own blood and above him a golden ball of light floats above his body. I jump off the beast and just as we come close to him the golden ball of light turns and fooes towards me. Before I could think, it slams into my body and fire flows through my veins. Maagi pours into me but it's not the normal one I'm used to.

This Maagi felt different, like it belonged to something else, like it is an extract of someone else. The maagi continues pouring till it's fully absorbed into my body. My vision returns and instantly I fall to the be ground panting heavily.

"Humans and being over dramatic!" A voice says above me and I stare into snow white eyes

"Did you just say something?" I ask

"Is this female human insane, like this boy?" The voice says again and I roll my eyes

"I'm not insane! I can hear you!" I snap and the beast eyes widens. His snow white eyes glow with a blue tint and now his eyes pop out of their sockets.

"It was a beast spirit? Impossible! And a phoenix spirit at that!" The beast speaks to itself staring at me! Beast Spirit? That's impossible! It's only 1% of beast that have Beast Spirit, and it must be extracted when the Beast is still alive. How did the phoenix beast spirit remain after the beast was gone!

When a beast is killed, the most important thing is their maagi core. However, certain beasts have something called a beast spirit and if it is extracted while the beast is alive the person who absorbs it can use the beasts abilities or even become it.

It's exponential power and it doesn't come lightly. The process is deadly and dreary! Not only do you have to absorb the beast spirit, you have to also balance it with your own Maagi till they become one. Some call this the Assimilation stage.

The final stage then is the acquisition stage. This is where you use the assimilated Maagi in a way you would finally acquire the beast form. It can take months depending on the level of the beast.

If the Phoenix Beast Spirit is left behind does it mean the boy did it? Did he really kill the phoenix? Did he really do it? If he did then I fear what he would have become if he lived. I look towards him and he wasn't laying in a pool of his blood anymore. He was wrapped in a block of ice and the beast was right beside him!

"What are you doing? Preserving his corpse for food!" I yell at the beast and he growls at me loudly.

"You think I would eat my tamer? Even if I wanted to I can't. The bond won't allow it!" He snaps back and my face falls. I don't understand how taming bonds work and I think I just insulted something deep within the beast.

"I'm sorry. I just thought he deserves a befitting burial" I apologize in a soft tone

"Burial?" The beast asks and I nod. I guess the beast born in a dog eat dog world where power and authority was all that was needed to survive. He eats his kills so the concept of burning a corpse didn't make sense to him. I just have to find a way to break it down to him calmly.

"As humans, when someone close to us or around us die, we don't just leave our dead for the bords of the sky to devour, we hokdba ceremony to bury them in the ground too ease their death process and passage to the other side" I explained and the beast looks at me with an amused look.

"We call it the Transcension Ritual among my people. Our people believe when you bury beings in the ground, it will aid their Transcension from the mortal realm to the land of the dead smooth and direct.

Else their souls will become wanderers cursed to wonder the earth for the rest of eternity in their Spirit Form." He explains and I muyt say in impressed. I always thought of beasts as brute creatures, with no culture, morals, or anything except their drive for murder and insatiable hunger for blood.

Now hearing this beast talk more about his cultures made me realize our inability to communicate with beasts have made us forget that they also posses Maagi and to a certain extent have a mind of their own. I face the beast and I could see tears glistening on its eyes like he would cry soon. He looked glazed like he was reliving a memory and I don't distract him until he finally speaks.

"That shows I know exactly what a burial means, and No we are not burying anyone today, or anyone anytime soon!" The beast replies and confusion fills my expression. Let's bury this body and find a way out of here! He gave up his life for us and he died a warrior. The least respect we coudl offer him is a befitting burial, and maybe an ice sculpture of him with the name Phoenix Slayer is that is not too much!

"What do you mean no burial?" I ask "you know the importance of this and how much respect it gives to people!" I add and the beast just rolls his eyes.

"Burials are mesnr for dead people. The beast says glaring at the body on the floor and everything begins to click in my head. The ice block, the taunt, everyone of it meant something.

"He is still alive!" I yell happily and the beast rolls his eyes. Though with he ice surrounding him, he is placed in a catatonic state meaning he is near death but this is the mad boy we are talking about.

He will live! He will live! He will live!
