"They seem so desperate for their son's closeness," Sara murmured, crossing to the large bed. She sat down, leaning back comfortably against the propped pillows, resting her weight on one elbow.
Luca stood by the small, round end table, his hands clenched. "I have no desire for their affection any longer," he stated, his voice devoid of warmth. His gaze fixed on the document folder his father had presented him earlier. He reached out and picked up the file.
He walked over and settled beside her on the mattress, then quietly offered the folder.
"What is this?" she asked.
"Examine it for yourself," Luca replied. She accepted the folder and lifted the cover to read the contents.
"You are now a part of this family," Luca declared, preempting her protest. "Keeping these assets is your privilege. Do not refuse this."
