Rindou didn't stop running until she was two hallways away, her heart hammering against her ribs like a trapped bird.

She leaned against a wall, her breath hitching as she glanced back over her shoulder.

Earlier, the air around Retsu-sensei had felt like a vacuum, a cold, hungry pressure that made Rindou's survival instincts scream.

What was that? she wondered, wiping a bead of cold sweat from her brow. I've faced veteran swordsmen during my training with grandfather, but Sensei looked at me like I was a glitch in her reality that she needed to delete.

She shook off the lingering dread, focusing on going back to her task to find the man that filled her mind for an entire month and wouldn't leave.

After walking for a few minutes, she arrived at the shoe lockers at the entrance, and the closer she got, the more her Ki thrummed in excitement.
