"Let me see who it is," Tony started to walk over, but Happy blocked him.
"Don't go over there, Tony. What if he means harm?" Happy said seriously.
Tony stopped immediately. The bundle on the ground writhed even more violently.
Just then, the entire house suddenly blazed with light as a group of agents burst into Tony's home, led by Coulson.
Bogg didn't have time to hide himself and was instantly exposed. Everyone in the room stared at each other. "Nobody move!"
Tony flew into a rage. "Coulson! What's the meaning of this!"
Coulson was also at a loss, staring at Fury bound up on the floor. He didn't know what to say and waved his hand, making his agents retreat. "Don't misunderstand, Mr. Stark. This is our director."
Tony laughed angrily. "Why is your director breaking into my house? And hacking my AI butler?!"
"Ahem!" Fury, finally freed from his mouth restraints, made a sound.
"Don't get excited. I just wanted to come see you. By the way, what exactly caught me? An alien?!" Fury asked.
Tony scowled. "None of your damn business! Who exactly are you people? Don't try to fool me with FBI—they don't have your kind of nerve!"
With Coulson's help, Fury finally managed to stand up. He could see Tony's entire body radiating red light that hurt his eyes. This made Fury's mouth taste bitter. He'd originally wanted to sneak into someone's house and show off, but now he'd made himself look like a complete fool. Just wonderful.
"We're from the Strategic Homeland Intervention, Enforcement and Logistics Division. I'm the director. I don't know if you've heard of this organization—after all, your father founded it," Fury said. Seeing that mysterious intimidation wasn't working, he played his trump card.
Tony's eyes widened. "Just because you say my father founded it doesn't make it true! Wait right there! I'll get to the bottom of this! Bogg! Watch them! They're currently guilty of illegal trespassing. If they make any moves, take them out!"
"Yes, sir!" Bogg spread his hands, pointing one at each person, glaring menacingly at Fury and Coulson.
Tony ran straight to his lab where Maria's portrait was located. He needed to confirm what kind of people these were.
Fortunately, Maria hadn't gone visiting today and was quietly having tea in her portrait. After hearing Tony's words, she sighed. "Tony, it really was founded by your father, but it's very complicated. Honestly, I didn't want you involved, but from the current situation, it seems unavoidable. Bring Fury down here. I'll talk to him personally. If I'm not mistaken, his current position should be sufficient."
Seeing he couldn't dissuade Maria, Tony could only storm upstairs angrily to fetch Fury, while restarting Jarvis and having him run a complete scan on Fury.
After removing a pile of tracking devices and bugs with various clinks and clanks, Tony finally brought the man to his lab with a complicated expression. He really hadn't expected someone to plant so many gadgets on him. Did these people have no concept of privacy?!
"Fury, long time no see. Last time I saw you, you were just a New York regional director. What's your position now?" Maria said with a smile.
"What the fuck?!" Fury could hardly believe it. "What is this? You're Maria Stark?! You're not dead? Where are you? This is impossible! We clearly saw your bodies!"
Maria's expression changed. "How rude of you. Who talks about corpses to someone's face? Tony, please step out."
Tony's eyes widened. "This is my lab! What can't I know?!"
Maria smiled sweetly at Tony. "Then shall I have Fury take me out instead?"
Tony reluctantly left, looking back every three steps.
"So what's your situation?" Fury said, beginning to examine the small portrait. It really didn't look like any high-tech device.
"That hidden eye of yours—if I'm not mistaken, it's Weasley craftsmanship, isn't it?" Maria calmly sipped her tea. Good thing the Weasley boy had stayed here quite a while—that magical energy signature was very familiar!
Fury's expression shifted. "It should be."
"You still haven't said what your current position is. I need to confirm your rank to know if you can make decisions," Maria said.
Fury was silent for a moment. "I'm currently director of the Strategic Homeland Intervention, Enforcement and Logistics Division headquarters, clearance level 10."
Maria nodded with satisfaction. "Good. As you can see, I'm now a portrait—literally a portrait. The principle is similar to your eye, but the method is different. Regarding our cause of death, don't reveal it to Tony yet. I'll tell him myself. And those things Howard left behind—I hope you can return them to Tony. You've probably studied them already. They're just a father's gift to his son."
"No problem. I can authorize all of that. I can return his things, but I need an explanation. You, that All-Purpose Shop, the suspected alien around Tony—what's really going on?" Fury agreed without hesitation and threw out a series of questions.
"How much influence do you have over the Strategic Home... this is really a mouthful. Change the name!" Maria rarely stumbled over words. "In your organization, how much say do you have? Can you make all the decisions? There are some things I'd prefer the U.S. government not know about."
Fury narrowed his eyes. "Our Strategic Homeland Intervention, Enforcement and Logistics Division doesn't belong to the U.S. government. We're under the United Nations..."
"Don't be ridiculous. You're on American soil with 80% American agents," Maria interrupted Fury without ceremony.
"Fine, I understand. I can guarantee that what I hear today won't get out, and certainly won't reach the government," Fury touched his nose and agreed.
"That's not enough. I need to take precautions," Maria smiled.
Fury widened his eyes dramatically. "Mrs. Stark, do you want me to swear an oath?"
Maria nodded with satisfaction. "Since you're being reasonable, here's a friendly tip—breaking this kind of oath can be fatal. Do you still want to know?"
Fury was silent for a long while, thinking of countless methods, even considering stealing Maria's portrait. Finally, he compromised. "Alright, I think I need to know. After all, my job is protecting Earth's safety. I must understand why these unexplainable things are happening."
"Go get Tony, and have Tony call that girl from the All-Purpose Shop. Once everyone's here and the oath is made, you'll naturally understand everything," Maria said with complete satisfaction.
