Chapter 39: Physical Training and Hatching the Egg
"Greninja, Dark Pulse!" Ryan clenched his fists as he synchronized with Greninja's Bond Phenomenon. A sphere of dark energy gathered, and with a thrust, Dark Pulse struck Mewtwo.
Unfazed, Mewtwo cupped its hands, forming an Aura Sphere that shattered the Dark Pulse and sent Greninja flying, rendering it unable to battle.
"Match over. Mewtwo wins," Lillie announced from the sidelines.
Ryan collapsed to the ground, panting heavily. The Bond Phenomenon with Greninja consumed significant stamina, and the current synchronization was somewhat ineffective due to his physical limitations.
"I need to find a way to quickly increase my stamina and physical strength," Ryan muttered to himself, thinking about his training regimen. He'd been focusing so much on his Pokémon's development that he'd neglected his own physical conditioning.
Ryan had been researching various training methods from different regions. He'd heard about the intense physical conditioning that trainers in other regions underwent—techniques that pushed the human body to its limits to better synchronize with their Pokémon.
After reviewing several training programs, Ryan settled on a comprehensive fitness regimen that combined endurance, strength, and flexibility training. It wasn't flashy, but it would build the solid foundation he needed.
Ryan read through the training manual, his expression growing serious as he realized the commitment required. "Long-distance running, calisthenics, core strengthening... this is going to be intense," he said, gritting his teeth.
The program emphasized building fundamental fitness before progressing to advanced techniques. While it would take time, Ryan knew there were no shortcuts to proper physical conditioning.
Ryan began his training with a long run around the beach. His Pokémon, assuming they were starting another practice session, joined him in the run. Lillie watched Ryan's sudden dedication to exercise, shook her head in bemusement, and picked up the Super Rod to take over his fishing duties.
As Ryan worked out, he remembered the Z-Ring in his backpack. Z-Moves also required a trainer's physical cooperation to unleash their full potential, demanding considerable stamina. But without Z-Crystals, the Z-Ring was merely decorative. If he had time, Ryan would definitely travel to Alola to challenge the Totem Pokémon and acquire some Z-Crystals.
However, the Indigo League was approaching, so there was no time to visit Alola now. After the tournament, Lillie would be returning to Alola, and Ryan could accompany her to challenge the Island Trials.
After training until noon, Ryan and his friends returned to the estate. As they were preparing for lunch, Machamp hurried over, carefully carrying a Pokémon Egg. The shell was glowing with white light, indicating it was about to hatch.
Ryan quickly took the egg—a rare Pokémon egg he'd obtained from a Pokémon Breeder for completing a difficult request, though it hadn't hatched during his journey. Only now, with the tournament approaching, did it begin to show signs of hatching.
Ryan sat on the beach, cradling the Pokémon Egg. Lillie came over curiously, wondering what kind of Pokémon would emerge from Ryan's egg.
The Pokémon Egg gradually cracked, and the white light faded. A small green Pokémon appeared before Ryan. He lifted it with some difficulty, marveling at how Ash could seemingly carry his Larvitar so effortlessly in the anime.
That's right—this Pokémon was a Larvitar, and Ryan knew from the shows he'd watched that Ash would encounter one in the future too. But thinking of how easily Ash had carried his Larvitar, Ryan was amazed by the protagonist's apparent superhuman strength.
Pokémon: Larvitar
Level: 1
Gender: Male
Height: 60cm
Weight: 72kg
Ability: Guts
Moves: Pursuit (Egg Move), Bite, Leer
This was a healthy young pseudo-legendary with excellent potential. Ryan stroked Larvitar's head and the small horn protruding from it, thinking that with proper care, this Pokémon could become a dominant Tyranitar capable of commanding sandstorms. Since Ryan had connections who could help him obtain a Tyranitarite, he could consider having it participate in future tournaments.
The little creature happily jumped from Ryan's arms, rolling and playing on the beach, instinctively beginning to kick up sand. However, Mewtwo's psychic power gently suppressed the emerging sandstorm.
Ryan couldn't help but admire the natural instincts of such a high-potential Pokémon, impressed by Larvitar's innate understanding of its Sand Stream ability. This was definitely a premium specimen.
He carried the playfully energetic Larvitar to lunch, making sure to prepare additional food for the little creature. Larvitar were known to consume soil and minerals—they needed to eat nearly a mountain's worth of earth before evolving into Pupitar.
Ryan had researched specialized nutrition supplements for Ground-type Pokémon. High-quality mineral supplements were available from Pokémon specialty stores, enriched with the nutrients that rock and ground types needed for healthy development.
He purchased several bags of premium mineral supplement mix designed specifically for Larvitar, along with calcium and iron-rich additives. The supplements would promote healthy growth while providing the earth-based nutrition Larvitar required.
Ryan set up a feeding area on the estate's terrace where Larvitar could consume its specialized diet. He also had some of the mineral mix spread in the garden areas to help the plants grow more robustly while giving Larvitar natural foraging opportunities.
