Chapter 9 - Chapter 9- Arrival

It had been nearly a month since I woke up in this world, and I'd been dreading this exact day. The day the lip-biting, vampire-obsessed heroine of the original story finally arrived in Forks.

The month leading up to it had been… quiet, in a way. Aside from Jacob dropping by a couple of times to hang out, and my trips into town for groceries or little things the house still needed, I'd kept myself away from everyone else. Faces blurred, days blurred, and I found myself moving through them as if I were playing house in someone else's life.

And that night in the forest..the glowing eyes I thought I saw watching me from the trees hadn't repeated. Maybe it was a mistake, a trick of the rain and the wind. Or maybe I'd imagined it, my brain scrambling for drama in a town that looked far too normal for what I knew was coming. Either way, I hadn't seen them again, and I tried to bury the memory somewhere dark and dusty.

Right now, I was sitting in the living room, dressed in black jeans and a crisp white long-sleeve top, my hair loose around my shoulders. Casual, but put together. Charlie had gone to pick Bella up from the airport in his faithful police car, and I was left staring at the clock, listening to the rain tapping against the window.

Any moment now.

I drummed my fingers on the armrest. You can do it, Amara. You've literally died once before. Meeting Bella Swan cannot possibly be worse than that.

The crunch of tires on gravel and the groan of a car door reached my ears. My stomach dropped. Showtime.

I pushed myself up and walked to the door. Smile. Be normal. Don't scare her off by announcing you know her love life is doomed to glitter and wolves.

The cruiser door slammed shut. I pulled open the front door just in time to see a pale, brown-haired girl climb out. She looked exactly as I remembered from the movies slightly lost, a little awkward, and of course, already biting her lip.

"Bella, this is Amara, your cousin," Charlie said, proud as if he'd just introduced two prize horses. "Amara, this is Bella."

"Hi," Bella said softly, eyes widening as she took me in.

I gave her a polite smile. "Hey. Welcome to Forks."

Her gaze flicked over me again, and then yep. There it was. Lip-bite number two. I had to stop myself from sighing. God, she's going to chew that poor lip raw.

We headed inside, Bella trailing just behind Charlie. The moment she crossed the threshold, her eyes darted around the living room, lingering on the new curtains, the throw pillows, the warm glow of the lamp.

"Wow," she said. "This… looks really nice."

Charlie, who had clearly been waiting for this exact reaction, grinned. "That's all Amara. She decorated everything. Even did your room."

Bella froze, a little overwhelmed. "Oh. Uh. Thanks."

Her voice was so small I almost missed it.

I waved it off, amused. "It's fine. I didn't know your exact taste, so I just guessed. Don't worry, no wolf posters."

Charlie chuckled at that, though Bella's brows furrowed like she wasn't sure if she was being teased or not.

"Come on," Charlie said, gesturing toward the stairs. "Let me show you your room."

As they went upstairs, I flopped onto the couch, shaking my head. Those two are so awkward it's painful. And honestly, if she bites her lip one more time, I might hand her ChapStick as a welcome gift.

After a little while, Charlie came downstairs, looking both proud and relieved. "She loved her room," he said, voice softening. "Said it was… perfect."

I raised an eyebrow from the couch, smirking. Of course she did. Who wouldn't love it? I basically turned this place into a cozy little Pinterest board… before Pinterest existed.

In the movie, Bella had spent her first day unpacking, noticing the little things Charlie had prepared for her her computer, her room, and eventually the big surprise outside: the old truck. With that in mind, I glanced out the window, half-expecting Jacob to appear any second now, already hovering around like the neighborhood watch.

Charlie clapped his hands together. "Alright, now that she's settled, we can show her the rest of the house. Oh, and her truck's outside."

I almost laughed aloud. Ah yes, the infamous rusty chariot that's supposed to charm teenage girls and spawn lifelong crushes.

Charlie's phone buzzed. He glanced at it, then grinned. "And just so you know, Jacob will probably swing by soon. Can't keep him away from the truck."

I tilted my head, raising an eyebrow. "Perfect. More teenage chaos, coming right up."

A few minutes later, the familiar rumble of tires announced Jacob and Billy. The truck rolled into the driveway, bringing that "we've got this" energy that only teens with something to prove could radiate.

Charlie stepped forward first, a wide smile on his face. "Jacob! Billy! Good to see you both."

I followed behind, arms crossed, pretending to be nonchalant, though I couldn't help glancing at the truck gleaming in the morning light. My eyes swept over the rusty pickup, parked perfectly in front of the house thankfully, Rob hadn't gifted me anything ridiculous like this. A small, smug smile tugged at my lips.

Bella emerged from the house, her eyes widening at the sight of the truck. She hesitated for a moment, then took a small step toward me. "I… really like my room and all of this. Thanks, Amara."

"Don't worry about it," I replied smoothly, keeping my grin casual. Go ahead, admire the curtains, the throw pillows, the perfectly coordinated chaos I've imposed. Silent victory is mine.

Jacob hopped out of the truck and immediately froze, his gaze locking on Bella. He stiffened mid-step, ears metaphorical or maybe not twitching nervously like a cartoon puppy caught in headlights. His face flushed an alarming shade of red.

"Oh my God," I muttered under my breath, barely able to contain my amusement. He's literally turning into a puppy. This is too easy.

Billy, leaning against the truck casually, stifled a laugh. "Yep. Classic Jacob."

I turned back to Jacob, grinning. "Hey… you brought the truck, huh?"

He scratched the back of his neck, still flustered. "Yeah… Charlie wanted you ...uh, Bella...to have it. Thought it'd be… nice."

I stepped a bit closer to get a better look at the vehicle. The truck scream help, the chrome accents catching the dim morning sun, and Bella's eyes followed every detail, sparkling. She stepped closer, hand brushing along the hood, then nervously bit her lip.

Thank God Rob didn't give me a truck like this, I thought, letting out a quiet sigh of relief. I didn't need more flashy things complicating my life. And yet… I couldn't help but feel a little pang of respect for Bella for driving this thing . But She is also very lucky to have Charlie as a dad. Even with all her teenage angst and lip-biting drama, she's got someone who genuinely cares.

Bella turned toward Jacob, fidgeting with her hands, cheeks pink. "Thank you… for bringing this," she said softly.

Jacob blinked, stunned. "I… it's… no problem. Charlie said I should make sure it's all ready for you."

Bella smiled faintly, biting her lip again. "I… I really appreciate it."

Classic Bella, acting all flustered, I thought, smirking. She didn't even notice Jacob's puppy-like state, too absorbed in her new truck.

I leaned toward Jacob, whispering just loud enough for him to hear, "You look adorable. Careful, or you might start drooling."

Jacob turned crimson, sputtering, "I-I'm fine!"

Billy chuckled from behind him, arms crossed. "Yep. Classic Jacob."

"Dad… not now," Jacob muttered under his breath, still mortified.

Charlie, unfazed by the awkward puppy drama unfolding, clapped his hands together, a proud grin on his face. "Alright, everyone. Let's get inside. Time for a little game-watching and food. Amara, you can supervise the chaos if you want."

Jacob groaned inwardly, still red-faced, trying to act "cool" as always. I couldn't resist one more jab. "Careful, puppy. Try not to trip over your own feet while impressing Bella."

Jacob shot me a glare, part annoyed, part amused. I chuckled quietly to myself. Billy, sitting in wheelchair, smirked and muttered something about Jacob's 'puppy eyes' but didn't press it.

I stepped aside as Charlie opened the front door, gesturing for everyone to go in first. Bella, Jacob, and Billy moved through the doorway, and I lingered a moment on the driveway. The crisp morning air, the rusty old pickup, and the neat, silent streets of Forks felt almost peaceful.

Maybe, just maybe, this world isn't all chaos yet, I thought, letting myself breathe in the calm. At least for now.

With a deep breath, I closed the door behind us. Together, we stepped into the house, the morning sunlight filtering through the windows and glinting off the polished floors. Inside, everything felt alive, yet calm a strange, comforting contrast to the flustered chaos of the driveway.

And so it begins, I thought, letting the front door click shut behind us. The truck, the awkward puppy, the lip-biting girl it was all just the start.
