Chapter 14 - New discoveries

Oryen returned to the cottage late at night buried in her thoughts. She had missed her job at the castle because she went to dig in information on how to deal with the gifts Dydra possessed. She was lucky to have remembered the spell at the right time, if not, she might not be currently present. In her old age, she never believe the myth was true, till she saw it with her two eyes. How could the girl possess something so great? It must be inherited from her parents, because there's no way a common witch could possess such power. For a witch to have such power, each of the parent must be from two great covens, judging by her dark skin, ocean-blue eyes, and red-brownish hair, she must be with the Okitu coven. From what she's learned over the years, there are only two covens, the Okitu and the Inui, that possess remarkable powers, together they balance nature by splitting the powers. One coven controls the natural things, while the other controls the supernatural. They must be united when doing magic if not the darkness in the supernatural realm will take over the Okitu coven, intoxicating them with dark magic, there by turning them evil. Knowing they couldn't summon all the members whenever magic needed to be performed, the elders of each clan came together, enforcing a rule. Darkness must be with light, and light must be with darkness. In other words, they were all divided into a pairs, one from the Okitu and the other from the Inui, that way they would keep balance. No one was allowed to be alone, otherwise their magic will be fluctuating. She was part of the Inui, and the Inui clan were known for their snow-white skin, raven hair, and ocean-blue eyes, while the Okitu were known for their chocolate skin, red-hair and ocean-blue eyes. Her Okitu was murdered years ago by the a night creature, ever since then, the power of her magic reduced and eventually became unstable. That's why the spell she casted on the wood-covered book backfired, she wasn't stable enough. She could only castle little spells like teleportation, illusions and so on. No matter how powerful a witch is, without each other, he or she can't perform powerful spells. That's why she went out in search of answers for why a young witch who hasn't mastered or perform any spell was able to lift her up in the air, and from the looks of it, if she hadn't casted the spell, the girl might have finished her. Plus, the young witch had excess ache in her stomach, which wasn't normal.

Oryen feet lightly touched the cold wooden floor, earning soft creeks from below. She stood in front of the room she had placed the young witch, her hand rose, and she pressed her palm on the oak door, trying to sense the position of the girl through feeling her energy. A frown formed on her face as she sensed Dydra close to the door.

Did she know she was coming ? She would have to take her by surprise. With that thought in mind, she snapped her fingers and she vanished, appearing in the room. She expected to be greeted with screams from Dydra, but that did not happen. Instead, the room was quiet, with light snores escaping Dydra's lips. Oryen gaze soften and she went to the gril, whose back was against the door, with head on her knee, supported by her arms. Squatting to her level, Oryen gentle hand reached out to pick her up, but her weight was too much for the old lady. Then a thought pass through her mind, Dydra is a Okitu and she's an Inui, that means she can perform powerful spells. With that thought in her mind, she gently let go and muttered words under her breath. Almost immediately, Dydra's body began to float in the air, through all this, she was still in a deep slumber. With hand motions, Oryen placed the young witch on the bed gently, tucking her in.

Oryen was about taking her leave, when she heard whispers escaping the girl's lips. Was she awake? Oryen leaned in, placing her ear close to the girl's lips.

"No. No no no, not again." Dydra's voice was filled with panic and fear. Her body vibrated with sweat emerging from her skin. Her face was squeezed, as her heart whelmed up and down. Oryen's heart melted. The girl was having a nightmare.

Pulling away, she placed her palm on the sleeping girl's forehead, shut her eyes and casted a spell. Her spell came into action, causing the words the young witch muttered seize, her breathing became even, and her facial expression settled. With a gentle kiss on her forehead, Oryen blew few candles, added wood to the burning fire in the fireplace before taking her leave.
