Chapter 89 - A Witch In Flight

Dydra found herself standing in darkness.

It was not the gentle darkness of night, nor the comforting dimness before dawn. This darkness was endless and depthless, stretching beyond sight and swallowing even the sound of her breathing. For a moment she remained still, listening, as if the void itself might answer her unspoken questions.

She turned slowly to her left, then to her right.

"Hello?" she called.

Her voice traveled outward and returned to her in soft echoes, thinner than before, as though even sound struggled to survive in this place.

She sighed quietly. Another dream. Another one of those strange wanderings her magic forced upon her. She no longer panicked when they came; she had grown accustomed to waking in places that did not exist.

Still, her heart braced itself for what would follow.

Would her grandmother appear again? Or would the darkness twist into those familiar crimson eyes and cold smiles?

At the thought of vampires, a faint chill crept up her arms.
