Pauline's POV
Windsor ran her fingers through her hair, tension radiating from every muscle in her body. "The situation has only stabilized because Zion and the faction leaders have been containing the threat within our territory. Even so, it remains incredibly challenging. We believed the worst was behind us for months, but they've returned with a vengeance. Now they're proving far more difficult to manage, not just due to their increased numbers, but because of these new characteristics they've developed."
"What kind of characteristics?" I pressed, my brow furrowing with concern.
Windsor's shoulders sagged as she exhaled heavily. "I struggle to put it into words. It's as if these rogues are undergoing some sort of transformation."
My teeth caught my lower lip as my mind began racing down dark paths.
Rogues transforming? This was completely foreign territory for me. None of the ancient texts I'd discovered at Ginny and Caesar's home had ever mentioned such a phenomenon.
