Pauline's POV
The spell shattered the instant we heard rustling from the nearby bushes. Every muscle in my body went rigid while Logan moved with lightning speed, launching himself from the water to investigate the source of the disturbance.
My heart hammered against my ribs as I watched him approach the undergrowth with predatory caution. But as he reached the bush and crouched down, his posture shifted from alert to gentle. When he straightened, he was holding something small and white in his cupped palms.
A bunny. A tiny, snow-white bunny.
The breath I'd been holding escaped in a whoosh, and all the tension drained from my body at once. Logan turned toward me, cradling the delicate creature against his chest.
