The lunch spread before us felt like something from a dream I never dared to have. Warmth radiated from every corner of the dining room as we gathered around the weathered wooden table. The rich aroma of herb-crusted chicken and garlic-infused vegetables filled the space, mingling with the sound of genuine laughter and easy conversation.
This was what family felt like.
Jelly perched beside me, her tiny fingers working through her mashed potatoes while she carried on animated conversations with her food. Across from us, Jade continued her mission to ensure everyone's plate stayed full, pressing fresh dinner rolls into our hands despite our protests. Zamari caught every opportunity to tease Zion about some muttered comment, while even Scarlett seemed to shed her usual guardedness, cradling her steaming mug with something approaching contentment.
The lightness of it all struck me with unexpected force.
