Logan's POV

My gaze drifted without permission, tracking Pauline as she settled beside Windsor at the far table. Windsor was supposed to be the one catching my attention tonight. Hell, she was the reason I'd agreed to come to this charity gala in the first place.

Smart, fierce, never backing down from a fight. Everything that should have mattered to me. Everything that reminded me of what I'd lost.

But Windsor might as well have been invisible now.

Every instinct I possessed zeroed in on Pauline instead.

She looked different tonight. Gone was the fragile waif I'd first encountered months ago, all sharp angles and hollow spaces where a woman's curves should live. This version of her made my pulse stutter.

Her face had softened, cheeks full and glowing with health. Those eyes though, Christ, those eyes hadn't changed one bit. Still that piercing blue that seemed to see straight through every wall I'd built.

Still looked at me like she could read my damn thoughts.
