Emily woke to find Alexander already dressed in one of his power suits—the kind he wore when he was about to make deals or destroy competitors. He was standing by the windows with his phone to his ear, speaking in rapid Mandarin to someone who clearly wasn't used to being called at 6 AM.
"What's going on?" Emily asked, sitting up and wrapping the silk sheet around herself.
Alexander glanced at her, and his expression shifted—softening in that way that only happened when he looked at her. He ended his call abruptly and crossed to the bed, sitting beside her.
"I'm making a purchase today," he said, his hand moving to tuck a strand of hair behind her ear. "And I need you to come with me."
"A purchase of what?"
"You'll see." His smile was mysterious, almost playful. "Get dressed. Something elegant. We're going to have an audience."
