Do it if you want to.
Hayashi Maki decided that as soon as class ended, he'd go to the office to ask Kirisu Mafuyu for approval to start a club—and to get a clubroom assigned. Lovely.
But first, he needed to run it by his angel, Mahiru.
So—
Right after finishing her chat with Yuigahama and returning to her seat, Shiina Mahiru's phone buzzed.
She opened it. A certain troublemaker had texted.
Hayashi Maki: "Mahiru, I've decided to start a club. Will you join?"
Mahiru arched a brow and typed with pale, nimble fingers:
Mahiru: "What kind of club?"
Hayashi Maki: "The Offline Game Club—focused on making games, plus light novels and manga."
Mahiru: "What a powerful otaku vibe. So you are a hardcore otaku."
Hayashi Maki: "Please refer to me as a creative otaku. Or Maki-sensei."
Mahiru: "Fine, Maki-sensei. I'll join."
Could she not join? What if this guy set his sights on other girls—say, Yuigahama Yui and her not-inferior-to-mine big bust?
Mahiru figured she'd better keep an eye on him.
Hayashi Maki: "Long live the angel! Meet me after class so we can go to the office together. I also invited the girl in front of me, Kato-san, to join."
Mahiru frowned.
Kato? Who? We have someone like that in our class? Why do I have zero memory of her?
She glanced back—and by coincidence locked eyes with Kato Megumi.
"So that's Kato-san? She's pretty cute… so why don't I remember her?"
Mahiru muttered under her breath, a twinge of jealousy rising.
That bad man wouldn't invite a girl for no reason. There was only one explanation.
He wanted to get handsy with Kato!
Clearly, joining his club was the right call. Otherwise, who knew—Kato's belly might start growing without Mahiru even noticing… and then—bam—baby on the way!
Flushing at the shameless thought, Mahiru bit her lip and shot him another text.
Mahiru: "About Kato-san—tell me exactly how you two met. Otherwise… don't touch me tonight."
Hayashi Maki: "Yes, Mahiru-sama. I will report truthfully, no omissions!"
His clownish reply made the sulking Mahiru laugh despite herself, and he began typing out the story of how he met Megumi.
After class, Mahiru couldn't stop staring at Megumi.
"Um… Shiina-san, is there something on my face?" Megumi asked, a bit uneasy.
Mahiru asked, curious, "Kato-san, is it true you and Maki-kun have sat front-and-back since elementary school?"
"Yes. I have photos. We were front and back for choir too."
Megumi calmly pulled up a picture on her phone and handed it over.
Mahiru took one look—yup. Kato-chan, mouth open in a singing pose, cute as a button. Behind her stood a very green, boyish Hayashi Maki.
So that's what Maki-kun looked like as a kid? Adorable!
"Kato-san, could you send me this photo?"
"Uh… I…"
"Please?"
Mahiru clasped her hand, big doe eyes locked on Megumi.
Instant defeat.
No one could withstand the Angel's pleading gaze. Megumi caved.
Mahiru beamed at the photo. With that, she had no complaints about Megumi joining. Join away—no way was Mahiru losing to her.
…
Faculty Office
Kirisu Mafuyu glanced at the club application on her desk, one brow lifting.
"'Offline Game / Novel / Manga Club'?"
"Exactly," Hayashi Maki said confidently, stepping forward. "A club focused on game development, light-novel writing, and manga adaptation."
Kirisu rolled her eyes. "I can read, thanks. This is basically a baby startup. You sure this is the path you want?"
"I'm sure. So please, Kirisu-sensei—be our faculty advisor."
With an advisor, they could apply for a clubroom—and tap into school club funds.
Kirisu fixed him with a cool stare. "You're sure this won't hurt your grades?"
"Nope. Why would it? We study to get good jobs after graduation. My passion is making light novels, games, and manga. If I can chase that passion and make a living, that's moving toward my dream."
"…Fine. Don't make me regret this. I'll be your advisor—but on one condition: your grades don't drop. At least not by much. If I catch you slacking, I'll shut the club down."
As year rank #1 and #2, Mahiru and Maki were very much on her radar. Stellar students also made her look good, after all.
"No problem. We agree!"
Hayashi Maki, Shiina Mahiru, and Kato Megumi answered in unison.
Megumi was mid-pack, but with Maki and Mahiru around, improving shouldn't be hard.
Once approved, Maki got his own clubroom. At lunch, he took Mahiru and Megumi to clean it up.
Having a clubroom made everything easier.
Plenty of chances to make a move on Mahiru…
As Maki's wicked thoughts stirred, Megumi felt a little unsettled. She hadn't expected the other member to be the class angel adored by every boy and liked by every girl—Shiina Mahiru.
Those two definitely had something going on. And if she wasn't mistaken, the way Mahiru looked at Hayashi-kun was… very gentle.
…
While Maki was tidying the new clubroom, Yukinoshita Haruno sat at her sister's hospital bedside.
Holding Yukino's hand, she smiled softly. "Just a little longer, Yukino. After tonight, you'll be healthy again."
She'd made up her mind to offer herself to the demon. Stories and fairy tales painted demons as bad news—but if he could heal Yukino, she'd do anything.
And if that "demon" truly saved Yukino… then he wouldn't be a demon at all.
He'd be the god who saved them both.
