Simon no longer paid attention to Crystal Peak and continued forward, reaching the dilapidated house at the bottom of the cliff.
Upon closer inspection, he found it difficult to define whether this was a house or not; formally, it couldn't be called a house—it was just a hollow stone sphere with a broken doorframe, much like a cave.
However, functionally, calling it a house was fine, at least it was more respectable than a bridge underpass.
Light seeped from inside, and Simon entered, finding the interior spacious.
Long candles were scattered everywhere on the ground, piled up like bushes, somewhat overwhelming to the eye.
The faint light from these candles couldn't dispel the darkness, only creating a warm-toned environment.
Tattered curtains hung from the ceiling, quite large in scale, suggesting that perhaps this place once had a luxurious appearance.
In the darkness at the back of the house, a pair of large, round eyes gleamed.
Simon took a few steps forward, and with a "WeeLee" sound, a strange fellow emerged and sat down.
He wore a large cloak, and his pale green carapace on his head was thick and wide, resembling a rice cooker.
A pair of antennae swayed gently, and he was completely wrapped in the cloak and carapace, revealing only a pair of large eyes and short legs.
"Hello," Simon greeted him actively.
"Hello, I am a Confessor, my name is Gigi.
I can help people recover from their regrets; who in this world doesn't have some stains?"
Simon wondered, can the protagonist save?
In the game, there are three modes.
In normal mode, the protagonist can revive upon death, with chairs serving as save points.
The death penalty is losing all geo and having a third of the mask's soul capacity reduced.
Only by defeating the shadow of the past life can the geo be retrieved and the mask restored.
Since revival after death occurs at a chair, and chairs are scarce, traveling to the death location might lead to accidents.
In such cases, one can go to Dirtmouth to find Confessor Gigi, give him a rancid egg, and he will summon the shadow of the past life.
Excluding the special Godseeker mode, in another mode, Steel Soul, the protagonist has only one life, and death results in a broken save file.
Confessor Gigi will not appear; instead, there will be Jeen, the Steel Soul, like a pure silver statue.
Simon's imagination ran wild; if the protagonist could save and revive, he would just go home, wash up, and sleep.
Perhaps when he woke up, The Radiance would already be beaten to death.
However, reality was not that simple, and Simon could only confirm with the Little Knight himself.
Simon stopped his brainstorming, sat cross-legged in front of Gigi, and started chatting.
"Can you help me see what regrets I have?"
"Of course, let me look into your eyes.
Hmm, you regret not waking up sooner, otherwise you could have protected a healthy little life."
Simon was stunned; could he really see that?
And it wasn't about recovering past life power, but genuinely recovering from regret?
Gigi's voice was clear, "As a service, I can help you save that child.
That's what you want, isn't it?
Ah, but I'm starving, perhaps you could share some food with me?
I've slept for so long, and now my appetite has been awakened."
Simon was amazed; was this real or fake?
Was he a deity?
Had Gigi directly become a wish-granting master?
Of course, he had to try.
Sly should have rancid eggs, and since he had no geo now, getting one on credit would be good.
"Please wait! I'll be right back." Simon instantly teleported to Sly's shop and blurted out, "Give me a rancid egg!"
"Oh, you want a rancid egg?
That'll be sixty geo." Sly's eyes lit up at the prospect of business.
"No, no, no, my dear Nailmaster, you should be giving me geo." Simon calculated that he only had thirty geo, so he had to resort to a trick.
"Why!" Sly was not just surprised; he was utterly dumbfounded.
"Look, I need the rancid egg to treat that egg, and that egg is part of your quest.
Now, if the egg is healed, the quest is completed, and you can receive the reward for free.
Shouldn't you contribute something?
If not effort, then an item!" Simon also experienced the thrill of being a cunning merchant.
Sly shook his head, "One thing at a time; the rancid egg and the quest must be calculated separately."
Simon sighed; this bug's stubbornness was completely unassailable.
He imagined himself as a skilled assassin in the marketplace, if he missed one strike, then... never mind.
"Alright, I'll go raise some geo."
He went out, intending to go to Crossroads to mine some geo spheres, but unexpectedly, he saw someone.
A pristine white mask, symmetrically elegant horns, a sharp Nail, and an adorable appearance.
It was the Little Knight.
He emerged from the station and sat on a bench by the road, looking very tired.
Simon walked over to greet him, opening his mouth several times but not knowing what to say.
All his emotions surged, and he knew his expression must be strange, but thankfully, the mask covered it.
The Little Knight got off the bench; his height was about the same as Simon's, allowing them to look at each other directly.
Simon softly said, "Hello."
The Little Knight's dark eye sockets stared at Simon, waiting for him to continue.
"You seem to be a skilled warrior, little one.
Want to buy Charms?
I'll sell them to you cheap."
Simon took out the Glowing Womb and the Gruz Charm and placed them in the Little Knight's hand.
The other's hand was made of pure void matter, like black, soft jelly.
"That'll be sixty geo."
The Little Knight counted out sixty geo from a bulging pocket under his cloak and handed it to Simon.
Simon took a deep breath, "Are you free?
I'll come to you later to discuss some matters, please don't rush off, it's about the seal."
The Little Knight remained calm, showing no emotional fluctuations.
He sat back on the bench, lowered his head, and began to doze.
Simon, with a heavy heart, bought the rancid egg and then took the insect egg to Gigi.
Confessor Gigi emerged, sat up straight, and took the rancid egg and insect egg.
"Hmm... I will enjoy this little dish.
Now, as agreed, we shall begin the ritual."
A pair of slender arms extended from under the cloak; Gigi's hands were like calligraphy brushes, without five fingers.
His arms swayed like water celery in a turbulent stream, and strange, chanting sounds came from his mouth.
Streams of orange-red light drifted from the insect egg, gathering into a ball, like a balloon.
Gigi retreated into the shadows until Simon broke the infection balloon, then he re-emerged.
"Oh, oh, oh, your regret has been recovered, what a good result."
Simon bowed deeply in thanks, then picked up the insect egg and left.
