Late in the afternoon, Min stepped outside to place a small arrangement on the shop's front display. The autumn breeze carried a crisp bite, tugging gently at his sleeves. He leaned down to adjust the flowers when a voice called softly behind him.
"Beautiful work, as always."
Min froze. Slowly, he straightened and turned—only to find the stranger standing just a few steps away.
"You…" Min's voice wavered.
The man smiled, smooth and calm. "Don't look so startled. I only stopped to admire your flowers."
Min's heart thudded nervously. He glanced back toward the shop door, half-expecting Kei to appear. But it remained closed.
The stranger stepped closer, his eyes narrowing slightly. "You have a delicate touch. These blooms… they almost look alive under your hands."
"T-thank you," Min said quietly, trying to remain polite. "But if you'd like to buy something, the shop is open—"
"I'm not here for the flowers." The man's voice lowered, carrying an edge. "I came for you."
Min's breath caught. His fingers curled against his sleeves as unease spread through him. "Me? Why?"
The stranger tilted his head, as if amused by the question. "You're interesting. Different. It's rare to find someone who draws people in without trying."
Before Min could respond, the shop door burst open. Kei stepped out, his gaze sharp and unyielding as it landed on the man.
"Step back," Kei ordered, his voice cold.
The man chuckled softly. "Protective, aren't you?" He raised his hands lightly, as if to show he meant no harm. "I was only talking."
Kei moved to stand beside Min, his stance firm. "You've talked enough. Leave."
For a brief moment, the man's smile faltered, replaced by something darker—something that made Min's chest tighten. Then, just as quickly, he slipped back into his smooth composure.
"As you wish." He bowed slightly, his eyes flicking to Min one last time before turning away.
The moment he disappeared down the street, Kei exhaled slowly, his hand brushing lightly against Min's arm. "Are you alright?"
Min nodded, though his heart was still racing. "Y-yes… thanks to you."
Kei's jaw tightened. "Don't step out alone again. Not until this is over."
