Chapter 21 - Ambush

Aaron's POV

The award ceremony was brief but grand. All Might stood tall at the center of the stage, gold medals glinting under the stadium lights. His booming voice carried across the crowd as he congratulated us all, his trademark grin shining just as bright as the medals themselves.

I accepted mine with a polite nod. The cheers were loud, but my mind was elsewhere — still replaying that match with Shinso and the way Clear Mind had taken over.

All Might gave a short, heartfelt speech about determination, growth, and what it truly meant to be a hero. Then, with a final "PLUS ULTRA!" echoing across the stadium, the ceremony ended, and we were dismissed.

Hours later, I found myself standing before a door. The smell of antiseptic lingered in the air. I raised my hand, knocked twice, and stepped inside.

Shinso lay on the bed, bandaged and bruised. His violet eyes shifted toward me, emotionless at first.

"What do you want here?" he asked flatly.

"Nothing much," I said quietly. "I just wanted to apologize for injuring you this badly."

His expression twitched — confusion, maybe even disbelief.

"I never intended to hurt you that gravely," I continued. "I… lost control. It wasn't supposed to happen that way. But still, I'm sorry."

For a moment, silence hung in the air. Then Shinso looked away, scratching the back of his head awkwardly. "It's alright. Accidents happen. You don't need to apologize."

"Thank you," I said, relieved. Then, after a pause, I added, "About your quirk…"

That made him look back up.

"You have a great quirk, but you're too reliant on it. If someone resists it, you're left open. You should train to fight even without using it."

He blinked, surprised by the straightforward advice.

"Your quirk's potential is similar to Aizawa-sensei's. And you know how skilled he is. He could teach you a lot."

I turned to leave, stopping just before the door. "Think about it."

As the door closed behind me, Shinso sat there — not bitter, not angry, but thoughtful.

Third Person POV

The next day, Class 1-A gathered in the main room. Aizawa stood at the front, half-wrapped in his capture scarf and looking as uninterested as always.

"...Today, we'll be doing something special," he said lazily. "You'll be choosing your code names. Your hero names."

Excitement rippled through the room instantly. But before anyone could cheer, Aizawa cut them off.

"After you're done, prepare for the upcoming internships under Pro Heroes. The offers are already in."

He turned and pointed to the large digital board behind him. Rows of names and hero agency offers flashed into view.

At the very top of the list, with a clear lead, was Aaron Black.

"Whoa! Aaron's got more offers than all of ours combined!" Kaminari shouted, half in awe and half in envy.

Aaron leaned back in his chair, pretending to look unimpressed, though a small smirk tugged at his lips.

Just then, the classroom door slid open and Midnight strutted in, cracking her whip with flair. "Alright, my lovelies! Let's see what future heroes can come up with!"

The naming session was chaotic and lively. Laughter filled the room as students came up with cringy, cool, or downright bizarre ideas. Bakugo's suggestion, of course, got denied — repeatedly — by Midnight's sharp tongue.

When it was Aaron's turn, the class quieted down. He stepped to the front, calm and confident, flipping his small whiteboard around to show one word:

"Renaissance."

Midnight's eyes widened slightly. "Oh… that's a beautiful name," she said approvingly. "A symbol of rebirth, renewal… a new beginning. It suits you."

Aaron gave a small nod. "That's the idea."

"Renaissance," she repeated, smiling. "A hero who brings people a new beginning."

Time passed, and the students began deciding which agencies to join. Offers were discussed, rumors exchanged, and excitement buzzed through the air.

Aaron scrolled through his long list of offers but stopped at one name: Endeavor.

He didn't choose it because of admiration. He chose it because he knew — the Hosu Incident was coming, and he wanted to be there.

Aaron's POV

Since I was interning under Endeavor, I joined Shoto on his way to the agency.

"Didn't think you'd pick my old man," Shoto said, hands in pockets.

"Well," I shrugged, "he's the strongest hero who offered. Figured I might as well learn something."

Shoto gave a small huff of amusement.

I glanced at him sideways. "Have you come to terms with your other half now?"

He was quiet for a moment before answering, "Yeah. Thanks to you and Midoriya, I've started to accept it. That's also why I chose his agency. It's time I stop running from it."

We arrived soon after, where Endeavor himself stood waiting — arms crossed, flames crackling faintly around his shoulders.

"I didn't expect you to accept my offer," Endeavor said, eyes flicking toward me briefly before focusing on Shoto. "Though I'm glad you did. Both of you, prepare yourselves. We're heading out."

"Where to?" Shoto asked.

"I'll show you what a real hero is," Endeavor said with a confident grin before striding off.

Third Person POV

Elsewhere, in the shadows of a hidden hideout, Shigaraki seethed. The monitors in front of him flickered with the sports festival's replay.

"He ruined my plan…" he hissed, stabbing a knife into a photo — the face on it was unmistakable. Aaron Black.

Just like in the anime Shigaraki had failed to completely bring Stain on his side, so he decided to use him as a bait.

"Make sure they get the news on time," he ordered Kurogiri, his tone low and dangerous.

Kurogiri bowed slightly before disappearing into his portal.

.........

Aaron's POV

The second day of the internship.

We were out on patrol, the sun high above Hosu City. Burnin walked beside us, flames flickering in her green hair as she chatted with Shoto.

Then, one of Endeavor's sidekicks ran up to us, panting. "Sir! We've just received word — the Hero Killer, Stain, was sighted nearby!"

Endeavor's face hardened immediately.

'That's… early,' I thought. In the original timeline, this news wasn't supposed to reach them until after Stain's defeat. Something had shifted.

"Burnin!" Endeavor barked. "Lead the interns. Keep them out of the fight."

He blazed forward, fire trailing in his wake.

We followed from a distance until the screams and sounds of clashing steel filled the air. Around the corner, the Hero Killer stood — crimson-stained blades in hand, heroes lying motionless on the ground.

Endeavor lunged first. But before he could land a hit, a familiar purple mist swirled open midair.

A warp gate.

Two Nomus emerged with monstrous screeches.

"Not good," Burnin muttered, flames flaring up.

But in the chaos, no one noticed the second portal forming — directly above Shoto and me.

I saw it, though.

"Shoto! MOVE!" I shouted, kicking him aside just as a Nomu crashed down where we'd stood, the ground splintering beneath it.

I rolled and skidded backward, my hand already on the hilt of my weapon.

'The hell is going on?!' I thought, heart pounding as the beast's massive shadow fell over me.

This wasn't supposed to happen. The timeline was breaking — and I was right in the middle of it.

"You didn't think you'd get away with it after ruining my plan, did you?"

The voice was venomous — hateful. I turned toward the new portal opening some distance away, violet mist swirling violently.

From it stepped Shigaraki Tomura, his pale fingers twitching with malice. Behind him emerged Kurogiri, calm and composed as ever, followed by the monstrous silhouettes of four Nomus.

The entire battlefield seemed to split in two at that moment.

On one side, the pro heroes and Endeavor clashed with roaring Nomus amidst chaos and fire. On the other side stood me — alone — facing Shigaraki, Kurogiri, and four abominations.

I understood I was their target.

One of the Nomus looked identical to the one from USJ, its brain exposed and eyes hollow. Two others had jagged wings sprouting from their backs, black feathers glinting under the city lights. The last one — tall, hooded, and far more muscular — looked eerily similar to the Nomu Endeavor had fought after All Might's retirement.

Shoto and a few heroes tried to rush to my aid, but Kurogiri extended his dark mist, warping their attacks back toward them, forcing them to defend instead.

"Stay back!" I yelled, my eyes never leaving Shigaraki.

Shigaraki's lips curled into a sinister grin. "Let's see how long you can play hero, Aaron Black."

I exhaled slowly, the faintest smirk forming on my lips. "Well… this'll be fun."

That same grin — the one Shigaraki remembered from USJ — made him tense immediately.

"Kill him," he hissed.

The USJ Nomu lunged forward in a blur, the ground cracking beneath its feet. Its massive fist shot toward me like a cannonball — but the impact never came.

I caught the punch mid-swing, my arm vibrating with force.

"Still not enough," I muttered. I knew without Clear Mind this will be difficult so I used Aerokinesis just some centimeters around my body to gain more speed.

Titan's Pulse + Double Up + Shock Absorption + Aerokinesis

My muscles pulsed with power as Shock Absorption kicked in, neutralizing the Nomu's strength. In one swift motion, I unsheathed my blade with my right hand and brought it down in a clean arc — slicing through its arm like butter.

The limb fell with a wet thud, but the Nomu didn't even flinch. Its arm regenerated almost instantly, and it swung again with its left.

I blocked the hit, countered with a downward slash, and once again cut through flesh and bone. The regeneration repeated — the same motion, over and over — like some grotesque loop of violence.

'He's faster than before,' I thought, sidestepping another blow.

But before I could press the attack, another Nomu — one of the winged ones — dove from above, talons outstretched, aiming straight for my neck.

I twisted away just in time, feeling the rush of air graze my cheek. Sparks of battle crackled around me as the four monsters circled like predators — and in the distance, I could see Shigaraki watching with a manic smile.

The real battle was just beginning.
