"Ding! You have achieved a glorious victory! You have gained experience…"
"Ding! Congratulations, Host! You have obtained…"
"Ding!…"
A series of system notifications pulled Mako back from a dazed state. His ears were buzzing, and stars danced before his eyes. He wanted to speak, but it felt like something was sticking his lips together, preventing him from making a sound.
Seeing that he couldn't control his body, Mako tried to shift his consciousness to his hand, attempting to use it to support himself. However, as soon as his consciousness reached his hand, a sharp pain shot through him, instantly causing him to lose consciousness.
After a while, Mako's consciousness slowly returned. He felt as if someone had approached him. Then, he felt something prying open his glued-together lips. Sweet-tasting liquid flowed into his mouth. After swallowing the sweet juice, he felt his body recover slightly.
This time, Mako didn't recklessly try to control his senses. Instead, he closed his eyes and let his senses sink into his world of consciousness. There, the Light Dragon seemed a bit anxious. Seeing Mako appear, it quickly flapped its wings and flew over, lowering its head and asking:
"Your body seems to have been invaded by some kind of power. This power is full of aggression, but it's alright! I have temporarily suppressed it in your right hand. Fortunately, your consciousness has finally returned to normal, so we can completely eliminate it!"
The Light Dragon's rapid-fire words left Mako completely bewildered. Before he could even ask a question, the Light Dragon transmitted a stream of energy and conscious information. The sheer power of that energy instantly transformed Mako's consciousness into a being of light!
After receiving this energy flow, Mako's consciousness slowly dissipated within the space. Simultaneously, Mako's eyes opened. Then, his body erupted with a brilliant light, startling Moonshadow. Before she could react, the light enveloped the entire room.

At this moment, a wave of cold, dark energy suddenly erupted from somewhere on Mako's right hand. It was as if it had been stimulated, and it frantically expanded, instantly occupying half of Mako's body. It seemed to want to seize control of his body from him. For a moment, Mako felt that his left half was freezing cold, as if it was about to turn to ice. He was too weak and passed out from the shock of this force.
"Boom!"
Mako suddenly burst with powerful energy. Golden light, radiating an irresistible aura, lifted him into the air. Then, a giant angelic figure slowly materialized.
It had massive, pure white wings. The white priestly robes shimmered with golden light. Silver-gray armor, etched with intricate patterns and golden runes, covered the figure. The face beneath the hood was indistinct, adding an air of mystery.
Clutched in its left hand was a judgment sword, ablaze with sky-blue light, appearing incredibly imposing. The giant form, over three meters tall, floated behind Mako. (I never noticed when playing the game, but all the angels in the fifth installment are left-handed.)
The black energy on Mako's body was immediately suppressed by the angel, gradually ceasing all movement. The radiant light energy within Mako's body then generated countless fine rays, which slowly pierced into Mako's right hand, extracting the black energy and drawing it into Mako's body.
"Hahaha! You foolish mortal! Your body is mine now! Such vast power within you is simply... Ugh... Aah... Noooo!..."
Suddenly, a wild laughter echoed in Mako's mind. It seemed that the monster's energy had once again coalesced, attempting to seize control of Mako's body.
At this moment, a completely different blood-red energy erupted from Mako's body. The great angel was forced backward by this force.
"Roar!"
This energy gradually solidified, and a huge Crimson Dragon appeared behind Mako, its bright red scales shimmering with an eerie light, as if they were about to drip blood. Its enormous wings were red and black, making it look like a red dragon at first glance. However, the wings on its back revealed its true identity: this bizarre Light Dragon. Its eyes burned with purple flames.
Its left claw was currently grasping a mass of black energy. Even from a distance, one could sense its fear, a stark contrast to its initial arrogance. This energy was constantly struggling against the Crimson Dragon's grasp, seemingly trying to break free.
The Crimson Dragon sneered and slowly brought the energy closer, staring at it.
"Trash! With your impure bloodline, you dare to try and occupy my master's body? Don't you even consider what you are! Now... damn... body..."
Before the Crimson Dragon could finish speaking, it abruptly transformed into a streak of crimson light and retreated back into Mako's body, taking the black energy with it.
After everything disappeared, the angel's true form finally returned to Mako's side. Its current state was like a robot, seemingly fulfilling its programmed requirements, completely devoid of independent thought.
It placed the judgment sword, which emitted a blue glow, in front of Mako. The blue flames instantly expanded, directly engulfing Mako's body.
Next, the angel stretched out its right hand and yanked the black energy mass out of Mako's body. Then, with a flash of golden light in its hand, a pure light energy enveloped the black energy.
Two energies interacted, canceling each other out, and finally merging into a crimson energy ball. The Guardian Angel raised the ball above its head and slammed it down, directly injecting the energy into Mako's body.
"Ding! Congratulations, Host, for obtaining a new ability, 'Flames of Judgement'. The hero's troops have a 30% chance of dealing holy fire damage in battle."
"Ding! It is detected that the Host's obtained Flames of Judgement ability possesses a certain level of chaos attribute, which is consistent with the Demon Lord's Hellfire ability. The system defaults the hero to obtain the Demon Lord's exclusive skill, completion progress 6/8. Please continue to work hard, Host, and strive to obtain the last 2 race-specific abilities!"
"Ding! Congratulations, Host, for obtaining a new skill, Guardian Angel. The hero will be protected by an angel. This skill will allow the hero to learn all light magic. The specific power of the magic will be based on the hero's light magic skill level."
Mako, awakened by a series of system notifications, slowly opened his eyes. He found himself floating in the air. Before he could feel strange, he instantly lost this ability and dropped to the ground with a thud.
Moonshadow saw Mako fall and quickly ran over, hugging him tightly, and said happily:
"Great! Mako, you're finally alright. You scared me to death, you know! You looked really terrifying just now, I thought you were going to be eaten by that Alien God!"
Mako gently patted her shoulder and said softly:
"I'm fine now, Moonshadow, thank you for taking care of me these past few days! You've really been through a lot!"
"I haven't gone through anything! Mako! You've been the one taking care of me this whole time! This is what I should do, and Leaf said I should properly help you, take care of you, and serve you!"
"Hahaha! Leaf, she..."
"Cough, cough, cough!"
Before Mako could finish speaking, Naksis interrupted him. After feigning a few coughs, he said to Mako:
"My Lord! It's not that this old man wants to disturb you, but your people are all around. Look at this..."
Mako turned his head and saw that almost all the wildlings of Hardship Town had gathered there. The commotion had been too great, and nearly every wildling had witnessed what had happened to Mako.
Almost all the wildlings were looking at Mako with faces full of reverence and fanaticism. If it weren't for the wildlings not having a custom of kneeling, they probably would have already knelt down.
Mako pulled Moonshadow behind him and shouted at the surrounding wildlings:
"Alright! My people! Get back to work! Tonight, to celebrate my recovery, I will hold a celebration! Wolf Fang, you get things ready!"
After speaking, Mako waved his hand for everyone to leave. Then, he pulled Moonshadow back to his house. However, due to Mako's power surge, the roof of the house had been blown off.
With no other choice, Mako had the soldiers arrange a new house. The houses they were currently living in were basically built on the foundations of old buildings in Hardship Town. Mako had kept these empty houses for his system soldiers and subordinates. The wildlings didn't have such good treatment; some were still sleeping in tents.
As soon as Mako entered the newly arranged room, Naksis and the others walked over. They were there to report on their work. During Mako's coma, they had been handling the food, drink, and daily needs of these 30,000-plus people.
After entering, Naksis and the others reported on their work during this period. Although Mako had been in a coma, the transfer of the wildlings had been carried out in an orderly manner.
The first batch of the elderly, the weak, women, and children had been safely sent to Griffon Fortress. Mako had made arrangements for this in advance. Each time people were sent over, Wolf Fang and the others would find some young wildlings to act as sailors. The purpose of this was to let them see the wonders of Griffon Fortress and reduce the chance of rumors.
So now, many wildlings were no longer afraid and were very convinced of Mako's rule. Moreover, they gradually felt the difference between Mako and those nobles in the south. Mako's principle had always been clear rewards and punishments, and he wouldn't order people to kneel at every turn. However, the rules of "no public urination or defecation" and "no robbing people" made many wildlings a little unaccustomed. But since they started eating Black Bread, this uncomfortableness was also thrown to the back of their minds.
Hardship Town had seen the construction of many new houses – both new wooden cabins and stone houses built on the foundations of older structures. Furthermore, a small quarry had been opened in the western mountains, providing stone specifically for these buildings.
Wolf Fang and his people had also installed a batch of Obsidian Daggers on the north and south wooden fences. Both the inner and outer sides of the walls featured specially made obsidian antlers. Now, almost every wildling warrior had an Obsidian Dagger, and to prevent attacks from the wraiths in the Ghostwood Forest, hunting and logging teams operated in groups of twenty.
Over this period, several small northern tribes had begun to flee here. Many of them had been brought here by the wildlings of Hardship Town. For a time, legends about Mako began to circulate among the wildlings.
Even Mans Reid, who had been subjugating tribes of various sizes in Frostfang, heard the news. He dispatched a team ahead of time, intending to deal with the forces stationed in Hardship Town and to find out if anyone had truly knelt before the southern nobles.
The wildlings believed that kneeling before others was a sign of losing their freedom. They would fight for what they needed, they would seize it themselves.
In Mans Reid's view, if the legends were true and someone had begun to submit to the southern nobles, then, in time, more "free people" would join them.
Mans Reid grew up in the Night's Watch. He knew how much the "lords" of the south valued land and population.
