Chapter 145 - The Battle of the Wasteland Village

Some were burned or frozen to death on the spot, while others were covered with black crystals, bleeding profusely, and moving slowly. They were either pushed off the city wall because of their slow speed, or they were trampled to death.

Fortunately, the power of the dragon's breath was not very strong, otherwise, the soldiers on the city wall would likely be wiped out. The city wall was a bit narrow, and the allied soldiers of the Bolton family could not perform well at all.

However, under the roar and shouts of the generals, the soldiers gradually recovered and began to prepare for a counterattack. Heavy crossbows were moved out one by one.

The siege vehicles, pushed by giants, were slowly approaching the city walls. The ground around the Torren's Square was dug with water diversion ditches by the allied soldiers of the Bolton family in advance, the purpose of which was to soften the soil and prevent the siege vehicles from moving forward.

Roose Bolton's initial goal was to hold up the siege equipment, and then use the garrison and cavalry to hold up Marco's advance, constantly consuming the strength of the Valyrian Empire's army.

What Roose Bolton did not expect was that Marco would have these Children of the Forest who could manipulate plants under his command, and in this way, Roose Bolton's greatest reliance was also reduced to nothing.

Due to the harassment of the young dragons, the soldiers on the city wall were unable to concentrate on the battle. In addition, the city wall and arrow tower of Torun Fangcheng were relatively narrow and crowded, which led to the failure of many heavy crossbows to be moved up in time. Because it was determined that the siege equipment could not approach the city wall, many soldiers held small crossbows in their hands, which could not have too much impact on the young dragons.

Although this is the situation now, after suffering two waves of dragon breath attacks, the huge half-body crossbows and lifting crossbows were still moved out of the arrow towers, and the attacks of the huge arrows forced the young dragons to leave the battlefield.

Especially the green dragon of Brindin, it was shot in the tail by a crossbow bolt when it was attacking. This guy was originally thinking of going to take revenge, but it was quickly summoned back by Marco.

Marco had modified the spells of communication and binding so that he could communicate with the dragons and guide their thoughts. In the end, the Valyrians only thot about conquest and enjoyment after they obtained these spells and dragons.

These spells were never properly researched, and over time, more practical spells replaced these original incantations.

Just as Marco was treating the green dragon, a series of shouts of killing came from the direction of the Tolon Square City. At this time, the huge hanging ladder of the siege vehicle had been placed on the crenels of the city wall, and the battle for the city wall officially began.

The walls of the Torun Fortress were a little higher than those of Winterfell, so there was a small slope on the pedals, which increased the difficulty for the soldiers to move forward, but all this was not a big problem for the system soldiers under Marco.

The defenders raised their shields and charged the Bolton soldiers on the walls with their swords. Soon, soldiers with the double city emblem, the crown double ax emblem, and the half-body horse head emblem on their armor and shields poured out of the four towers, and timely contained the offensive of the Valyrian Empire army.

The Bolton family's allied soldiers formed a dense gun formation and advanced toward the Imperial Army step by step, attempting to force them back onto the siege vehicles.

The Defender warriors were using their shields to protect themselves as they continued to push forward. The crossbowmen and archers on both sides were constantly firing arrows, trying to eliminate the other side.

Soldiers were constantly falling from the walls or siege vehicles, either dying instantly or being seriously injured, but neither side retreated and they continued to fight.

However, all of this changed with the addition of the Rope Dan Magner's "Blessing Ceremony". With the blessing of the hero, the system soldiers broke out with powerful attacks, causing the Bolton family's defenders to retreat.

At this time, the cavalry unit outside the city saw the situation here, and also gave up harassing the imperial army, slowly withdrew from the battlefield, and it seemed that they also felt that they could not cause damage to the imperial army.

Seeing the cavalry retreat, the soldiers on the city wall attacked even more vigorously. They seemed to know that this was their last chance. For a time, the imperial army on the city wall did not advance even half a step. This greatly boosted the morale of the Bolton family's garrison, and some people even shouted excitedly.

But it was no use, for Marco's battering ram was already at the gate, and the narrow walls of Torun Square were not designed to accommodate portcullises or other such devices.

Boiling oil, stones and arrows were unable to damage the battering ram below the city, and under the protection of the roof, the battering ram was pushed to the front of the gate.

Torrhen's Square had a wooden portcullis and an iron-bound gate, but being deep in the heart of the north, it had never been fitted with the iron-clad gates that were common in the coastal castles.

This kind of city gate is made by using iron frame as the bone and embedding it on the wooden door. It is also relatively simple to maintain. The wooden fence door is also made to increase the defense.

It was because of the weakness of the gate that Roose Bolton had ordered his men to shore it up with wood and stone, hoping to slow the enemy's advance, but against a ram that took four giants to swing, it seemed to have no effect at all.

Countless stones and arrows fell from the firing holes above the city gate, attempting to stop the battering ram outside the city, but all of this was to no avail, because the city was too small to organize an effective offensive.

Torrhen's Square was not as rich as the Starks, and they could not afford to equip their castle with wildfire and flamethrowers. The most they could do was to stockpile some fish oil and whale oil.

Although the defenders had added a lot of protection, the two city gates of the Torun Fortress could not withstand the terrible destructive power of the battering ram for long. After three heavy blows, the city gates were directly smashed into a huge opening.

The door bar behind the gate was directly smashed, and the wood chips splashed and directly injured several city-guarding soldiers who did not have time to dodge.

Some of the more timid soldiers nearly had heart attacks when they saw the huge battering ram, but it was quickly pulled back out.

Some of the bolder soldiers quickly moved wooden pillars and stones to block the attack, but these actions were stopped by the generals. Soon, under the command of the generals, the soldiers defending the city formed a shield formation.

With Marco's order, the Hydra, the Fire Lord, Van'er, the Rakshasa King, Xun, and the Ancient Tree Spirit, Oak Head, formed a special assault team and rushed to the city gate. The Hydra slammed open the broken city gate and rushed into the castle.

However, just after it rushed into the door, it was greeted by dense arrows and crossbows. The abyssal hydra was instantly shot into a hedgehog. If it was not because it had a strong "regeneration" skill, it would have died on the spot.

Then the soldiers organized a shield formation and surrounded the abyss multi-headed lizard. Although it looked terrible, in the eyes of many soldiers, it was already a dead thing.

However, the injured Abyssal Hydra was quickly replaced by an Ancient Treant, which howled as it charged into the dense ranks of soldiers, the dense arrows doing no damage to it at all.

The Ancient Treant waved its two huge branch arms and struck the front row of soldiers holding shields and spears. Several soldiers in the front row were directly knocked out, and the formation was even more broken.

The huge branches kept wrapping around the soldiers surrounding the treant, making it impossible for them to organize a defense. Just as the defending soldiers were preparing to switch their arrows to flaming arrows.

The soldiers of the Valyrian Empire had already rushed into the gate under the leadership of the Rakshasa King and the Flame Lord. Along with them were four elemental creatures. Some of the Bolton family soldiers subconsciously twitched their hearts when they saw these elemental creatures.

It was as if they had remembered some terrible legend in which the enemies of House Bolton drove immortal monsters to slaughter warriors bearing the flayed man sigil.

Immediately after, the Abyss Hydra, which had basically recovered from its injuries, rushed in. Its huge heads were constantly biting at the enemies attacking it, and it was not afraid of the attacks of the surrounding soldiers guarding the city.

Immediately after that, the water and fire elements attacked. The terrible taste of the ice and fire made the allied soldiers of the Bolton family who were defending the city unable to resist.

To the soldiers defending the city, the Ancient Treants and other creatures would at least roar and wail, but when facing the elemental creatures, they felt like they were fighting against gods.

In the eyes of many civilians and many low-level soldiers, the terrible power of ice and fire is the power that only the old gods can master. They all feel that they are fighting with the gods.

Especially when facing those system soldiers who were not afraid of death, they all felt that they were fighting with the messengers of the gods, and even the savage warriors were very fanatical.

Many in the Valyrian Imperial Army believed they were fighting for the gods, and that if they died in battle they would ascend to the upper world and become part of the celestial realm.

Soon, under the powerful strength of the elemental creatures and the strange skills of the four system soldiers, the soldiers defending the city collapsed. This battle of unequal strength completely extinguished the last hope of the Bolton Allied Forces. The soldiers either knelt down and begged for mercy or fought to the death.

Just as Marco sent troops into the castle to search for Roose Bolton, news came that he had already escaped. According to the prisoners, there was a secret passage in the Dreadfort that connected to the outside. Roose Bolton had already escaped thru the secret passage when the siege vehicle could move normally.

Greywater Lake was a large lake near the Torren's Square, and there was a small dock behind the Torren's Square. The secret passage led to there. When the war began, soldiers and civilians kept walking back and forth between the castle and the small dock, making it impossible for the shapeshifters to track the location of Roose Bolton.

Moreover, when Roose Bolton fled, he left a deaf and dumb servant dressed in his armor to impersonate him. Each time he passed on defense orders thru written notes, until the city was breached and people discovered the problem.

When Marco heard the news, he felt a little regretful. After this lesson, Marco estimated that this guy would be more careful and cautious in the future, and it would be difficult to catch him.

However, Marco was soon distracted by other things, so he simply stopped thinking about it and began to deal with the affairs of Torun Fang City.

First, the prisoners would be gathered up by Marco to repair the Torun Fortress, and Marco would also select some soldiers and generals to return to their family castles with letters of persuasion.

Secondly, Marco will use the unique geographical conditions of Gray Goose Lake to develop aquaculture. Marco had already thot about using the natural advantages of the Children of the Forest to carry out work in various parts of the North.

Finally, Marco will also take the city of Torun as a pilot, where he will open the council and develop more interests, so that the ruling area will produce forces that support Marco, so that he can ensure long-term rule.

Marko made clear his system and laws in the letter of persuasion, but he estimated that these guys should not agree, after all, they had a very comfortable time in the rule of the Stark family, and they would not give up.

These northern nobles were the local emperors of their territories, getting whatever they wanted, and some of the minor nobles in the more remote areas were still retaining the disgusting "right of the first night."

Marco could already imagine their reaction for their golden dragon and land, but all of this was nothing to Marco. Marco had already made the biggest concession, and now it was up to these guys to think about this issue.

After completing these things, Marco sent out the members of the Wolf Spirit Squad to start collecting intelligence and drawing maps. He had been preparing for this matter since he captured Winterfell.

Although the system market in Griffin Castle also sells them, Marco has not yet achieved freedom in gold resources and is unable to pay the expensive fees. Moreover, he does not need to waste too much energy here.

During the time that Marco was resting in the city of Torun, the nobles of the entire Wasteland Village were in a state of chaos. Some people thot that their army had no way to defeat Marco and were already preparing to surrender, while others thot that they should unite the power of all the nobles of Wasteland Village and fight Marco to the death.

Finally, it was Lady Barbary who suggested that they adopt the Dornish method of fighting the Targaryens, and wage a guerrilla war against the Valyrian Imperial Army in the vast hills of the First Men's Tomb, relying on attacking supply lines and dispersing troops to defeat the Imperial Army.

This suggestion was affirmed by most of the nobles, who all hoped to retain their land and soldiers. These guys had ruled this land for too long, and they were reluctant to give up their original noble life.
