Chapter 19 - 019: Can I Go to Your Place?

The two rested for a while.

Once he felt they had recovered enough, Lin looked at Akashiya Moka. "Moka, what should we do next?"

"Hmm, how about the haunted house?"

Akashiya Moka thought for a moment, then looked at Lin expectantly.

"The haunted house it is, then."

Lin smiled and nodded.

With a decision made, the two headed toward the haunted house.

After a short wait, Lin and Akashiya Moka entered the haunted house to begin the attraction.

Akashiya Moka reached out and held tightly onto Lin's arm.

She curiously sized up their surroundings.

There wasn't a hint of fear in her.

Taking in her expression, Lin couldn't help but smile.

It was all within reason.

After all, Akashiya Moka was a yokai, and a top-tier one at that—a vampire.

Normally, she wouldn't be afraid of ghosts like an ordinary person.

She'd be lucky if the ghosts weren't afraid of her.

Besides, some yokai had quite terrifying appearances, and Akashiya Moka must have seen her fair share growing up in the Yokai Realm.

Akashiya Moka wasn't afraid of ghosts, and of course, neither was he.

People are generally only afraid of things they can't understand.

He had feared evil spirits before only because he lacked the ability to deal with them.

Now, he could crush a whole pile of them with a single finger. If he were still afraid of ghosts, it could only be because that's how his code was written.

It was all instinct.

And he clearly didn't have an instinct to fear ghosts.

Since neither of them was scared, the immersion factor of this haunted house trip was practically zero. It was completely uneventful.

After coming out of the haunted house, Lin and Akashiya Moka didn't stop, heading for the next attraction.

Bumper cars.

Carousel.

Pirate ship.

Musical theater.

One attraction after another.

By the time the two arrived at the final attraction, the Ferris wheel, dusk had unknowingly arrived.

The setting sun dyed half the sky red.

Clusters of evening clouds adorned it, making the tapestry of dusk rich and colorful.

The Ferris wheel car slowly ascended.

The afterglow of the sunset sprinkled across Lin and Akashiya Moka, giving them a faint, hazy aura.

Pulling her gaze away from the blood-red sunset, Akashiya Moka looked at Lin, who was sitting beside her.

A light seemed to sparkle in her beautiful, emerald-like eyes.

Gentle as water, and full of tender affection.

"Lin, thank you."

Her voice, gentle and pleasant, was filled with a certain emotion as it sounded out.

"Why are you thanking me?"

Hearing this, Lin looked at Akashiya Moka, feigning confusion.

Akashiya Moka smiled sweetly. "Thank you for taking the time to hang out with me."

"Oh, so it's about that."

A look of realization appeared on Lin's face.

Then he smiled and said, "You silly, we're friends. There's no need to thank me for hanging out together."

"Next time you want to go somewhere, you can always come find me."

As he spoke, he raised his right hand and gently flicked her forehead with his index finger.

"Ah!"

Akashiya Moka let out a little cry, covering the spot where she was flicked with both hands.

But after hearing Lin's words, her heart felt as sweet as if she'd eaten honey, and her face bloomed into a radiant smile.

"You said it, so you have to keep your word."

Then, her brow furrowed slightly as she suddenly thought of something.

Lowering her hands, she held out her right pinky finger and said with a smile:

"Let's make a pinky promise."

She remembered that when humans make an important promise, they seem to link pinkies with the other person to seal the deal.

Their eyes met.

Lin smiled and extended his hand.

"Alright, a pinky promise."

Their two pinky fingers gently hooked together.

"Pinky hook, it's a promise; whoever lies has to swallow a thousand needles."

Their hands swayed back and forth with the words.

It felt like children playing house, and just like that, the first promise between them was made.

About twenty minutes later.

Walking out of the amusement park, Lin looked at Akashiya Moka, who was hugging his arm and seemed to have become even clingier.

"Moka, should I take you home now, or should we find a place to have dinner first?"

"Can we go to your place?"

Akashiya Moka's eyes were filled with anticipation.

"To my place…"

Lin was slightly taken aback.

Looking into Akashiya Moka's eyes, he could seemingly see the hope within them, so he smiled and nodded.

"Alright, let's go."

He didn't seem to have a reason to refuse.

"That's great! Thank you."

Seeing Lin agree to let her come to his home, Akashiya Moka's eyes seemed to light up, and she beamed with joy.

Her smile was as captivating as a flower.

No, she was even more captivating than a flower.

Half an hour passed in a flash.

Nerima Ward. Lin brought Akashiya Moka to his residence.

"This is my home."

Standing on the roadside outside the main gate, Lin said with a smile.

He took out his keys as he spoke.

Sizing up the courtyard of Lin's residence, Akashiya Moka could also tell that his family was quite well-off.

"Welcome to my home. Please, come in."

After opening the door, Lin turned to her and made a welcoming gesture.

"Pardon the intrusi—."

Upon hearing this, Akashiya Moka smiled and was about to say something, but she suddenly had a belated realization.

Her cheeks flushed red, and she hesitated.

"Um, Lin, since I'm suddenly coming over to your house, I hope your parents won't mind?"

"Maybe we should forget it. I can come back another time."

The thought of meeting Lin's parents made her heart race, and she started to panic a little.

She felt an impulse to flee.

Watching the nervous and flustered Akashiya Moka, Lin couldn't help but let the corners of his lips curl up slightly. He smiled and explained:

"It's fine. There's no one else at home. I'm an orphan."

In his fabricated life story, his identity was that of an orphan.

When he was found, he was stark naked, with only a slip of paper bearing the two characters for 'Lin'.

That was why he studied hard, hoping to get into Todai, become a member of society's elite after graduation, and make it big.

All to achieve financial freedom as soon as possible and enjoy a happy life.

"Ah, an orphan?!"

Hearing this, Akashiya Moka's eyes widened in shock.

She clearly hadn't expected Lin's backstory to be like this.

After the shock wore off, she snapped back to reality. Apology and guilt filled her eyes as she looked at Lin cautiously.

"I'm so sorry, Lin. I didn't know."

"Don't worry, I'm fine."

Taking in her expression, Lin gave a carefree smile and placed his right hand gently on her head.

"I've lived like this for so many years, I got over it a long time ago."

"Besides, I have friends like you around me now. Many people care about me and think of me."

"So I feel great right now."

He had been an orphan before transmigration as well.

However, he wasn't abandoned; his parents had passed away in an accident.

Although the memories were a bit fuzzy, his parents' love remained one of the most beautiful things in his heart.

As the saying goes, when in Rome, do as the Romans do.

He had transmigrated to this world and gained a second life.

Of course, he had to cherish it all.

Moreover, as a transmigrator, he would have found it difficult to suddenly accept a new set of parents.

So, the fabricated identity suited his preferences perfectly.

In short, he had no complaints.

Even knowing that this crossover world wasn't safe and was fraught with hidden dangers.

"Lin…"

Looking at Lin's bright, sunny, and carefree smile, Akashiya Moka couldn't help but be a little dazed.

He seemed so dazzling right now.

Especially with the red glow of the sunset sprinkleing upon him.

A certain impulse, which had been temporarily suppressed, couldn't help but resurface from the bottom of Akashiya Moka's heart.

Deep within her green eyes, a faint red light flickered in and out of view.
