Chapter 10 - The First Night Class

I never thought I'd go against my will. Kravitz had informed my father after I told him I wasn't interested in the special class. I had done that for a little moment of glory and honestly, I regretted my action, instant regret. My father sang about the special class until I eventually agreed.

It was a chilly walk to Kravitz place for the night class. The lanky palms danced to the tune of the wind that night, the street light fell on my oily face almost blinding me.

I've heard of kravitz before, elders of the second tier were in awe of him, things he did at such a young age, like discovering the paths to serenity which allowed him to medidate for days in his subconscious. Being in his house for the first time, you'd understand how he was able to get all the time to achieve the milestone that he's gotten.

Kravitz home is enormous, he had everything inside. His granddaddy was very rich, he willed most of his properties to him. His parents are senior second tier members who travel around the world searching for ways to bring the wretched souls to extinct.

The first night class was like an introductory class, Kravitz spoke for more of the class, he demonstrated with his hands, books and drawings of how the wretched souls could bring total chaos to the world if they are not properly contained. My eyes lingered to the mat at the extreme corner of the room, the corner must be his mediating place.

Rex had this look of disgust on his face whenever our eyes met. He never hide his hatred for me and that's probably because of how my father carries me, he just couldn't see what my father bragged about. My father always told members of the second tier that I had to power to bring the chaos called the wretched souls to an end but nobody really supported him on that because I never showed to be what my father believes. Well, not until Kravitz told them of how effortlessly I opened the Liber potentia. Opening the Liber potentia gave me a little bit of fame amongst the students of the purest academy and the second tier members. Everyone started mumbling something whenever I walked passed them.

I was in a rush to leave Kravitz house after the class. I liked how he's totally devoted to the council of the purest, he's really interested in ending every chaos the Wretched souls brought. I was almost at the door when Kravitz called me.

"Rhema, can we see for a minute?" Kravitz asked. I shrugged and mouthed a "yeah" . Rex's face became red with jealousy but he didn't say a word. Sean, Ivy and Ruffy had surprising looks on their faces, faces that said "Why does Kravitz want to see him specially?".

Kravitz took me to his kitchen, the kitchen space looked empty, like Kravitz never cooked.

"How did you do that?" He asked

 "Do what?" I questioned.

" You opened the book with ease, It looked like it took you nothing to open it". He had this face of expectation on, he was keenly interested in knowing how I did it. I didn't know how to explain it to kravitz. I simply opened the book, it felt like opening just any other ordinary book.

"I just flipped the book Open" I said. He didn't seem to believe, more like he was in awe.

"Hmm, we should keep having little talks Rhema. Just me and you". Kravitz said.

 "Why?" I asked

"I'm interested in you" He said.

"Too bad, I like girls" I joked, Kravitz let out a loud laughter, I guess he reacted that way because I didn't look like the funny type. I pointed at the door, Kravitz raised his eyebrows giving me the permission to leave.

I walked into the nights with my headphones on, I was listening to Sir Elton John's I'm still standing. The song gave me a lot of hope about the person I was becoming. I felt a cold hand on mine, I turned back to see Ruffy panting.

"Hey, I've been calling you" she said. I pointed at my headphones which was blipping red lights to indicate it was on. "Oh" she said.

"I had to run to catch up with you" she said.

 "You walk really fast"

"I'm trying to get home quickly" I replied

"You're always trying to get away from us". I looked at Ruffy closely for the first time that night, she was petite, with glaring bright eyes. She has pretty dentition that comes to light when she talked. She has this habit of pushing her hairs behind her ear when she talks. She's pretty.

"People think you're snob. You don't have friends in the council and you are always alone" she said.

"I'm not a snob". I was walking slower now, at her pace. She mostly did the talking that night as well walked home.

"Can we stick together during the night classes? Sean is a fool for Ivy. And Rex and Ivy are like frenemies, those three will stick together. So that leaves me with just you" she said

"Why don't you want to join their clique?" I asked curiously.

"They wouldn't want me. I opened the book with great struggling and my parents aren't really influential members of the second tier, so they wouldn't want me" Ruffy said with a smile. I haven't been paying attention to Council, I never knew that hierarchy mattered in friendship amongst lighters.

"Do you have a friend?" She asked

"Yeah, but she's an ordinary human and we barely talk these days." She looked like she had a question to ask but she didn't want to make things awkward so she didn't.

"Can I have your phone number?" I said, digressing from the conversation we earlier had. For the 7th time that night, she pushed her hairs behind her ears before giving me the number.
