My eyelids felt so heavy that I struggled to keep them open. Breathing felt impossible, as if someone was choking me. I groaned in pain, trying so hard to fight back as I tried to raise my hand, I couldn't.
"What is happening to me?" I wanted to scream out loud, but my voice was faint and weak. "Why can't I move my hand?"
After a moment, I finally forced my eyes open, only to be nearly blinded by the light above my head. It was so bright that I quickly shut my eyes and opened them again, trying to adjust to the glare.
I wrinkled my nose when the sharp smell of bleach hit me. It lingered for a few seconds before I let out a shaky breath.
"Where am I?" I whispered to myself because the last thing I remembered was Madam Ruth and her minions attacking me. "How did I survive?" My eyes drifted across the room until they landed on a figure lying on the couch.
