After that chaotic welcoming event was over. Senior Ed guided me to another room near the one we just exited. The moment I entered the room I was astonished by its sheer size because from the outside it look like the size of a small classroom but inside is twice the size of that. Inside the room there are six desks along with some plants on the corner, a sofa near the door and a staircase going down.
"Alright Arron this will be your desk from now on!" he pointed at the desk near to the plants.
"But before that I need to give you the full context of what our job is. For now sit on this sofa" I followed his instruction and sat down onto the sofa and he began explaining.
"Our team's job is acquire artifacts through an auction legally or get it through other networks, shady or not. But the pointed I am trying to make is that our job put us on constant risk that endanger our lives on the daily. So are you willing to work on this team with the risk in mind" senior Ed tone was serious unlike that one he shows from the welcome event and staring at me with determined eyes.
"I will do my best but before is it possible to transfer to another and what is my starting salary for this job?" I answered the best way I know how.
Senior Ed smile and replied "Yes, it is possible to transfer to another team but you have to wait two months for the transfer to be completed. To answer your second question the starting salary for this is 70,000 aegis that will continues to increase the longer your here on this team because it serve as a testament on how skilled you truly are."
'The starting is 70,000 aegis for this dangerous job. I could apply for a transfer into a team with a low risk but my salary is lower. I have one question' after thinking about it I decided to asked Senior Ed a question.
"There some kind of safety net that eliminate the risk or at least reduce it?"
"Yes, there is...its learning combats skills with me and being accompanied by the ones from the combat teams. That could potentially reduce the risk but it depend on your capabilities and the celestial hunter assigned to you" senior Ed replied.
Hearing Senior Ed's reply I though to myself 'should I permanently stay on this team? being on the other team is more safe but I would no room for growth should I be contempt with that? this world is full of surprises, there is not a single thing that is certain on this world. Sooner or later due to my skill I would encounter danger whether I want to or not. Can I really survive if that happens, then for now I will stay on this team and learn as much as I can. So that I can be at least be prepared for the future.'
"I will stay in this team for now and learn" I declared my intentions to seniors Ed and the others.
"You made your decision. Well then once again welcome to team Arron" he extended his hand for a handshake and I shook his hand.
"Since it is your first day you handle the data and reports with mike for now. Mike I'll leave him to your care!" senior Ed then exited the room together with the three other senior.
"Please take of me senior Mike." I greeted him with a polite and respectful tone as he is my senior.
"A-ah yeah, I will be teaching you about how we make and compiled reports and data." Senior Mike replied awkwardly while not making an eye contact. He turned his back and began to muttered to himself "I can do this. Breathe mike."
'Does Senior Mike have a social anxiety?' that what I concluded based on how he is acting.
"Alright then first I will show how I do report, so watch carefully." He started to reading through all of the documents scattered on his desk and began arranging them in four stacks in quick succession.
'How the hell am I supposed to get something out that? I couldn't even keep up.' I watched in shocked as senior continue to stack up the documents. Knowing I cant learn anything I called out senior Mike. "Um, Senior I can't keep up, can you please slow down a bit."
"S-sorry... ahem, I should have explain how I divide the document. We have four categories that we use and those are white for easy acquisition-difficulty with little to no risk, grey for medium-difficulty acquisition with little to moderate risk. Black for high-difficulty for the moderate to high risk and red for the extreme-difficulty for high-extreme risk and beyond" he explained the meaning behind each of the color represent.
"Additionally those categories also include how the artifact was acquire and other things such as the condition of the artifact, basic description of the artifact ability, ways to counteract it" he added.
"Why do we need to get the basic description of the artifact ability? Shouldn't the other team do that?" I presented a question.
"That's because giving to the other team without a clue what is this or that will expose them to risk. It is our job to act like a kind of a filter on the system so that the other can do their properly." he replied.
The more we talked senior Mike's awkwardness just vanish and he is becoming a reliable senior to my eyes. Each time I have a question or something to clarity he provide easy to understand explanation, with I was able to somewhat help him on the document division and the compilation of the report. That part I was not completely helpless but I still needed quite a bit of help from senior mike to finally finish the data compilation and the reports.
I look the time on my phone and notice that its already evening and senior Ed and the others returned from their mission. hey all look like they been in a fight seeing the bruises all over their faces and arms.
"Welcome Seniors!" I greeted them as they handed over a paper to senior Mike and he started to write a report from that paper. Once he was done he put it on a folder and onto the grey stacks of document.
"Hey, so how was the work? Did you learn anything?" senior Ed asked a question.
"Yes. a lot thanks to senior Mike help I somewhat manage to help with the documents and reports"
"Hahahaha, is that so. Good job Mike" senior laughed while complimenting senior Mike and he just scratched his head in response while smiling.
"Why are you seniors full of bruises?" I asked with curiosity.
"Ohh, this we only bruise because those dirty fuckers set off a bomb!" First to respond is a man with a messy black hair that covered half of his face while chewing a bubble gum. He has this mysterious vibe radiating from him.
"Good thing, Alice was able to deduce a escape route at that moment or else we would have been dead." Beside him a guy with a rainbow colored hair and black eyes along with his piecing making him look like a delinquent you see on fictional stories. He sighed in relief while complimenting the other senior.
"Well that deal look way to good for those shady fucker to pull off, so I just secure a escape route just incase." Third one is a woman with blue eyes and white hair ponytail with are tattoo going up to her neck.
"But in the end we got the artifact" senior Ed joined their conversation.
"Its not we captain. Its only you, you have single handedly beaten them within a couple of second after the bomb went off not only that you did it so easily captain. Some of those guys are are BBB ranked celestial hunters!" They all replied in a sync with a tone of admiration and awe at him.
"BBB huh? compare to the BBB ranked celestial hunter back in my day they were too weak." senior Ed replied while remeshing.
"Umm. How old are you senior Ed?" I asked in genuine confusion because he said back in my day like an old man.
"I am currently forty!" his age revelation made my jaw dropped. He is forty looking a twenty years old, I guess that only that could point out to him being old is the white hair.
"Wow, you look like a twenty years old to me though" I let out a compliment.
"Thank you Arron. Also we should celebrate a new member joining us! Should we go a fancy restaurant or just order food online?" senior Ed suggested.
"Lets stick to online!" Our voice sync as we looked at each other and laughed. We know that we are all too tired to go a restaurant right now. Three of the senior are tired physically while senior Mike and I were tired mentally from handling the documents and reports.
