The ghouls, their kagune on full display, slaughtered the crowd without any restraint. In a matter of seconds, several people were brutally killed. The sight of blood and torn limbs only intensified people's fear, and the entire mall descended into chaos. The ghouls, on the other hand, reveled in the bloodshed, greedily licking the blood. The taste of it drove them into a frenzy, and the mayhem they caused gave them an exhilarating adrenaline rush. The daily oppression they faced was cast aside as they faced the screaming humans. The thought that "humans are nothing but trash, food" filled their minds.
"Humans are our food!" The ghouls' morale was revitalized. Regardless of the mission given to them by the Fallen Angel, they were having a great time.
But they were soon stopped by someone. "What in the hell do you guys think you're doing?!" A girl with a revealed kagune and red eyes stood in their way. She wore a Kuoh Academy uniform.
The ghouls' actions infuriated Touka Kirishima. Not only because she was one of them, but also because their reckless behavior would make life even harder for her friends who wanted to live in peace. After all, it would take the devils nothing more than a simple command to eliminate them.
"Hahaha, you're just like us! Why don't you join us? The screams of these humans are so delightful." The ghouls brazenly invited Touka.
Touka used her kagune to attack, sending one of them flying into a wall. "I'll never join you guys!" The girl was so angry she wanted to kill them all.
"How dare you hit me!" The ghoul who had been hit got up from the ground. His incredible healing ability meant he had only suffered a minor injury. "I'm so sick of hearing about 'peace' and all that! It won't be long before we have a place in this world. And when that time comes, you ghoul traitors will be the first ones we eat!" The smell of blood made them audacious, and they began to attack Touka.
After a few exchanges, a spike from a ghoul's kagune pierced through her shoulder, and the intense pain almost made her faint. Just as the ghouls were about to deliver the final blow, a whooshing sound filled the air. With no time to react, water spikes pierced the ghouls' brains. In a matter of seconds, they died from brain damage, and their bodies and kagune melted like jelly.
"They just can't calm down, can they?" a voice said nonchalantly. Touka instinctively turned around and saw a figure who had appeared beside her. Her eyes widened, and she took in the person's appearance. Seeing that it was Luo Guang, she immediately retracted her kagune, and her eyes returned to their normal color.
"L-Luo Guang-kun," she stammered, unsure of what to say. The ghouls from the coffee shop lived like normal humans, and they never used their kagune under normal circumstances.
"You did a good thing. Now go call the police. Those people who were attacked aren't dead yet, and you need to take care of your injury." Luo Guang said, walking past her toward the last remaining ghoul.
Touka was surprised that Luo Guang, who always seemed so aloof at school, would care about her. But she was a ghoul, an outcast, even if she didn't eat human flesh. But then she remembered his gaze from before, a gaze that seemed to pierce the softest part of her heart. Just as the other ghoul's scream echoed, Touka quickly pulled out her phone to call for an ambulance and did her best to help the injured.
The water spikes had pinned the last ghoul's limbs and kagune to the ground. Luo Guang put his foot on his head. "Start talking. What happened?" In extreme pain, his eyes cleared up, and he quickly explained the situation. However, the information was very vague; all he knew was that a Fallen Angel had told them to do it.
"I see." Luo Guang's eyes were deep. He had already guessed what would happen. It seemed like the Fallen Angels were just trying to divert attention. These ghouls were just cannon fodder. Their main target was Rias and her group. If his guess was correct, they were probably on their way now. Luo Guang turned around. "Touka, you can explain everything to Rias and the others."
"Huh? Me?" The girl, who was bandaging an injured person, turned around abruptly but saw no one.
The Fallen Angels' Plan
In the back hills of Kuoh City, a desolate church sat quietly on a mountaintop, exuding a heavy sense of history. Cracks in the old stone walls were covered in climbing vines, as if mourning the forgotten years. It was silent here at night, but in the church's basement, a special ritual was underway.
Raynare looked at the unconscious Issei Hyoudou tied to a cross, a faint smile on her face. "Let's begin now," she said. She then turned and gave a contemptuous look to Tatara and the others.
"You all, get out."
"Guard this place. Don't let anyone in until the ritual is complete."
