Chapter 14 - Separated Paths

It's getting darker. It felt as if time itself has stopped. The warehouse felt like a dead graveyard. No rooms. Only one door. Multiple windows and several pillars. A soldier was sitting down and was holding his gun in his arms. Another one was eating an energy bar. A soldier was looking outside of the window. Right in the middle Kento was sitting. Legs crossed. His gun rests on his hip. V was standing right in front of the big entrance and was looking outside. "It's no use. No matter how much I try I can't open a pocket." V whispered. His black eye gave a slight crimson glow when he tried to open a pocket dimension. "What now?" Kento asked out loud. "Why don't we go back and try to send a signal. I am sure they will come." The soldier who was standing in front of the window suggested. V turned back and walked inside. "It's no use. We have no idea how big this mirror dimension is. The fact that XS is jamming our own abilities." Kento stood up. He walked towards V. "You're the second in command, right? So how can a person like you can't do anything?" V ignored him and walked ahead. The soldiers came closer and gathered around.

"You're right. I can't do anything. Do you know why?" Kento was confused and puzzled. At this point his brain is working against his will. He has no idea what he is saying. "Why?" A soldier asked. V sits down. He leaned back and puts his guns down. "Gonna answer it or what?" Kento was losing his patience. "This whole dimension thing is just a false word play." He looked at them. They all looked confused. "There's no such thing called dimension. It's a theory made by VE a long time ago. This whole mirror dimension thing is real but far more complicated. A person who is blessed or cursed by the void gains void energy. After that they can create an alternative reality for them." Kento steps forward. "What the hell are you saying?" V smiles. "It means a human can never open a dimension. This whole theory is called creating a void dome around the user. Once opened this dome gets teleported inside the void. No matter how big it is, the dome along with its users gets teleported inside the void." A soldier was stunned. His gun slipped from his hand. "You mean...." The soldier mumbles. V looked at him and says - "Yes, it means we are directly inside the void. The user is XS and we are his prey."

Kento was stunned. He came closer and grabbed V. He pulled his collar and yelled. "What do you mean inside the void? We are still on the ground. This is earth."

"Yes, Kento. We are on earth, but the chunk of this area is in the void. It means back in reality the forest and the warehouse is still there but a replica which can't be sensed by ordinary humans. This is the curse of the void." Kento lets go of him. The soldiers were losing their minds. This level of power system V dropped was too much for them. V looked at them and stood up.

"Remember when we saved you from Victor?" Kento nodded his head but doesn't say anything. "Your whole apartment was shifted into the void. Then the woman who saved you in the store entered the void field with her own abilities. Then it was Commander Ema who created a large void field which gave us the upper hand."

Kento stepped back; it was too confusing but he slightly understood. This means whenever a void user uses his abilities they get teleported into the void along with their surroundings.

A window was right above their head. V pointed his finger upwards. "See that?" Kento looked upwards and gets stunned. The other soldiers couldn't see it because they can't use Void field on their own. Kento's eyes wide opened. It was the same green disk which was covering the sky before. "Welcome to the void, gentlemen." V looked at them and says it with a deep tone.

The atmosphere became chilly. Their silence slowed it all. Inside Kento's mind only one thing was going on. So far everything he knew about void exterminators was wrong. He used to think they can control reality within this world but no. A void exterminator carves a chunk of reality and places them in the void. It gives them complete authority and power over the reality within that space. Kento was thinking about the bunker. It means the whole bunker is in the void. A massive chunk of reality which can only be accessed by void exterminators.

V looked at him and says- "Kento, I ..." Suddenly all of them felt something. V's eyes got wide opened. The ground underneath them disappeared. A black vortex was under them. A black spinning vortex. They all looked at each other. No time to react. They all fell inside the vortex. V looked at Kento before falling. A soldier screamed. Kento stretched his hands but couldn't reach V. V screamed his name. Within a split second they all fell and the vortex closed. The ground became normal again but this time only a gun was laying around.

Footsteps grew louder. The burning forest near the crash site. Rez was standing in front of the forest. His knuckles covered in black blood. His eyes looked troubled. Behind him Sho was standing with the strike team. "What now?" He asked Rez but Rez doesn't answer immediately. He turns his head around and looked at them. Sho's hammer was soaked with blood. The soldiers were reloading their guns. A soldier was manifesting void energy in his fist to infuse it with his weapon. "We keep tracking them. I can still sense V. He's near but he's not on the ground." Rez was right. He sensed him from a distance. Sho looked up and sees the aircraft that carried them was leaving. "Good thing we landed or else we might have encountered them midair." Sho looked upwards while saying it. Suddenly he looked aside. A void being was coming out from the dark. Rez didn't flinch. The soldiers didn't move. They kept doing what they were doing. Sho looked at it. It charged in. "You ugly bastard." Suddenly Sho was standing right behind it. He pulled his hammer out and smashed its head. The impact was so devastating it crushed it and made it flat with one strike. The hammer just got more bloody. Sho walked right over it. "Move out." Rez walked away and Sho and the others followed him. They were two kilometres away from the warehouse. Rez, Sho, and the others left their mark of chaos as they made it through.

Meanwhile, the vortex that separated the team didn't show up. The upper layer of the warehouse was calm and quiet. They were right; there is an underground facility underneath. The stretched hallways. Empty and quiet. Cold and silent. The hallways were covered in white paint. Vents. The hallways had individual rooms and doors. Kento was now alone. He keeps walking. He kept making his way through but doesn't know where to find anyone. The doors weren't opening as well. V and a soldier named Kevin were together. Meanwhile, the other soldiers were separated. Kento was walking blindly. He doesn't know where to go. He doesn't know where to find anyone. He was holding the gun in his hand and kept walking. V looked calm and was walking fast. The other soldiers were trying to open those doors but failed. Kento was looking serious but nervous inside. He looked around; no matter where he goes the hallway was the same. Same doors, same design. Only left and right turns. "Damn it." He yelled. Kento stopped walking and sits down in front of a door. "No matter where I go it's all the same. Where are you, V?" V and Kevin on the other hand didn't let their guard down. They were walking with guns ready to blow anything. V took a left turn and took a right then but doesn't get anywhere. The facility was large and the pattern and structure design was confusing. Kento was walking again and luckily he found something. After minutes of walking he came across a stairway. White stairs that leads to the next floor. He smiled. He didn't stop. He quickly made his way. As soon as Kento climbed up he was stunned. He takes the turn and his eyes were shocked opened. As if he is seeing a ghost in front of him. Tactical armour, open hair, guns on hip. Guess who? Misa and Kento were standing face to face.

Kento and Misa both looked at each other's eyes but no one made the first move. Kento froze up again. Misa on the other hand looked unpredictable. She didn't attack; she didn't say anything. Kento takes a step back. "You're here. Why?" Misa took a step forward and says, "Kento, right? We haven't introduced each other properly, right?" She gives a gentle smile with a soft tone. Kento slightly holds his gun but doesn't make any moves. He took another step backwards. "A Glock, right? You know when it comes to infusing your energy with weapons I won't recommend a Glock." Kento was confused. She began too gentle. Kento has saw her before. She's ruthless and chaotic. "Answer me. Who are you with? What's this place?" Misa raised both her hands and stepped forward. Kento turned. He kept walking backwards while keeping eye contact. "Relax, soldier boy. I am not gonna do anything but if you keep that tone up I might do something." Kento's heart was racing. He took a step backwards and gets bumped into the wall. He's pinned. Misa stood in front of him. "Now let's talk like civilized people and let's not kill each other, ok?" She made a gentle offer. Kento lets go of his gun. "Fine. So who are you?" Misa smiled. Her fang tooth looked deadly. "Fool." Suddenly she launched herself towards him. Kento didn't get any time to react. Misa grabbed his neck and slammed him on the floor. She pins him down and puts a gun on his head. "How many are you out there?" She yelled. Her voice echoed.

V suddenly turned around."Shit." V sensed her. V and Kevin started running towards the opposite direction. "She's here." V now has a lead.

Kento didn't say anything. Misa was holding him and a gun was loaded. "Answer me." Kento doesn't say anything. "Fine then." She muttered. Suddenly Kento rolled. Misa let her guard down. Kento rolled over and pulled his gun. He pointed it. Misa jumped back and pulled out the other gun. Both of them froze. Kento's eyes were wide opened. Misa was inches away. Misa was on her knees pointing the guns and Kento was laying down while aiming for her head. "Not bad. You learned it from the old man, didn't you?" Misa smiles while saying it. How can a person smile in this situation? But she's built different. "Who?" Kento asked. "Oh come on. Don't tell me you don't know who Rez is?" Kento knows him very well. Thanks to him he now can at least defend himself. "So what? Why does it matter to you?" Misa lowered her guns. Kento didn't. "Fine then. How about we talk, ok? I am serious this time. Point your gun at me if you don't trust me." She puts both of the guns on her hip and sits down. She leaned back and relaxed. Kento crawled backwards. He leaned on the wall and kept pointing the gun at her. "Fine then, what do you want to know?" Kento asked her with a straight face and he was serious. The moment awaits.
