I can't believe Stane's here, attacking my school of all places. He's gone completely off the rails, more unhinged than ever. And that new armor? It's even uglier than the first one, if that's even possible. I really need to start a new life, preferably in a world where people do not try to kill me.
As we burst out of the school's entrance, I see Stane turn his armored head towards us. A maniacal grin spreads across his face. "Well, well, well," he booms, his voice distorted by the suit's speakers. "If it isn't the 'Chosen Child.' I was hoping you'd show your face."
"Stane, what the hell do you think you're doing? Attacking a high school? That's low, even for you."
"Silence!" He shouts, his fist rising. "I'm here to finish what I started. You interfered with my plans once, but you won't do it again."
"Oh, I don't know, Stane," I say, smirking. "Interfering with your plans is kind of my thing."
I glanced over at Golemon, who was staring at me emotionlessly. "And who is this rock head?" I ask.
"Golemon is my partner," Stane responds. "I will use him to crush you."
Stane laughs, a cruel, mocking sound. "I see you brought your little pets. But they are no match for me now. I am far more powerful than I was before."
"We'll see about that, Stane," I reply, my voice dripping with sarcasm. "Agumon, Gabumon, you know what to do."
They both nod, taking a defensive stance. I raise my Digivice into the air, the screen glowing brightly. Time to show Stane what real power looks like. "Agumon, Gabumon, Digivolve!"
A surge of energy courses through Agumon and Gabumon as the Digivice amplifies their power.
"Agumon Digivolve to—Greymon!"
Agumon transforms, growing larger. His body morphs and hardens, orange scales covering his skin, and a beetle-like helmet forms over his head. He roars, a sound that shakes the very ground beneath us. This isn't the first time I've seen Agumon Digivolve, but I still can't help but feel pumped up whenever I see him become Greymon.
"Gabumon Digivolve to—Garurumon!"
Gabumon is next. His fur hardens and thickens. He becomes a large, wolf-like Digimon with razor-sharp claws and teeth. Garurumon lets out a howl that seems to pierce the heavens. It's so freaking cool.
I can hear the gasps and shouts of the students behind me. "What the hell is that?" someone yells. "Is that a dinosaur?"
Stane stares daggers at Greymon. "You," he snarls, his voice laced with venom. "I haven't forgotten what you did to me. You trashed my armor, humiliated me in front of Stark. This time, it'll be different."
He turns to his stony companion. "Golemon, the dinosaur is mine. Handle the wolf."
I step forward, pointing at Stane. "Greymon, take out Stane. Garurumon, you deal with the rock pile. Let's go!"
With a deafening roar, Greymon charges at Stane. Stane meets him head-on, launching a volley of missiles from his suit. Greymon roars and swats the missiles away. I'm surprised how easily he batted them away. Stane's face shows a mix of surprise and anger. He's probably remembering the last time he went up against Greymon.
Garurumon wastes no time engaging Golemon. He circles the golem, testing its defenses. Golemon lumbers forward, its massive fists crashing into the ground. Garurumon leaps back, avoiding the blow. Dust explodes around the point of impact. Garurumon is fast, but Golemon is solid.
Greymon and Stane are locked in a brutal exchange. Stane throws punches, each one powerful enough to shatter concrete, but Greymon blocks them with his armored hide. Greymon slams his tail into Stane, sending him staggering back. Stane recovers and fires a beam of energy from his chest, striking Greymon head-on. Greymon roars in pain but stands his ground, shaking his head.
Garurumon continues to harass Golemon, nipping at its heels and darting away before it can retaliate. He unleashes a stream of icy breath, coating Golemon's legs in frost. Golemon stumbles, its movements slowing. It's now or never!
Greymon seizes the opportunity and charges at Stane. He lowers his head and unleashes his signature move. "Nova Blast!" A massive fireball erupts from Greymon's mouth, engulfing Stane's armor in flames. Stane screams in agony as the inferno washes over him. The blast sends him flying backwards, crashing through the school's front doors. I run to the side, not wanting to get hit by flying debris.
Garurumon sees his chance and leaps onto Golemon's back, his claws digging into its stony hide. He unleashes a barrage of blows, chipping away at the golem's armor. Golemon thrashes wildly, trying to shake Garurumon off, but the wolf-like Digimon holds on tight, relentlessly attacking.
"You're doing well, Greymon, Garurumon!"
Things are going well. If I use my Digi-Modify cards, the balance will tip into our favor. A Hyper Wing on Garurumon would give him the aerial advantage against Golemon. I was about to use the Digi-Modify app on my Digivice when it suddenly picks up a new Digimon, rapidly approaching.
"What—"
A black hand grabs my neck, lifting me into the air. It's Devimon, grinning wickedly. Seriously? Another villain wants to take me out? I must have a sign on my back or something.
"I got you, Chosen Child!" he exclaims, his crimson eyes gleaming.
"Cipher!" Greymon and Garurumon yell in alarm.
They try to rush to my aid, but Stane and Golemon block their paths, renewing their assault. "You're not going anywhere!" Stane yells.
My vision blurs as Devimon chokes me. My hands claw at his, but it is like trying to move stone. I feel my breath run short.
"I'm going to enjoy seeing the light gone from your eyes, Chosen Child," Devimon snarls, tightening his grip. Black spots dance at the edge of my vision. Is this how it ends?
Suddenly, a familiar flash of light erupts beside me, and Gatomon and BlackGatomon materialize, claws extended. "Not if we have anything to say about it, you overgrown bat!" Gatomon shouts. BlackGatomon adds, "Let go of our Tamer, ugly!" They lash out at Devimon.
Those two are always there for me, no matter what. I really do appreciate them.
Their claws rake across Devimon's face, and he roars in pain, finally releasing me. Gravity wastes no time in reminding me of its existence. We plummet toward the unforgiving concrete below. Coughing and gasping for air, I quickly fumble for my Digivice.
"BlackGatomon, Hyper Wing!" I yell, tapping the screen frantically. I'm not sure how many more of these close calls I can take.
Suddenly, nine small, white wings sprout from BlackGatomon's back, flapping furiously. They looked ridiculously out of place on her. "Seriously? These are the best wings you can do, System?" I ask. BlackGatomon dives, grabbing me. I scoop up Gatomon, holding her tightly in my arms. I feel bad for Gatomon and BlackGatomon. I am always putting them in danger.
BlackGatomon struggles to keep us aloft, but she manages to glide toward a nearby rooftop. We crash-land in a secluded corner. After a stumble, BlackGatomon finds her balance.
"Thanks, guys," I say, panting. "You saved my life again."
"Don't mention it," Gatomon says, ever the pragmatist. BlackGatomon just huffs, looking annoyed by the wings.
Before we can catch our breath, a dark shadow falls over us. Devimon lands a few feet away, his eyes blazing with malice. "I won't let you get away, Chosen Child," he snarls, his voice dripping with venom. "This is where you die!"
