Chapter 178 - Chapter 178

Let's reach 250 Power Stones for an extra chapter

Peter, Tony, and I stood ready. My Digimon partners stood by my side, a nervous excitement flowing through the lab. I looked over the setup we had built. Copper pipes ran through a hastily opened section of the wall, supported by stacks of crates to keep them level. It looked like something out of a mad scientist's garage, not a multi-million dollar Stark Industries lab. A triangular metal container sat on a platform, ready to hold the new element. Tony's custom-built energy generator, containing a smooth prismatic shard, hummed softly.

"Alright, everyone, goggles on!" Tony announced, with his usual dramatic flair. "Safety first, especially when we are rewriting the periodic table."

I slipped on a pair of sleek, Stark-branded safety goggles. The clear lenses felt cool against my skin. I could not help but feel a mix of pride and apprehension. We were about to do something incredible, something that could change the world. However, there was always that comic-book trope of the first experiment going horribly wrong. I just hoped we would not end up with a giant, rampaging purple monster.

"You really think this is going to work?" Peter asked, adjusting his own goggles, his voice a little shaky.

"It has to," I said, a confident smirk on my face. "Tony Stark does not do 'fail.' He only does 'temporary setback leading to ultimate triumph.'"

Tony threw the switch, and the entire lab pulsed with a low, deep thrum. A soft, vibrant blue light surged through the copper pipes, a steady stream of pure energy flowing towards the generator. It looked like something out of a sci-fi movie, the kind where the hero always says, "It's alive!"

The prismatic shard inside the generator flared, intensifying the glow until the entire room shimmered with reflected blue. JARVIS's voice, as calm and collected as ever, provided a running commentary on the rising energy readings.

"Energy levels at 70%... 80%... 90%."

I felt a low thrumming through the floor, a vibration that resonated with my own anticipation, like the universe itself was holding its breath. My Digimon partners watched with wide, focused eyes, their usual playful energy replaced by a serious intensity. Gatomon's ears twitched, following the light, while BlackGatomon's tail gave a slow, deliberate swish. Even Ballistamon seemed to brace himself, his metallic frame humming faintly in response to the surging power. This was it. The moment of truth.

[ENERGY ACCELERATOR: MAXIMUM POWER]

The prismatic shard flared, shooting a blinding, white-hot beam. It hit the mirror with an almost physical thwack, reflecting into an even more intense, focused ray. I threw an arm up, shielding my eyes. The sheer energy of it was enough to make my skin prickle, even through the goggles. Peter gasped next to me, a nervous sound escaping his lips.

"Whoa, what was that?" Peter asked, his voice tight.

"Just a little light show, kid," Tony said, his tone casual, but I saw the white knuckles on his hands gripping the console. "Nothing I can't handle."

Gatomon's ears flattened against her head.

"That felt a bit much, even for a Stark production," she commented, a hint of genuine worry in her voice.

BlackGatomon, always the one for theatrics, actually hissed at the light.

"You call that 'under control?'" BlackGatomon demanded, her tail lashing. "My fur nearly got singed off!"

Ballistamon, true to his nature, just stood there, a low humming sound coming from his chest as he absorbed some of the excess energy, his armored form practically glowing. I just hoped Tony knew what he was doing.

Tony's hand moved with precision, engaging a lever. The prismatic shard rotated slowly, gracefully, its blinding beam now aiming directly at the triangular metal container. The light hit it, and the container flared, becoming a beacon. I had to squint, my eyes burning even through the tinted goggles. Peter gasped, shielding his face with an arm. The air grew hot, thick with the sharp tang of ionized particles, like a lightning strike trapped in a bottle.

"JARVIS, status report!" Tony yelled, his voice strained.

"Energy absorption is optimal, sir," JARVIS replied, a hint of digital excitement in his usually calm tone. "Structural integrity holding at 98%."

thrummmm

A deep vibration ran through the floor, climbing up my legs and into my chest. It felt like standing inside a giant, resonating bell. Gatomon's fur bristled, and BlackGatomon let out a low growl, her tail twitching nervously. Even Ballistamon, usually a stoic tank, shifted his weight, his heavy plating humming with the raw power filling the lab.

"This is insane," Peter muttered, his voice barely audible over the hum. "It's actually working."

"Of course, it is," I said, a grin stretching across my face despite the discomfort.

Tony slammed a large red button. The machine whined down, and the brilliant beam instantly vanished. The sudden silence was almost as striking as the earlier roar of energy. The air cooled rapidly, leaving a faint, lingering scent of ozone. The triangular metal container, no longer bathed in the white light, still radiated a soft, steady glow, a testament to the power it had absorbed.

"Did it work?" Peter asked, his voice a hopeful whisper.

"Of course, it worked, kid," Tony said, a wide grin spreading across his face as he removed his goggles. "You're looking at the future of clean energy, right there."

I pulled off my own goggles, my eyes fixed on the glowing container. The light within it seemed to pulse, like a captured star.

"I still don't get how you guys pulled this off," I admitted, a genuine awe in my voice. "This is next-level science fiction stuff."

Gatomon jumped onto my shoulder, her tail swishing in approval.

"He does have a knack for the dramatic," Gatomon purred.

BlackGatomon, however, remained skeptical.

"Dramatic and dangerous," BlackGatomon grumbled, shaking her head. "I'm just glad we didn't end up as a pile of glowing ash."

Ballistamon let out a soft whirr, as if agreeing with the general sentiment of relief.

[SYNTHESIS COMPLETE]

[ELEMENT: NEW. IDENTIFICATION: ARC REACTOR ELEMENT. STABILITY: OPTIMAL. TOXICITY: ZERO. EFFICIENCY: 400% IMPROVED.]

JARVIS's calm, precise voice cut through the buzzing silence, confirming the impossible. Peter gasped beside me, his eyes wide as dinner plates, practically vibrating with scientific awe. He looked like he'd just seen a unicorn riding a skateboard while juggling quantum physics textbooks.

"No way," Peter breathed, pulling off his goggles. "It actually... it actually worked."

I couldn't help the surge of triumph. My little nudge, mentioning Howard Stark's research, had just solved Tony's palladium poisoning and unlocked a new energy source. Not bad for a high school dropout.

"Told you, kid," Tony said, a wide, genuine grin stretching across his face. It was rare to see him truly happy, not just his usual smug satisfaction. This was different, almost vulnerable. The kind of smile that said, "I just cheated death and reinvented the future."

"We did it!" Peter cheered, throwing his hands up in the air.

I laughed, feeling the tension drain from my shoulders. It was a good laugh, one that came from deep in my gut.

"Yeah, we did it," I agreed, a wide, proud smile mirroring Tony's. "Never doubted you for a second, Tony."

Gatomon, always the sensible one, rubbed her head against my leg.

"I'm just glad we don't have to deal with another glowing monster rampage," she said, a hint of her usual sarcasm returning.

BlackGatomon, ever the opportunist, immediately started sniffing around the glowing container.

"Can we eat it?" BlackGatomon asked, her nose twitching. "It looks... energetic."

"Don't even think about it!" I said, gently nudging her away with my foot. "That's worth more than all the tuna in the world."

Even Ballistamon let out a series of happy whirrs and beeps, his heavy frame vibrating with relief. He knew the stakes, too. The atmosphere in the lab was electric, buzzing with shared success. The exhaustion of the past few days, the endless calculations, the sheer stress of the unknown—all of it dissolved into pure, unadulterated victory. We had pulled it off.
