Chapter 1 - Ch 1: Ben 10

Star City, July 2012

A young man was riding a motorcycle at high speed through the outskirts of Star City.

A news broadcast was playing over the motorcycle's radio.

Jack Ryder: "Good evening, folks! This is Jack Ryder with your top stories from across the superhero world. Tonight, we're bringing you the latest on all things Young Justice, where the sidekicks are stepping into the spotlight. You might want to sit tight because things are heating up in the hero world."

---

Jack Ryder: "First up, it's been a rough week for the Justice League as reports confirm that someone inside Mount Justice has leaked highly classified files, putting covert team missions at risk. Batman is conducting a full investigation, and the team's on edge. Who's the mole? Rumors are flying, but no one's talking, not yet. Stay tuned!"

---

Jack Ryder: "In other news, Star City has seen a surprising surge in tech thefts. Green Arrow's sidekick, Artemis, was spotted at the scene, some say a little too close to the action. Sources suggest she's been on the defensive lately. Could there be a connection to the mysterious Shadow Group spotted near the docks? Word on the street is, the League of Shadows might be moving in on her turf. The plot thickens!"

---

Jack Ryder: "And lastly, rumors are spreading about a new criminal mastermind emerging in Metropolis, codenamed 'The Light.' No one knows who's behind it yet, but it's clear they're pulling strings from the shadows. Even Superman's raising an eyebrow at this one. Sources suggest they're responsible for orchestrating major villain team-ups, so expect the unexpected, folks!"

---

Jack Ryder: "That's all for tonight, heroes and villains alike! Keep your ears open and your eyes wide. Trouble is brewing, and the young heroes are stepping up to the challenge. This is Jack Ryder, signing off from GNN. Remember, if you're not tuned in, you're wrong!"

---

The music faded out, and the broadcast ended.

The young man sighed in frustration.

"Everything is so exciting, except my life."

As he rode his motorcycle, a mountainous rural area came into view.

After parking his bike, the young man stood at the edge of a cliff, gazing up at the countless stars in the sky.

He took off his helmet, revealing his casually styled, short brown hair.

He wore a white jacket with green stripes and brown pants.

Looking up at the sky, he wondered, "Where is it?"

He glanced at his wristwatch.

"Where's my Omnitrix?" he muttered.

Yeah, where's my Omnitrix? Aren't I supposed to have one?

Yes, I am what you would call a transmigrator.

I was really surprised. I was five when I discovered that I had a lot of memories belonging to someone else. I was confused. I mean, I thought they belonged to someone else, but slowly, I realized, "Hey, that was actually me from another world, from another lifetime."

The memories didn't appear all at once. It was more like they had always been there, but I just couldn't understand them. Maybe my brain wasn't developed enough, or maybe it was my soul.

I don't remember ever meeting some old guy who called himself God or anything like that, nor did I get any cheats. I don't even know how I died. Maybe I subconsciously don't want to remember that. I mean, every time I think about it, something just doesn't feel right.

But one day, while I was thinking about it, I remembered something. Or rather, I realized something.

I was living in a comic book. Or rather, I was living in a world where superheroes were real. In my previous life, superheroes existed only in comics, movies, manga, and novels.

The world I lived in was the DC Universe, where Superman, Batman, and Wonder Woman existed. Although Superman hadn't become Superman yet, cities like Gotham, Metropolis, and Central City were already part of this world.

So, I wanted to know more about my previous life's memories, and then I realized I was kind of a loner. I didn't like to interact with many people, the so-called introvert.

It just felt exhausting. And also, I liked cartoons, comics, movies, anime, and novels. One of my favorite cartoons was Ben 10.

And guess what? My name in this world was Benjamin Kirby Tennyson. In short, I was Ben 10 in the DC Universe.

But Ben wasn't supposed to be in the DC Universe, right?

I was shocked at first, then excited. I mean, come on! I was Ben Tennyson, the greatest hero in the universe, and I was supposed to get an Omnitrix. So, I waited.

When I was ten, my Grandpa Max, my cousin Gwen, and I went on a road trip that was supposed to change my life forever.

But it didn't.

On the day of our camping trip, the meteor that was supposed to bring me the Omnitrix never appeared, nor did a robot come looking for it.

The road trip continued, and nothing happened.

I thought maybe someone else had gotten it, but no other alien hero appeared. Well, not exactly.

The Man of Steel, the beacon of hope, the god among men, Superman, appeared. Or rather, he started acting like Superman.

Then Batman and Wonder Woman were there, too. Wonder Woman had been around since World War II, and many more heroes revealed themselves.

But everything has another side. With heroes came villains. The world became exciting, but my life remained just as boring as ever. Without the Omnitrix, I was nothing.

Most of the memories of my so-called previous life felt like dreams to me now.

And like most dreams, I kept forgetting them bit by bit. But the fact that I was Ben Tennyson, living in a world where comic book superheroes existed in real life, stayed with me.

I only remember the original Ben from the cartoon Ben 10 Classic, not what happened when he grew up. I have some memories of another show, but I don't think I ever watched it.

Maybe I didn't watch it, or maybe I died before I could. Who knows?

I even tried taking self-defense classes, but... sigh.

Looking up at the sky filled with countless stars, he whispered, "Can I really be a... hero?"

"Yes, you can."

Suddenly, he heard a familiar voice behind him.

Turning around, he saw a familiar-looking young man, a ten-year-old girl, and a mature man in his thirties stepping out of a swirling blue portal.

"You're...?"

"I'm Ben Tennyson."
