# Kemuri no Kokyū.
- Ichi no kata: Kon'en (Soul Mist)
# Description:
The user takes a deep breath, then exhales through a special breathing technique so that his body is shrouded in thick smoke. In this condition, his form seemed blurry, as if merging with the smoke itself.
# Effect:
Cannot attack -> body completely in avoidance mode.
Cannot be attacked -> the opponent's attack penetrates the "shadow of smoke" without hitting the real body, as if the user is missing.
# Limitation:
Requires full concentration -> If distracted, smoke is dispersed.
Very draining the lungs -> can only be used for a while, then it must be changed to another form.
- Ni no kata: Enpo (Smoke Step).
# Description:
When the body merges with the smoke (First Form), the user can "glide" within the smoke, appearing and disappearing in different locations as if teleporting.
# Effect:
Confuse opponents, as the user's position is difficult to predict.
Transition is extremely fast, as if the body is actually moving from one point to another through a curtain of smoke.
Suitable for infiltration, evading large area attacks, or outwitting demons with super-speed.
# Limitation:
Cannot attack while in this form. Attacks can only be launched after reappearing.
Requires extreme breath control; prolonged use can damage the lungs. At least at Kagerou's current age
- San no Kata: Fukuei (Shrouded Shadow)
#Description:
The user blends their body seamlessly with smoke, moving in erratic, fragmented patterns. Each slash manipulates the mist to create false silhouettes, producing multiple afterimages that dart unpredictably through the fog. To an enemy, it looks like being surrounded by several attackers.
#Effect:
Overwhelms the opponent's senses, especially sight, forcing them to waste attacks on illusions.
Perfect for close-quarters combat against multiple enemies or fast demons since the smoke creates split-second blind spots.
Can strike from angles the opponent cannot anticipate, increasing critical hit chances.
#Limitation:
Extremely breath-intensive: requires constant, rapid control of lung capacity to sustain multiple illusions.
Illusions vanish instantly in strong wind, fire, or if the smoke is dispersed too widely.
Doesn't increase raw attack power, if the enemy can see through the trick, the move loses most of its value.
- Shi no Kata: Genbu (Phantom Dance)
#Description:
A flowing, continuous sequence of slashes performed while enveloped in smoke. Each swing shapes the mist into full-bodied afterimages of the user, creating the illusion of multiple swordsmen attacking in unison. The phantoms mirror every movement perfectly, overwhelming the enemy in a suffocating dance.
#Effect:
Functions like a synchronized group attack, allowing one swordsman to mimic the pressure of a squad.
Extremely disorienting, an opponent must fend off strikes from every side, unsure which blade is real.
Illusions move with flawless rhythm, making counterattacks nearly impossible without breaking the formation.
#Limitation:
Requires immense concentration and stamina. A single disruption in breathing rhythm causes the illusions to collapse instantly.
Best used in a controlled space; open-air battlefields allow illusions to spread too thin, reducing their impact.
Once the opponent recognizes the true user's movements within the dance, the phantoms lose effectiveness.
#A/N: These two moves are almost identical, but you can think of the Third Form (Fukuei) as a stealth/deception burst move, while the Fourth Form (Genbu) is more of a sustained assault technique that simulates a squad's coordinated attack.
