Asgard
Palace
Thor was in the garden; his brother Loki hadn't been around for a while, until his hammer began to be forged.
Thor knew very little about his powers. As far as he knew, his abilities weren't limited to throwing lightning.
Throwing lightning was just his first skill—the most common ability of Thor.
Besides throwing lightning, Thor also carried the Odinforce.
Being Odin's heir, this energy could sometimes also be controlled by Thor.
The Thorforce, or Odinforce, was a cosmic energy so powerful that it granted Odin abilities so immense that he could even fight Celestials.
Powers that included reviving the dead, super strength, magic, among many others.
At that moment, Thor was trying to control this energy.
He was sitting with his eyes closed, meditating in the garden, trying to use any energy he could, but he felt nothing.
He tried for a while until he got tired and gave up.
Thor gave up for today.
But he would continue trying until he succeeded.
Thor briefly felt a premonition, a glimpse.
He didn't notice it, but his senses sharpened for a moment.
Thor sensed a guard approaching from behind.
He opened his eyes, and when he turned, the guard was there—exactly where he had sensed him.
"Your Highness, your father asked me to summon you…" said the guard.
Thor found this strange but didn't think much of it.
"Yes… I'm coming. Will you accompany me?" Thor asked.
"Yes, Your Highness," replied the Asgardian guard.
"Then let's go," said Thor.
Thor walked through the palace, followed by the guard, heading toward the throne where his father was.
He reached the doors of the throne room and opened them, asking the guard to stay outside.
"Father, can you see me?" Thor asked.
Odin replied:
"Yes… I want you to try this and tell me what you think," said Odin, holding a hammer.
Odin tossed the hammer to Thor—not hard enough to hurt him.
Thor caught the hammer, with some difficulty, but managed it.
He held Mjölnir, and the first impression was that it felt incredibly light, even though it seemed heavy.
Thor twirled the hammer and played with it; Mjölnir was amazing.
That was Thor's impression.
It seemed incredibly durable. Thor felt a connection with this hammer, as if he had mentally bonded with it the moment he held it.
Odin watched his son enjoying the gift, but he interrupted him and said:
"Enough, Thor. I would like to tell you a few things about this weapon…" Odin said.
Thor noticed his father's tone and corrected himself.
"I'm sorry, father…"
"It's alright… Listen carefully, Thor. There are some things you need to know about this hammer. First, this is not a toy—it is a weapon. You need to learn how to use it and, most importantly, why to use it. Thor, I gave you this hammer so you could protect Asgard and the Nine Realms. This is no ordinary weapon; the hammer is made entirely of Uru—a metal incredibly strong and rare. On top of that, I enchanted it with various spells…" Odin said.
Thor absorbed his father's words.
Odin wanted to teach Thor responsibility. He didn't give Mjölnir to Thor without a reason; he gave it so that Thor could learn to use part of his powers and, above all, to see if Thor had the responsibility and qualities to be a king.
"I understand, father… I won't disappoint you. This hammer will never be used to harm innocent people, only to protect them," said Thor.
Odin seemed surprised and very pleased with Thor's words. Odin considered Loki wise, but sometimes Thor seemed born with the mind of an adult. Odin felt that Thor might one day be a wiser king than himself.
Odin was very happy with Thor.
"Excellent. I'm glad you understand. Your combat training begins tomorrow… Loki and some others your age have started their first mission," Odin said, catching Thor off guard.
"Mission…? What do you mean, father? I think I misheard…" Thor asked.
"You heard correctly. You'll receive training and leave on a mission a few days later. I don't want my children to grow up used to staying home eating and drinking all day. The sooner they learn the hardships of life, the sooner they will become better people."
"But… but…" Thor tried, but his father simply shouted back:
"No more, Thor. You'll do as I said. Wasn't I clear enough?" Odin said.
"Yes, Your Majesty," Thor gave up and accepted his harsh fate. Sooner or later, he would have to leave home and go into battle.
"Good, you may go now. A guard is waiting to take you to meet your teammates," Odin said.
Teammates… how wonderful, Thor thought sarcastically.
"Yes, father," Thor murmured.
Thor walked out of the throne room holding Mjölnir.
Outside, a guard was waiting.
Before he could ask anything,
"Your Highness, has your father already told you?" asked the guard.
"Yes…" Thor replied, somewhat disheartened.
"That's good, then I won't need to explain where we're going," said the guard.
"My father didn't tell me where we're going, only that it's a training place," said Thor.
"True. It's not far from here—a camp where young Asgardian warriors train."
"I see… Then… shall we…?" Thor asked impatiently.
"We're waiting for someone, Your Highness…" said the guard.
"Who are we waiting for?" Thor asked.
Before the guard could answer, Thor heard an irritating voice:
"Dear brother, it will be a good vacation…"
That annoying voice that tormented him.
"Loki, dear brother… And you…"
"Loki… good to see you, brother," said Thor.
Loki was wearing two daggers at his waist and training clothes.
"I think the same… So… is this the guard Father spoke of?"
"I guess so… maybe he's a disguised demon," Thor replied.
"That's possible… maybe he really is," Loki added.
The guard frowned and realized the journey would be farther than he thought.
