Chapter 13 - The Hunter's Eyes

Dravin froze in his tracks, as if he had seen a ghost.

"Y–you… th–that's…" His hands trembled as he pointed above Siena's head.

Confused, Siena looked up in the direction Dravin was pointing.

"There's a fly above your head." Freya pushed Dravin to the side, waving her hand above Siena's head.

Siena's eyes darted between Dravin and Freya. "Ah, so you still have your guest. I think I'm bothering you. I'm sorry. I'll be back later." In her haste and with a cautious glance at Freya, Siena left Dravin's apartment and went into her own.

Freya turned a glare on him. "Control your reaction! You'll just scare them and get them more depressed."

But Dravin's eyes were still wide with shock, and his heart pounded in his chest.

He hadn't expected to see a human's pleasure index status up close, and it sent a shiver of dread down his spine. I

t felt like a countdown to someone's lifeline, and he had the power to save it.

"So… she… she could die when it hits zero?" Dravin asked with an innocent blank look, still leaning against his apartment door.

"Do you want to save her?" Freya asked.

"Shouldn't I?"

Freya smirked. "I don't know. What does your system say? Didn't you say that whether people live or die isn't your concern as long as your system doesn't mention it?"

Dravin flinched. He was caught by his own words, swallowing the dry sand in his throat.

He thought it would be just a matter of simply cooking and making content to make people happy. But the cost was life and death.

"How long does it usually take for a person's pleasure index to run out?" Dravin asked, his gaze full of questions.

"It depends on the demon possessing them. She has a D-Rank, so it usually takes about a month to decrease one percent of the index."

Dravin blinked, summoning his screen.

He opened the priority list file again and saw the demon ranks possessing them; out of the six names on the list, there were only B-Rank and A-Rank demons.

"Does that mean a B-Rank Demon would decrease one percent in two weeks? And an A-Rank in a week?"

Freya just nodded, expressionless. Now the reason why the list was a priority was crystal clear to him.

Dravin felt overwhelmed with all the information he'd gotten in such a short amount of time.

But what frustrated him even more was that Rubby still hadn't appeared.

He didn't know where to start with all this information, these lists, and his Hunter's Eyes. He dragged his feet back inside his apartment and sat on the edge of his bed.

Wait… Rubby said it would be back when Freya came, but she's already here. Rubby… are you there?

The emoji that indicated Rubby's presence still hadn't appeared on the screen.

Ah, could it be the second task should be done too? I haven't received a notification about whether it succeeded or failed.

Dravin read the second task on the screen again.

A blueprint? Freya gave him a list document, so that's not it?

Dravin again examined every corner of his screen, trying to understand what blueprint was meant.

Then both of his eyebrows shot up when he saw a calendar icon.

His index finger clicked the icon, and the columns showed a calendar section. There was a button that said making a blueprint. Dravin smirked and immediately clicked the button.

Dravin randomly entered the number 10 and pressed the next button.

Dravin clicked Yes, and the system showed a processing indicator, searching for a file.

The screen then automatically displayed a summary of the list, and when Dravin scrolled to the very bottom, a confirmation question appeared.

Dravin chose Yes, and Siena's name was instantly added to the list. He drew a long breath, seeing her photo displayed. It felt like a death list, and the hairs on his arms stood up again.

The system screen showed a processing indicator as it generated random targets to complete his initial 10. It was still buffering.

While he waited, Dravin looked at Freya, who was sitting at the dining table busy with her watch.

Her fingers hovered over the screen as if she was typing something. Was she also busy with a system interface like this?

Dravin watched Freya remain calm, even after seeing a target who would likely die in two months.

He guessed that seeing such things was normal for hunters. Would he also get used to it?

His heart was still pounding, and he didn't know how he should act when he met Siena again. No, he knew exactly how to act, but could he pretend he didn't know her fate?

Ding!

20% and catch the demon who possessed them.>

Dravin looked over at Freya, who simultaneously looked back at him.

"Did you get the notification?" he asked.

"Ten?" She chuckled. "I gave you six lists because it's your first time. Aren't you too confident? You almost peed yourself when you saw that girl's pleasure index."

Dravin sighed. "You won't even believe me if I say I'm that confident, right? But, what else do I have? Fear won't get me anywhere. And courage needs confidence to keep me going. I like to break your expectations, so just accept it and get the work done."

Freya stared sharply at Dravin for a long moment before she started to play with her fingers on her watch.

Ding!

Ding!

Ding!

[Whoa… Congratulations, Host! I'm so proud of you. Did you miss me?]
