Chapter 16 - Candy for You

"What's he doing?" Wanda asked her brother softly, watching Li Qingyuan squatting in front of the missile.

They were already ten years old. Perhaps for flowers grown in a greenhouse, ten was still an innocent age, but for children living in Sokovia, a small, turbulent Eastern European country, ten was practically half an adult.

Especially for the siblings who had just experienced the tragic death of their parents, their minds had matured rapidly.

"He seems to be taking apart the missile?" Pietro said uncertainly.

As a mischievous kid, Pietro usually enjoyed taking things apart, but it was generally limited to things like alarm clocks. He definitely wouldn't dare to touch a missile.

After all, he was just a little mischievous, not suicidal!

"It's going to explode!" Wanda's big eyes were filled with tears; she didn't want to be blown up without knowing why.

"How about we run first?" Pietro suggested, being extremely unloyal.

He and Wanda were only acquaintances with Li Qingyuan. The relationship between their parents was also just so-so. Since the other party wanted to court death, there was no way they would stay and die with him.

"But we can't get out!" Wanda pointed at Li Qingyuan, who was squatting in front of the missile, fiddling with something, and then pointed at the destroyed gate.

The doorway was completely buried by rubble. As for jumping out the window?

Do you think two ten-year-old kids could survive a jump from the third floor?

Not to mention that gunfire and artillery were still raging outside, and no one knew what was going on.

"We can jump to the second floor first and find a corner to hide in," Pietro said, pointing to the large hole in the middle of the living room.

The power of this type of small missile wasn't actually that great. In an open area, the killing radius would probably be about twenty meters. In a building like this, the power was even more compressed to individual floors.

The first missile had exploded in the second-floor living room, yet the siblings on the third floor were unharmed. While the protagonist's aura played a part, the missile's power was also a key factor.

After all, the missiles manufactured by Stark Industries were designed to destroy urban centers, so their power had to be compressed to a manageable level.

Otherwise, the entire city would be in ruins after a battle, making occupation pointless.

"Second floor?" Wanda's eyes were filled with confusion. It was then she remembered that her parents were still, presumably, on the second floor.

"Pietro, Mom, Dad!" Wanda couldn't hold back her tears at the thought.

"Don't cry, Wanda!" Pietro was immediately alarmed to see his sister start crying again.

Heaven only knew what Jack Ma was up to. If his sister's crying affected his actions, they were finished.

But facing his tearful sister, Pietro felt somewhat at a loss.

"What's wrong?" Li Qingyuan stood up and walked over to Wanda, asking.

"You fixed the missile?" Pietro raised his head in surprise. He saw that the missile, which had been flashing, had lost its luster. The front end was opened, revealing a pile of mechanical components that he couldn't understand at all.

"What do you mean, fixed? I broke it. Now, even if you throw this thing down, it won't explode." Li Qingyuan casually played with two small parts. It was worthy of being a missile produced by Iron Man; the quality was guaranteed.

If he had such a ready-made material in the last story world, the task would have been too easy to complete!

But if he didn't have the skills gifted by the system, even if the missile was in front of him, he wouldn't be able to handle it.

"Jack-gege, you can actually disassemble missiles?" Pietro looked at Li Qingyuan with stars in his eyes, his small eyes full of admiration.

In the hearts of boys, those who can shoot are masters, and those who can disassemble missiles are even supreme masters!

For a moment, Pietro even forgot about his parents' recent deaths and began to revolve around the disassembled missile with shining eyes.

"Jack-gege, it really won't explode if I touch it now?" Pietro wanted to reach out and touch the weapon of war, but he was a little worried.

"It's fine, you could throw it in the fire and it wouldn't be a problem!" Li Qingyuan waved his hand dismissively. Modern instruments were incredibly precise. Even though the missile was over a meter long, the actual explosive components made up less than one percent of its volume.

Stark Industries was really a bunch of swindlers!

"Waaah…waaah…"

Wanda was still sobbing, constantly. Girls were always more sensitive than boys. She was still overwhelmed by the grief of losing her parents and couldn't calm down.

"Wanda, be good, don't cry. Brother will give you candy!" Honestly, facing a crying little girl, Li Qingyuan didn't know what to do. He could only take a lollipop out of his pocket and coax her with it.

"Waaah waah waah…"

As a result, Wanda cried even louder!

"I said, will you please stop crying?" If it were Pietro, that guy, being this annoying, Li Qingyuan would have guaranteed he'd already punched him to teach him how to behave. But it was Wanda who was crying in front of him, and this really left him at a loss.

Couldn't just grab Wanda and give her a beating!

"Jack-gege, Wanda won't eat that mint-flavored lollipop you have." Pietro suddenly popped up from somewhere, snatched the lollipop from Li Qingyuan's hand, quickly unwrapped it, and stuffed it into his mouth.

"Pietro—" Even while crying, Wanda still had time to glare at Pietro, it seemed her mood had improved quite a bit.

"How about this one? Banana flavored!" Fortunately, he'd grabbed a handful of candy before coming over, so Li Qingyuan quickly pulled out another lollipop and asked.

"Waa… slurp… waa…"

Wanda was crying and licking the lollipop at the same time, making it impossible to understand how she could do both.

But fortunately, the sound of her crying finally quieted down.

"You two rest in the room first, and you'll have to squeeze together tonight!" Listening to the gunshots still roaring outside, he didn't know if they'd be finished by tonight.

Now, the entire city is unsafe; staying in the room is the best choice.

Wanda and Pietro both nodded silently, the two children having matured a lot in an instant.

If some overly kind and overly empathetic people were here, they'd certainly feel heartache seeing these two ten-year-olds acting so maturely. However, for a heartless person like Li Qingyuan, if these two kids were constantly crying and making a fuss, he'd have to consider whether he should just abandon them!

Of course, the Scarlet Witch of the future is admirable and great, but that's years from now!

To sacrifice his own pleasant life for a potential investment, it's hard to say whether this deal is a profit or a loss.
